If death bodies are legally donated, nothing special to see here. Donating death bodies to temples is not a news in 🇱🇰🇱🇰 also. But it is not common due to low demand. Death bodies are accepted only by a fraction of temples, which practice certain forms of meditation. However 40+ bodies in a single temple is excessive, which itself is against a basic principle of Buddhism. 😬🤔

M a Buddhist, studied Buddhism and death meditation. We believe in next life, don't know exactly where to be reborn after death because of karma. Death meditation reminds us that we are subjected to die and uncertainty of our this n future life, so that we can prepare for a better future. In that case, if you have guts, you can meditate at cemetery (mostly at night because of less distrub), not in temples with death body. 🙏 As for 600 crocodiles, m curious too to know how they are being feed.

This 'drama', coming from an Indian reporter was extremely laughable. This kind of meditation has been in INDIA (and south and east Asia) for atleast 2000+ years. In contrast to gospel based blind faith religions, these meditations seek to understand life, death, body and mind, leading to epiphanies. Whether they are successful or not, I have no clue, just that these practices has been there for a long long time. Nor is it witchcraft or sorcery related. there ae other meditation sanctuaries in jungle which follow this practice. This particular incident may be due to these practices are inconsistent with now legal requirements of keeping remains and disposing of those OR a suspicion of foul play, which is to be uncovered by the police.

This is indeed Buddhism. This is a form of meditation approved by Buddha & is practiced in many Buddhist countries. But this is a very rare form of meditation due to practicalities & the person who meditate should have strong mind to do so. Original buddhist teaching asks monks to contemplate death, but i have never heard of temples hoarding dead bodies. monks are expected to pay attention to death that happens around them, i think...to understand the ephemeral nature of human body and life...There was a beautiful courtesan in buddha's time (who was probably a lay follower). many young monks were secretly obsessed with her beauty, and could not get over it. and buddha could see that. when the lady died unexpectedly, buddha requested the king to delay her cremation by a few days. then he took those monks to see her body, before cremation... he wanted them to understand about the ephemeral nature of the body......But there is no tradition of hoarding bodies in theravada temples, in this manner

It is Samadhi Meditation which was practiced from hundreds of years. In India we have Samadhi mandir of many gurus. Some entered Samadhi state while alive. It is leaving human body by choice but it is not a suicide. There is also a church in Goa where body of priest is there from hundreds yesrs. Yes it doesnt smell of deadbodies. If the bodies were donated, and legally obtained, the government and public should have no say in it. Just leave the practices alone as long as they are not harming anyone.
