I have been diagnosed with dementia and it’s a hard season of life for me so I do know what I’m talking about. This person had hoarding issues along with the dementia . I too am in my mid seventies. My home is in a very normal condition, very clean. Tasks take me longer these days but they get done. I lose things and I find things because of my dementia but My home is clean. I tell you this to help you understand not all dementia people live anywhere close to the conditions in this video. I pray they received the assistance they need.

My mother passed away from Dementia, Alzheimers disease. These beautiful people should NEVER live alone! This sweet lady needs a 24 hour nurse that specializes in Dementia and the torment it causes. It's amazing how people can criticize you on how you cleaned when they have no idea how to even clean something like that in that condition. When dirt builds up on walls ,furnitures and floor for that amount of time it most of the time damages it. Even after you clean sometime it can still look a little dirty all because it's just damage. Just so you know you did a awesome job on cleaning the 74 year old woman's apartment. Thank you so much for having a heart to even clean it. Agree 100 percent, from where it was to where it is is short of a miracle with not many days to do. It breaks our hearts that this woman did not get help sooner. I hope she is getting good care and help now. This is heartbreaking. Everyone, check on your elderly neighbors and have a couple of family members number to call.

The very end stage of dementia looks similar person to person, but that is all. The other stages of dementia vary person to person, depending on the BRAIN REGIONS BEING AFFECTED. Dementia is a neurological deterioration. To say you know what it is and isn't, shows you don't know what it is. Symptoms vary. Please have compassion for what you do not understand.

I came over from migwest magic cleaning. I especially appreciate this particular cleanup video because my dad, one aunt, & two cousins have had alzheimers type dementia. Alzheimers makes people do crazy things they never would have done before the illness. My heart is moved at your compassion for this lady. I am shaken that the building owner didnt completely gut the place with new dry wall, appliances, subfloors, all fixtures. Im shook that this in an apartment building and that got this bad before she was evicted.

From working in property rental, building owners & landlords never want spend money in my experience. They often let their insurance lapse too, so any damage cost isn't covered.

They will have to. But first needs to be clean so that exterminator can come in and then maintenance. As far as eviction... Doubtful. Most won't as long as you pay your rent. If they had been checking in her she probably would have been evicted. As it is, she got help and will need follow up therapy and care. She will likely be moved to a nursing home at some point. Poor woman. I feel so bad for her!😭🙏

I was thinking the same thought. I'm sure there was a horrible odor emanating from that apt, probably long before it got to this point. And unless she has no family to speak of, and no other tenants lived in the building, I'm inclined to think that she was "forgotten about. Ms.Barbie, you have the heart of an Angel, and the stamina of a "SPARTAN", which is my way of saying that I don't know how you can stand the bugs. I was watching this on my tablet, and for the life of me, I kept seeing bugs on the top half of my screen and I almost threw my new tablet. A couple of things really stood out on this video for me. One was the ironing board being completely free of trash and looked like it was being used. Just made me laugh. The other was the chair with the plastic cover on it. Just pull off the cover and it’s as good as new. Also,there needs to be an exterminator to help the neighbors. Those cockroaches are all going to be looking for new homes. 😢 Really great job Barbie!! I’m sure the whole building was happy you helped this lady.

Miami has a lot of roach problems, but once you get rid of the things in the home, such as appliances, trash, and open pet food,where they can hide and feed, and clean everything the extermination companies are good at getting rid of the ones hiding in walls and outlets in apartment buildings and condos.

This was a job for a team of people. Edit: Spray all around the door frame and place a tarp which you have sprayed with roach spray in the hall where you can stack the trash bags so as not to contaminate the whole building any more than you can prevent. I’ve had to do this with some clients.

You did a WONDERFUL, AMAZING JOB!!!! This transformation is incredible. This place will never look brand new. Chances are it will need to be gutted to the studs sprayed for bugs and completely rebuilt for it to ever replace all the damage years of trash and bugs have done. What you were able to do in just a few days though is absolutely incredible and no small undertaking. 🙌🏻 ❤ You should be so proud of this one! Way to go Barbie! Also love the steamer. It is so satisfying to watch. I do believe you can get different attachments for those to do larger areas, grout etc. Not sure if the brand you have offers them or not but may help in the future if you have to do floors or walls. ❤❤

Thank you Barbie for being the one that stepped up to help this lady. I saw an emergency pull string in the bathroom, which means this is at least a senior apartment or assisted living apartment complex. It is beyond understanding. There is no way she was getting weekly or even biweekly nursing or home health aide care, as they wouldn't have been able to access the inside of that apartment. And if they were truly doing home care visits they would have been required to call adult protective services way before it got to this point. They are mandated reporters. All the internal workings of the fridge, stove, tv's would still be infested with roaches. Even the walls would have been infested as they entered through the outlets. And those poor neighbors. They probably had them coming into their apartments as well. Especially during the clean out. Those millions of roaches had to go somewhere. And i cringed to see the piles of garage bags in the common area there. Those roaches were racing to anyplace they could. I hope the apartment manager provides extermination services for the whole building, as it will definitely be necessary. You did an amazing job, even though it is just the first step in this intervention. I hope she has more angels, like you, show up for her.

There is a special place in heaven for you. My Aunt Jean had terrible dementia. She was a wonderful woman. She worked hard all of her life. She and my Uncle Leonard were very special to me. I would go to their house and spend weekends with them. To see her decline so quickly was heartbreaking to watch. So, you should be very proud of yourself. When I was a child our home was literally spotless. Then both my parents got dementia. My sister and I lived quite a long way away from them. I do not drive. My sister went to visit and was so shocked by the state of the place. We moved them into a beautiful retirement home where they had a housekeeper, a care aid and nice meals in a shared dining room. They were much happier and they were safe. It makes me so sad to see people living in these conditions through no fault of their own. You did an amazing job on the place. It is now ready for the exterminator and to be completely renovated. Thank you so much for caring about these vulnerable people.

There is a woman in my apartment building with dementia, who smoked inside and ended up starting a fire. Everyone was okay, luckily, but everyone had some damage from the incident. After insurance restored her apartment she moved back in with no increase in outside care 😱

You are a God send. So grateful for you and your calling. When people get sick mentally n physically n cant even get out of bed or have anyone help in yrs then this is what happens. The mental stress for the poor lady is unimageable having no choice but live in it. Thank God for you and not making the people feel more degraded n ashamed than they already are ❤ much love

I'm turning 72 in few days and have had breast and lymph nodes Cancer for four years undergoing treatments. Now I have colon c ancer but I can't imagine living like that. Everyday I try and do a few things to clean. I even hired cleaning lady last month and worked with her all day cleaning

I love how you handle negative comments. This was a massive undertaking and you did an amazing job! Negative people are never satisfied. You were determined to better this person’s living condition and you did tremendously. I would like to suggest that you get a handheld pump sprayer for your cleaning solutions. Much faster than a squeeze sprayer especially for big jobs like this. Keep doing what you are doing. God bless you!

There is a product called Odoban that removes smoke smell from any surface. You can spray it wherever you need to clean as well as add to your laundry to get smoke out of your fabrics. I quit smoking for six months now by buying nicotine lozenges instead. I promise you don't have to live in shame anymore ! Hope this helps!

You were quite right in throwing almost everything out; it was contaminated with rat and mice urine and faeces as well as cockroaches. Charity shops are overflowing with cheap furniture and household items. That’s for someone else to organise- you have done more than enough.
