I spoke to a Toyota technician and recommended this for maintenance. TACOMA MAINTENANCE Transmission fluid - every 60k miles or 6yrs Coolant flush - every 50k miles Differential and transfer case - every 30k mi Brake fluid- every 3-5 years Power steering fluid - 50-70k miles Spark plugs - 60k miles (oem plugs strongly recommend)

You must spoke to a rookie, transmission fluid is lifetime but doesn’t hurt to service, coolant 100k miles, brake fluid 2 years or 30k miles.

Don’t forget to lubricate your propeller shaft every 1-2 years. Or around 15-30K miles. And more often if you tow. Most dealers miss that important piece of maintenance, and a lot of service advisors don’t even know what a propellor shaft is.

Simple and to the point,Thanks I forgot all about the crush washer, good looking Tacoma. I just had my Tacoma Inspected at the dealership, they wanted $299 for a new serpentine belt,$350 for new plugs, $299 for rear and front diff change and heres the the topper, I tried to get my spare tire down but its locked up,rusted so i asked if they could take a look at it and give me a price well they charge 1 hour at $150 ,so all this work would be over 1 grand, to do it yourself maybe $150. These videos have saved me so much money, thanks Chloe

Great video! Thank you. Not sure if you have one mentioning to check the rear diff vent valve before? Good to make sure it's not full of dirt or seized while your underneath. It causes the axel seals to leak from to much pressure built up and the full plug will be really hard to get out. It's around $20.00 CND very easy to change and could save alot in the long run.

Great video Chloe, couple of tips for you and your viewers... the crush washers you get comes in a kit, steel crush washers go on the rear dif. Drain & fill plugs. The front dif. Takes a steel crush washer on the fill plug and a copper crush washer goes on the drain plug. If your also changing the transfer case oil, it will use aluminum crush washers on the drain & fill plugs. Also I use a pump up style fluid transfer pump made by "Motive products power fill transfer fluids" I bought off Amazon with a ball valve shut off I added. Pour the recommended amount of oil in the tank, pump it up and turn on the ball valve, no mess no fuse. Keep up the great videos! 👍

I still don’t know much about when it comes tacomas but all the videos that you made so far, are they tied to just a specific version of a Tacoma, like just your 2019 TRD off road, or can anything you’ve shown so far be done across all other (gen3 I think?) tacomas? Also I hope this doesn’t sound rude but I never really know which Tacoma you’re working since you have a 2019 and a 2020 so I’m always confused which ones gets worked on so if you can say which one it is, that would be great 🥲😅

Appreciate the videos... DIY is a necessity in my area for my Tacoma unfortunately... First service at 5k miles went to my local Toyota dealer for an oil change (Pauly Toyota in Crystal Lake IL in case you're in the area), came back with a leaky oil filter housing since they didn't seem to seat the o-ring properly, scratched 2 of my wheels by apparently laying them face down, soaked my alternator with oil that they apparently splashed somehow when filling, and didn't properly torque my lug nuts! Both passenger side wheels had a couple nuts that were free spinning when I got home! All for a simple oil change and tire rotation. So yeah, I certainly won't be letting them touch my diff, who knows what they'll jack up.

The toyota service center i go to their price cost sheet states 268.71 canadian for the 4wd service. I asked what this entails and its replacing front and rear diffs and transfercase. Honestly for 268 ill just get them to do it. Not that i dont like working on my truck but the effort to get in and under the truck and doing it out in the cold and costing even if slightly more than if i would do it, id rather just pay someone else to do it. Maybe if it really did cost 250 canadian for each diff then id do it myself...268 plus tax for all 3 is just no brainer.

Make sure to use Diff-lock compatible fluid. When loosening the bolt, use one hand to press and hold the 6-sided box socket tightly to the bolt. Since the bolt is so thin, if you round off the edges, removing especially the bottom bolt is tricky. Proper torque is OK, but be careful when tightening the Transfercase bolts. It's an aluminum casing and can crack! Just hand tight it. I deal with Toyota 4x4's since 1990 and never used a torque wrench to tighten diff/transfer bolts.

Good morning young lady, I'm John Chan the fisherman. Just a tad older than you. Now 54 years old and getting a lot wiser. Highly educated but a car mechanic. I watch KZbin and change my own fluids. Such as engine oil, transmission fluid, differiental oil, steering fluid, last but not least the brake fluid. This fluid is very important on cars older than 5 years old. At this moment I own 7 batteries, yes I conduct batteries mantainace on them adding distilled water every few months. Try to save money on batteries. The boat has two batteries, you can fill in the blank. Like your video, oh yeah I've been doing my own fluid for 3 years since all my kids moved out to college. Thanks

What gear oil for a 19 with a manual transmission. I heard don’t use GL-5 but GL-4 only? most brands say they are good for both. Another KZbin tech Chanel said do not use GL-5.

For manual GL4. Redline is a good one

Do you know if you need to remove the cat shield to change the front diff oil? Or is it just the skid plate?

Cat Shield will need to come off for the transmission service only. Front diff and Transfer Case fluids can be changed with the shield in place.

I got the best price on Mobil 1 75W/90 by purchasing a case of twelve quarts. I used this for the rear and front diff: almost six quarts between the two diffs. For the transfer case I used Royal Purple Synchromax Manual Transmission Fluid, a little more than two quarts.

The rear differential only takes 3.1 qts, front diff take 3.4 pints (1.7 qts).
