I have a 300 win mag. From what I see in a reloading manual, comparing 150 grain bullets the 300 should be around 300 fps faster... So I would expect it would have more power. Wonder if the shape of the bullet, sectional density or something else is at okay.

@David Watson I know what will happen. It will create work and maybe even a rodeo or two. What? You see when you shoot a bull elk with a 300 Win Mag and 180 Partitions or Accubonds it’s dies and preferably you have horses and mules to pack it out. But sometimes those critters like to buck like rodeo stock. But I still do it every year. Dummy me.

Absolutely true story. Years ago I was at a friend's ranch in Colorado and were were watching a movie where the good guys were hiding behind a car and the car was being shot by the bad guys. We wanted to see what would happen. He had a 62-63 Chevy that was just sitting there. He had used it for part and the age of the car is important because it is thicker steel than modern cars. . He took his Marlin Lever Action 30-30 deer rifle and he shot the door. It was a soft tip hunting round. The round went through one door, through the backs of both front seats and then out through the other door. The bullet then went through both walls of his shed before falling to the ground somewhere. 2 steel doors 2 seats and 2 wood shed walls. FYI I'm a certified Smallbore and pistol coach and I've been teaching firearm safety to juniors at our gun club for the last 10 years and I tell this when it comes to the part about knowing what's beyond your target.

Yeah, you should be shooting from at least 100 yards off a bench...so you can hit the target from that distance, especially with the 30.06, 7 mm, and .300. I wouldn't want you to end up on one of the Darwin Award videos.

Is the 7 mm Remington Magnum also the 7 mm Remington ultra magnum or are those two different cartridges? I’m really interested in 270 and 280 right now but the distance is I shoot I think I 25 -06 would be perfect. I rarely get the chance to break 600 m. I’m really starting to develop an affinity for older more secure cartridges. Finding rifles in my price range is always a challenge. I try to never shop for a gun that’s more than the $500 -$600. I am window shopping right now for a savage access in a magnum caliber. If I could get a used Remington 700 in a long action of any kind on a layaway somewhere that would be ideal. Both of those rifles I imagine I can use and build off that action after all it’s the barrel that makes the accuracy from not mistaken and the shooter

That energy transfer is really impressive. The clay inside the cardboard just blew the box apart. And the .300 mag even turned a piece of clay into shrapnel with enough force to bruise you. That's a heck of alot of energy. Even from the 30-30. Very very cool. Good one WTW.

Great video as always. Out of the two Belted Magnums I like the .300 because I love 7.62. and I like the heavier grain bullets that go along with it even though they aren't as ballistic coefficient as the 7mm. The 6.5 is probably the most ballistic coefficient, yet it's a much smaller hole than big bore rifles, which big bore to me starts at 7.62. My absolute favorite all time is the 7.62x63, or as most people know it as the .30-06.
@Steve-yr5vi2 жыл бұрын
Berger sells 195 gr bullets for the 7mm with a ballistic coefficient of .755 which exceeds the ballistic coefficient of their best 6.5 by .07, the bullet with the best bc is the .375 a 407 gr bullet wit a bc of 1.022! incidentally their .30's exceed the 7 and the .338 exceeds the .30

Favorites change. I have had a favorite 7mm-08, just to go to a 6.5 Creedmoor as a favorite, from there to a 308 and now maybe my 270 will be the favorite after this year's deer hunt. Like you I have a lot of rifles and sometimes your newer rifle will become a favorite more times than not. Sorry I left out a few other once favorites like the 220 Swift, 22-250, 300 Win Mag not to mention my custom barreled 7mm STW.

You've successfully harvested clay blocks at point blank range. What goes with clay steaks? Mud pies? Sand soup?

I love both the 7mm and the 300, I'm considering moving to the 338 next.

Where I used to hunt, we were limited to slug guns. I used an Ithaca Deer Slayer. It worked, but was a bruiser on my shoulder. I'm wondering what it would do to your clay? I'm fond of the 243 Winchester, 100 grain for deer, in the relatively short range conditions in my woods, and would be curious what it can do. the 22TCM has a carbine, and with its soft hollow point, what would it do? So many calibers, so many different loads!

I think you was right, a whole lot of fun. Thanks for the video. For the leftover clay, maybe ball it up about baseball size and shoot them with 22, short, long, LR, and mag. Just a thought for it. Thanks again.

Don't know if you'll see a comment on an "older" video, but how about the 6.8 Western and 7mm rem mag vs clay?

Nice set of rifles and yeah why are you so close? Speed kills for sure I'm a 7mm fan as well. On the 7mm in slow motion you can see the pass thru hole. Not that the 300 is not effective but I believe a bit less recoil with the 7mm. Makes it more enjoyable to shoot.
