Cold calls are what's needed to build a clientele base in sales. If you aren't calling, you aren't closing. I highly respect the decision to let him go. How do you cold call for a watch? That is the most interesting thing I have heard in a long while. You cold call if you think a company has a problem and you have the solution for them. You follow up leads if you have a niche product for sale (which watches are). If you want to get new customers in you invite them to events, parties, dinners and whatnot. But cold calling a person and saying; hey I know nothing about you but would you like to buy this 30k watch from me makes absolutely zero sense.

@@stef1833 Totally agree, and to call someone with a solution if you think someone has a specific problem you can solve that’s in my head is not really cold calling, at least not if you genuinely think that what you can offer is something the customer really can use, and is genuinely better than what at least 90% of the competition can offer. Of course this is not the case in 99.99% of what we generally define as cold calling. Meaning that 100% of times when people start the conversation with “how are you today” I know the outcome; that I will put the phone down half way through one of their opening introductions… I can’t for the life of me understand why it’s still legal to do this. To call hundreds and hundreds of people, wasting their time and money only to get a sale if they suddenly get through to that one gullible person or “half way into Alzheimer’s” condition.
