Weight loss is a major advantage of the mkII version. Was 550g, now 340g. Carrying a bag of lenses, 200g here and there adds up, and it's much lighter mounted to the body. I would be far more likely to bring along this version than the old.

The aperture ring issue is one that, I would have thought, would be to a great extent ameliorated by familiarity after using the lens for a while.
@jamesrobins18303 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Micael. This was a very well done review that gives potential users much to consider, and a good overall sense of IQ and performance. Having used the lens for a few days (Fujifilm version), we might disagree on where the lens has a real deficit. Personally, while I certainly agree that these clickless manual lenses are frustrating, I very much appreciate that the focus ring is plenty wide and the aperture ring is well out of the way in my use; the damping on both is terrific as is the overall build. So far, I find the lens for any distant work or portrait really not at all attractive... just not looking right. That's OK, though, as having a really good dedicated macro lens at this price point is perfectly fine. I'm more than satisfied.

I honestly really love 7artisans' lens designs. It's like they took inspiration from the very sexy Leica lenses, but there is something uniquely original even on top of that. Just want them to have more and more full frame, ultra fast lenses xD

Thx for the review, Micael! You described it as I expected the lens to be. Pretty good image quality for the price. But it seems that 7artisans is equalizing out their whole Lineup with front facing clickless aperture (35mm f0.95, 55mm f1.4 MK II etc.) Maybe bc. they are focusing more on filmers than on photographers lately? Who knows...

My guess is adding clicks takes a lot of engineering time and also it costs more, which wouldn’t let them keep this lens at the price point they wanted

Other lenses of 7Artisans and TTArtisans also have the aperture ring on the front... And all 7Artisans aperture rings are clickless. I prefer clicked aperture rings too. However accidentally changing the aperture ring also happens to me all the time with the Laowa 65mm APS-C macro lens which I recently bought! Perhaps it is the diffuser which does that. It is really my only complaint about the Laowa 65mm.

I have found a very nice (to my humble knowledge on macro) lens that will give you 2x magnification on a 60mm focus to infinity for way under $150. Is the Oshiro 60mm 2.8 2x macro... I purchased it on Amazon for $138.03 including taxes. I have been testing it and it have giving me good quality pictures. If you have a time to try this one, it might be a good choice for the entry level macro photographer. I do have a Nikon Nikkor 60mm f2.8 1:1 old time macro (which I still love) and most definitely the quality of glass compared to the Oshiro is noticeable, but in Oshiro I could have the 2x and quality is not actually bad at all.👍👍👍

I've played with Macro photografy using DSLR (optical viewfinder) and extension tubes, and because of OVF I could get the focus in eyes of the insect in the majority of the attempts, as lens is at f2.8 while I move camera back and forth and when passing the focus spot the shot is in f8 or f11 and had good results. Now moving to Fuji morrorless for different reasons (not macro) , but still want to keep playing with Macro photography as a hobby, getting a budget macro lens, and stop using extension tubes. With entry level APSC (Fuji X-S10) , will the low resolution of the EVF cause me issues to nail focus ? I'm worried the delay or low resolution will get me lower ratio on good photos than with an old DSLR.... Is 2 million pixels EVF a deal breaker for Macro ?

Should work fine to do macro on any fuji camera. 2 megapixel EVF is plenty if the camera has focus magnification or focus peaking.

With most macro lenses you get a working distance at around 10 cm at 1x magnification. You have to understand that 17.5 cm that you quoted is distance from the sensor, the actual working distance, which is the distance from the front of the lens, is much smaller.
