Andy, the "73 Questions with _____" is the best trend you could have adopted from Vogue! It's my very 1st time coming across your channel and I subscribed to it off of this one video, and I don't usually do that for YT channels. This series is great because I've never seen a channel engage with medical/aspiring medical professionals like this, and it's helpful to people like me who are interested in having a career in the medical field. Congrats on recently reaching (and surpassing) a 10k subscriber count, and I really appreciate this type of content, (future) Dr.Nguyen!

Hi, could you pls tell me about the lifestyle? I’m a premed and I really really love everything about neurology and it seriously is a strong passion and motivator in my life. Neurofibromatosis patient here! I've lived with this condition my whole life, but was diagnosed 30 years ago at age at 8. In all that time I've had some scares but never staid overnight in a hospital. 2 months ago I had a severe abdominal pain attack. I was convinced it was appendicitis. But turns out, I suffered a thoracic aneurysm due to an unknown tumor pressing aganist the artery between the T11 and T12 regions of my spine/ribs. I had no warning, and felt fine all week/day. Withing an hour I had bleed out just over 3 liters - almost all my blood. I'm a pretty small-averaged size female, so this was almost all of my blood. I was receiving transfusions but it took the team hours to figure out what was going on...one critical transport and 2 CTs, one emergency surgery and a few hours later, we learned the importance of lesion location. I am in recovery now, but it's been a long journey in just two months. Parts of my condition I thought I'd conquered, escaped or managed well are suddenly new and daunting, but I'm so grateful to the medical team that treated me and were able to identify what was happening quickly. I wouldn't be here without them.

On tough weeks like that (e.g. when on-call) I think most would outsource (e.g. hire housekeepers, have take-aways/pre-prepped food, use laundry services, childcare etc.). This is tough during residency where you may not have the finances to support outsourcing - often your domestic/social life is put on the back burner until you return back to the 70hr weeks. Important to consider in terms of overall life planning!
