Night shift heading south with no moon at 4:30am trying to stay alert. This is what its like at night on a typical shift. Pitch black out and just monitoring radar. It can get real boring so the Grateful Dead is always on to keep me up

It reminds me of the days when I was the Engineer on a hydrographic survey boat. The Fleming 78 is around the same size as the boat I was on and navigation at night is interesting. Navigating from one lighthouse to the next by straight lines was the way the Captain did it.

lol, looking at the map upside down tripped me out. I figured out, before that segment finished, that its because your oriented by the way the boat is pointed. but it still tripped me out.

IrieAdventures what is the name of the boat? We just left there and went to Cabo. Then on to main land. Now headed to Costa Rica

Carolina Marine Group The Vessel is named Zen, we are still finishing an extensive refit but the owner plans to head south and do Cabo and PV. Very close to being done, just some carpet and small details left to tidy up before we get to cruising. I'm very excited. I would love to be in touch with you more directly, my email is irieadventures at gmail dot com. I am new to Fleming's and it would be nice to have an experienced resource to bounce things off. I also happen to be a fan of the Grateful Dead too! Safe cruising brother!

Great video and explanation - more please! Are you just ferrying the Fleming? Would love to see more of it working wise - plenty of pretty pics out there but nothing on the practical side. Keep up the good work ;)

Why so black, would assume screens would be bright, and helm area does not have to be blacked out

We have it as dark as possible so we can see what little we can outside. Any minor glare from lights or electronics blurs our night vision. We actually put painters tape over some of the light because we can not get them dark enough. Thanks for the question and hope this helped. Capt. Dave

@@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston Why don't you just have floodlights on? You can use them at sea can't you?
@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston
@CarolinaMarineGroupCharleston 4 жыл бұрын
John Ratcliffe We don’t use floodlights at night because it destroys our night vision by turning on and off spotlights you lose complete visibility when you shut the lights off it’s better to have everything completely dark and keep your night vision. If you use your electronics properly and understand what you’re looking at you don’t need to see anything in front of you.
