7mm RM is a beast. Had a model 700 BDL bought new in '86 or'87 can't remember. I learned to hand load that cal. and put around 1,000 rounds through her (yeah I named her Maggie ) and finally got so the accuracy started to suffer at longer ranges so I sold her. I still miss that rifle but hot loading rounds tends to wear a barrel out. I loaded different grn for different purposes and hunted everything from ground hogs to black bear with that rifle. 7mm RM is a go to caliber and I believe it's probably the best all purpose caliber ever made. Love it.

That was entertaining! I've shot, hunted and reloaded both calibers. The 7mm is my favorite, however that 300 can throw a heavier bullet. I recall a hunting partner who used 200 to 220 gr reloads in his 300 mag. The only problem he ever experienced was pass thru. Ever game animal he shot always had a exit hole. Keep up the good work!

Exactly! The test was not a comparison of what each caliber was capable but only what specifically limited cartridge will do. If every cartridges with weight and powder were compared we would see some very differing results with each caliber.

Talking about Winchester and Wal Mart...in my area Power Points are mainly sold. Last winter one Wal Mart cleared out their Deer Season line in 30 30 at 6.00 per box. I stocked up and shot all of them along with Remington Core Lokt 150 gr., and Hornady Leverevolution 160 gr out of my Henry. Winchester Deer Season was the most accurate. They also had Federal Fusion at 9.00 per box. I should have bought that too.

That 150 grain 7mm has a substantially higher sectional density compared to the 150 grain. 308” caliber bullet. Probably why the 7mm beat it out on penetration. If that was a 180 grain .308” caliber bullet, which is comparable in sectional density to the 150 grain 7mm, it would have told a different tale. Cool video nonetheless with typical off the shelf ammo.

I'm an avid reloader and the 150 is heavy for the 270 and light for the 30-06. 150 vs 180 is a better comparison. Looking forward to your next video! Hope its soon!

I have a 7mm rem. mag. Out of a Remington 700 BDL. I've had for 40 years. Still looks new. Few slight dings tho. About 20 years ago I had a muzzle break put on it . And the trigger adjusted to 3.5 lbs. I started to use it out of a tree stand at some crazy angle positions. Man did that take the bite out of that rifle. I swear to God it hits like my 30.30 now. WHAT A DIFFERENCE.... I'll never part with that rifle. It still hits the same hole at 100 yards consistently... Off of a rest of course... if I miss anything... it's me for sure... I've always been One Shot on game with 150 grain reloads. It's with out a DOUBT my favorite piece...

Not really,the 180 gr. .30 cal.bullet sectional density is .270 and the 7mm 175 gr. is .310 SD.The 150 gr.7mm is closer @.266SD,although the 150gr 7mm striking velocity will be higher.
@datasailor8132
@datasailor8132 4 жыл бұрын
rj4590 you can argue both ways. Since momentum is proportional to velocity and energy is proportional to the square of the velocity, a lighter bullet at a given energy at the target will give up its energy more rapidly and do more damage to a more complex target that water jugs. Looks like the 300 Winmag will overpenetrate.
@T-DsGaming

.300 win mag is fun and I have never had a problem knocking down bucks or bulls in one! Using a bonded bullet has a lot less separation issues with the jacket and you get a lot more penetration, especially when you are making longer shots. Anything over a 150 grain bullet thumps hard no matter what it comes from. 7mm rem mag is no slouch either.

I went from a 7mm rem to a 280 Remington. Love the 280 better. For my magnum I shoot a 264 win mag and a 30-338 win mag and love both of them. Depending on game and mood depends on caliber of rifle. I found your video very interesting.

WHO_TEE_WHO Compared to the magnums yes the 280 nope. The 7mm is more readily available and both the 7mm and 300 are good rounds for all walks of game. Keep up with the good videos.

the nubbin buck i shot at angle inlet with a 338win broke its collar bone, pierced its heart, lung and left an exit hole thru the rib cage barely the size of my thumb. it was squirming around on the ground a bunch and i wasnt able to shoot it in the head to put it out of its misery but it stopped moving pretty quick and wasnt more than 10 feet or so from where i shot it. i guess that one hit was about as good a shot as you could ask for.

I have not read all the comments but one important factor not mentioned is a thing called a muzzle brake. When you muzzle brake both calibers I doubt you could tell the difference in recoil. I was target practicing with a 22-250 no brake vs 300 Win Mag with a brake and I could tell very little difference. So why would one not bring a more powerful caliber to go hunting with. As you made a comment in the video, there was a much more violent splash in the milk jugs with the 300 Win Mag which equals an explosion of vital organs and a more ethical kill when hunting. Not saying a 7mm can't kill but more power is more power.
