Hold the box of engine oil sideways. As you start to tip the box, keep the spout slightly higher. You'll notice the glug glug of the fluid doesn't happen. Nice easy pour. Very controlled. 👍

Another wild tip, if you don’t have a funnel…remove the dipstick and put it in the oil tube and pour the oil onto the dipstick vertically. The oil will travel along the dipstick like water on a rain chain…it’s pretty remarkable. Tends to work best on cars where oil goes in straight down thru the valve cover as it’s easier to have the dipstick vertical in the middle of the hole.

I had a different Toyota dealership perform the last free/complimentary oil change. When I performed the next oil change, I discovered: - they over tightened the oil filter housing - they over tightened the drain plug - They cross threaded 4 skid plate bolts. Two of them broke when I tried removing them. - I dont usually remove the "secondary" oil filter cap...the little metal cap that allows you to drain oil out of the filter housing so it does not make such a mess when you remove the actual filter housing. So it was two or three oil changes later when I discovered that the dealership didnt re0lace the gaslet for the "secondary" oil filter cap. Do your own maintenance and make sure you know how to do it properly.

Please wear safety glasses when underneath vehicles to avoid rust/dirt particles flaking off and getting into your eyes. You can buy a Toyota specific funnel that has a rubber gasket and screws into the oil fill hole. That makes it super easy to fill without spilling a drop.

@marvinmurakami88282 ай бұрын
The reason people remove the top bolt first is to make sure it will come off and is not frozen stuck. It'd be a pain if you drain the fluid first and then find out not being able to remove the top bolt.

The Tacomas Maintenance book asks for 6.2 qts, I see you just added 6qts, would not adding the .2qts do anything bad to engine?
@august95687 ай бұрын
Depends on what your oil measures to on the dip stick when you're done, and after you run it for a bit. naturally there's going to be residual oil still throughout the engine, every ounce isn't going to drain out. In this case that's just under 1/4 of a quart that isn't put in. So as long as it's between your low and high marks on the dipstick you're golden, I like to keep mine in the middle or slightly closer to the high mark.

Too much torque for the oil filter housing. 1/2 drive is over kill. 3/8 should be used.
@august95687 ай бұрын
There's a plate on the bottom of the oil canister which is removed to drain the oil before unscrewing it to replace the filter. The key on that plate is a 1/2 in drive, so its necessary for that step. Otherwise, there's a torque spec for tightening the canister and drain plugs, and Chloe follows all the manufacturer recommended torque specs. She's not doing anything here that isn't by the book.
@derpasaurusrex83358 ай бұрын
Switch how you fill the oil. Make sure the filler is on top of the box and not at the bottom as to not have air bubbles in the oil and spill.

one more thing cuz everyone has mentioned the pouring but to avoid using the tool to install your oil filter. Tightening it by hand as hard as you can will be enough. If you can't reach it at least screw on the filter without the ratchet wrench first till it's tight and give it about 3/8 of a turn or less to snug it in.
