I want to share a concept with you and your audience during your build process. The concept is 'steerer bearing pre-load'.... If you go to the fork installation section of your video, I would advise the following sequence: But first, a couple of things: 1. Always best to press bearing cups into the steerer headtube of the frame versus pound them in with a hammer. This is because the bearing races you are pounding into the frame can distort with hammer blows which compromises the interface aka geometric agreement between the bearing and the bearing cup(s). You can you use a gigantic C-clamp and a piece of 1" thick wood. Press one bearing cup into the head tube at a tim:. 2. Always apply a thick automotive grease or equivalent to the bearings prior to assembly. OK, this is the important part. Back to tightening sequence: The spacers on your headset are NOT just cosmetic. They serve a purpose. What you always want for stability and to mitigate damage to your bearings while out riding is...a concept called Brinelling...look it up....is have the bearing balls tightly against the bearing cup races to reduce vibration and damage to the bearings over bumps in the roads which put small dents in the hard balls over time due to space between bearing balls and bearing cups. For this bike build, the way to accomplish long bearing life is.... 1. Install everything except handlebar without tightening anything. 2. before you tighten the top 'tree' to your fork tubes, you tighten the skinny top screw which presses down on the steerer cap and compresses the top tree through the spacers and tightly sandwiches the top and bottom bearings between the two fork trees. 3. Now you tighten the top tree bolts which firmly attach the top tree to the two fork tubes. 4. Lastly, align the stem with the fork tubes which still under preload..knock it sideways with your hand...and tighten the stem clamp bolts. That's it. Now you have preload between the bearings and their mating bearing cups so when you go over bumps which you do every minute of every ride, the bearings won't Brinell and be ruined. But further, this is important, your bike will track much more steadily because the front end is tight...without any lash between bearings and bearing cups which promotes front end wobble due to road disturbances because without preload the front fork attachment to the frame of the bike is not solid. Hope above helps. You are a brilliant young man with a generous heart to share your good work with us. With your aptitude, consider going to engineering school if you love to build cool machines like this and learn about the relationships including why designs are created as they are. Thank you for your step-by-step video. Invaluable to anybody like me and others who has interest in building a very fast e-bike. Ride safe and have a blast!

You chose the same brake discs as mine and they are very good, they are also floating discs which prevent them from deforming when they heat up too much, that's what I had on my big cubes when I was riding a motorcycle, I did for more than 16 years, big unbridled cube...

I was under the impression that the spot where you routed your brake line is where the controller usually goes on these frames, That's why there wasn't a hole for the phase wires. That said, also a nice option to be able to put it inside the frame as well if you don't want that box hanging off the front. I'd probably put the charger in the spot your controller is in, and just route an ATX female adapter to the outside (or some extra circuitry and an SAE J1772 female socket as well so I can charge at public stations).

You made one mistake when installing the fork. After sliding the fork through and adding the spacers on the steering tube, DON'T tighten the stem all the way, you want to torque down the cap to the star nut first. Once that's torqued, there's the right preload on your steering and you can then straighten the stem/bars and finish tightening them down. You basically want it to be able to slide around a little until the cap is torqued down.

@boxlid214
@boxlid214 2 жыл бұрын
@@blakey271able it's the correct way, yessir. It ensures you have the proper load on the bearings. You pick the bike up and lean it slightly towards the front end. Sway it side to side gently, and there should be just enough load on your headset so that the wheel turns freely and doesn't bind at any point in the rotation. You'll have awesome steering no-handed riding too if it's correct. Too loose and you'll feel the rattle. Too tight and you won't be able to ride no-handed very well at all.

I have a few questions on the build. 1: did you simply order a front tire in the same size? or did you do something to match them up? 2: does the battery you've purchased have the ability for the regenerative braking and did you have any problems with that? 3: (most important) does the torque/ power handle off-roading well? I want to do a build for going on trails through the mountains near me. many have uphill sections or rough rocky area's I'd like to make sure if I build an adventure bike that it can actually handle the load without burning up the motor. 4:I am 6ft 195lbs, would that frame and bike height feel comfortable to someone of similar stature? I've found many bikes are not the most comfortable to people over 5,11. thank you.
@ENDOPRYSMyt
@ENDOPRYSMyt 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I ordered the front tire to be the same size. The idea for this bike was for it to be more of a road bike. Also the battery does get recharged by regenerative breaking I know that for sure because I use hardly any power when on a downhill trek. For an adventure bike I would probably go with a qs 205 motor or smaller to save on weight. There aren’t to many downsides to going with a smaller motor. And you would probably want the motor to have at least 4-5 t winding which means it’s geared towards lower speed faster acceleration which is recommended for trail riding. Another thing that helps is to have a smaller when in the rear maybe by about an inch or 2 to maximize torque. Also as someone who is over 511 it’s a great fin in my opinion.
@BradenLeviJudd
@BradenLeviJudd 2 жыл бұрын
@@ENDOPRYSMyt I've come across people talking about how with doing off-road on an e-bike overheating can be an issue, would a qs 205 motor have problems with that? because I would be putting it under heavy load if I need to throttle harder when climbing some area's. It is very hard to find people who talk about part specific details such as yourself. Most of what I come across is "the surron is great or I upgraded this on it" Or "mid drive kits are better power and torque for stuff like climbing without overheating" then the problem I run in to is I can't find any info on what to buy for my specific motives. Everyone tells me something different. I like the Idea of the qs-205 my only worry would be if I use it on a rough trail or a steep uphill if it would start to overheat under the load?

Hey I have an ebike and the problem is that the rear wheel works perfectly in the air, but if I ride it on the road, it turns off after 200-300meter .

Is the front wheel included in the motor kit? im considering building one and also curious about the sizing of the wheels, what are the size of the dropouts on the wheel?

people can easily copy exactly what others have done but what they really need is an explanation of why each component does what it does then they can trouble shoot and fix a problem. plug and play means nothing, they'll have no clue

you know as a fellow builder that does know and understand this stuff, you taught them nothing, lol now can they just copy what you did? maybe but they'll still be clueless you have to break it all the way down

Have you ridden it since you put the new battery connector on it? If so, I imagine it performs better.

What company or brand name did you order the frame? Also, I noticed you have a moto style seat. Did you have to modify the frame for that? Most frames look like they have a setup for a regular bicycle seat post. Thanks for your help and thanks for the video post!

I just got the most affordable frame I could. It comes with holes for the Moto seat so you just screw it into the frame.

I'm guessing in another 3 years we'll be able to build a 30KW mid-drive with a 96V 80ah battery.

Check out HI Powered Cycles novelty electric bike called the Typhoon Pro. 26x4 rear tire 27.5 in front. It uses a Hub drive but placed in the bottom bracket as it is a mid drive bike. I think it is the very best you can buy.
