Thank you for sharing all of those information. I’ve been trying to go through and absorb as much of this as I possibly can. I hunted as a young teen with my dad and got back into the sport a few years ago. I harvested my first deer with a compound and became instantly hooked! I’m hoping to use as much of your knowledge and hopefully harvest a good Buck with archery if the Lord is willing Sir. God speed and thank you for what you’re doing.

Fully agree-mature bucks in pressured areas require attention to detail! I also appreciate how you clarified that anything can happen, but you hunt based on overall/percentage data of mature buck behavior during the hunting season. Spot on. Too many times we hear hunters say “deer always ___.” If there’s anything I’ve learned as a hunter and a wildlife biologist working primarily with deer, it’s that the “always” ideology needs to die within hunting circles. Thanks, John for another great video.

I started using scent lock twi years ago. Two years ago I started out not being disciplined. I got busted. I got disciplined I never got busted and and got a nice 10 point. I wore my hunting clothes and drug my buck out around a quarter mile sweaty smelly and went back out. I was trying to get a bonus doe. Got busted by 1 1/2 year old deer. The flowing season kept disciplined never got busted once, the buck I ended up shooting I had him under me down wind didn't shoot him decided to shoot him later in the season. Your regiment pays off. Thanks for your knowledge.

DONT USE BIG YELLOW NO TRESPASSING SIGNS LOL I own a small 10 acre partial behind my house that is used as a travel route between bedding and food. I have lived here for 35 years, and deer has used my 10 acres every morning and afternoon. Last year a new neighbor down the road started using my property as a short cut to get to a crop field that was being used as a food source. I asked him not to come onto my property during deer season, but his son continued doing it. I put up big yellow no trespassing signs and I believe the deer were afraid of signs more than the neighbors walking through the property. At first, I got pictures of the deer looking directly at the signs as they walked around the back side of the tree but now im not getting pictures at all. I have most of the signs 8 foot high, but the deer still spotted them. First time in YEARS I haven't had deer using my property for travel. Im going to remove most of the signs next weekend out of desperation and hope they start using the property again.

When's the last time you held a tree stand in your hands cuz they make tree stands nowadays that are probably the equivalent of your entire setup the lightest stand is 5.8 lb
@johneberhart40622 жыл бұрын
I don't use a platform for saddle hunting and my saddle weighs less than 2 pounds and fits in my pack. I can also hunt trees with a saddle that you CAN'T put tree stands in. Also I can shoot 360 on big trees and you can't do that with a stand. Also stands have a cumbersome frame which is not conducive for bucking brush with entries and in most places I hunt, if I leave stands in trees, they get stolen. The lightweight aluminum stands you speak of are too expensive to leave in trees. I've been a sales rep in the hunting industry for over 30 years and see tree stands on store poles all the time all year long on my store visits, so yes, I'm aware of what is on the market. Way too many advantages of a saddle over any stand. I could go on with advantages, but that's enough. I am NOT a fan of using a platform only for saddle hunting and I totally AGREE with you that if a saddle hunter uses only a platform to stand on with no steps to move around the tree on, they have no advantage over a tree stand hunter as they have to take the platform with them on each hunt and can't shoot to the other side of a large tree. Many saddle hunters do not know how to hunt from a saddle, that is also a FACT that I hate to mention.

Hey John we just had opener yesterday I have lost my target animal probably about a 140” 3 year old yesterday I put in an all day hunt sat back at a distance in the morning on a field edge where he frequents have not seen him in a while there but I figure just because I don’t have him on camera doesn’t mean he’s not there so later in the morning when I know he was bedded I decided to slip around and see if I could find any fresh sign around an area I think is bedding I found a small scrape and the area wreaked of deer I also bumped one didn’t know what it was saw it for a second it was so thick whatever it was didn’t smell me I think it was just noise that jumped the animal. But past all the info I found the scrape and I want to hunt it a close friend of mine is telling me that the buck I’m after probably didn’t make it but it’s great bedding and I think it’s a territorial scrape I’m not going back till Friday but I finished out my sit in a different area to leave that area be come Friday I have great wind and great temps for the area of the scrape I’m wondering should I leave it be or should I be aggressive and get in there mind you I was walked in on by guys doing an opening day push so the area has always been pushed it’s extremely pressured was kind of annoying but name of the game I guess but this early in the season fresh scrape in a bedding area that’s loaded with historical rubs and rubs from last year. Just wondering what your thoughts are.

@MexicanMovie2 жыл бұрын
@@BornAgainOutdoorsman I have all the info John sent me regarding scent control, and i believe he mentions that you will never be "100 percent" scent free but you do everything you can to get as close as possible. Last year was my first year trying all out scent control, and I had a few instances where it made a believer out of me that it can put the odds in your favor. In addition i saw more regular deer last year than I ever have, and I only have public land to hunt, and we can't prep trees, cut limbs or anything on Illinois public. I was working in my front yard yesterday and had periods where the wind was blowing stinky animal poop smell right up my nose, then would shift and be gone 5 minutes and then right back. Even if you hunt the wind you need to be as free as possible of scent just in case one of several possible scenarios play out that could end your hunt. And yeah, i agree John has it figured out, and I'd say he is the hardest working bowhunter I've ever seen. I'm hoping for at least another 20 years of Eberhart content !!!!

I practice from the roof of my house and have a video on that so my sight is sighted in for heights. I do aim a bit different from 25 feet and higher and it's pretty rare when I get 30 feet. Sometimes I aim for the liver instead of the lungs because from some angles, all I would hit is a single lung and that is NOT good. A liver hit deer will always die, just have to give it a few hours.
