Very nicely done, I think everything turned out great. Cut to the chase...if people on KZbin think that they can get a custom bolt gun made for $2,000.00 Or less they have another thing coming. The tooling, his time running the lathe/mill, getting certified on cerakote all are things that people don't wanna take into consideration, and NO he's not working for $10 an hour. I have customers all the time ask me why I spent $2,500 on my custom 308 Win build. I tell them "Because no manufacture makes what I wanted in a bolt action rifle" These are the same customers who can't afford a Remington 700 bare bones for $600.00 Only in the next breath to say that "My wife won't let me buy more guns" Or they want a Tikka T3X ($800) and a Burris Eliminator scope ($1,500) on it for hunting 1x a year. Gavin...Keep doing a great job!

That's why I closed my Gunsmithing shop years ago. I had a fully equipped machine shop dedicated to gun work. I charged $35 an hour for machine work when the Machine Shop up the street charged $65 an hour. My customers complained I was too expensive and ultimately as much as I loved working on firearms, I went back to the business I grew up in - construction. The same people that wouldn't pay me $100 to work on their gun, will pay me thousands to work on their house. This is why there is a nationwide shortage of competent gunsmiths!!!

22" 7 prc shooting ~2850 is matching in trajectory and beating in energy my 300 win mag with a 24" shooting a 200gr bullet ~2850. Now throw a can on that 22" and gain some of that lost speed back... For me this totally (sadly) is going to completely push out my 300 win mag. A lighter, shorter, less recoiling gun that uses less cartridge powder to achieve the near same performance. it's a no brainer.

Love seeing how you are refining your process as you progress. 7mm PRC does nothing for me, it doesn't do anything the 7mm Rem Mag has not been doing for the last 50+ years. Really getting tired of "this is for long range hunting" and "for 1000 yard shooting" taglines. Long range hunting is a niche and those dedicated to it spend a lot of time on the range learning their rifle. It's not the cartridge it's the shooter.
@Ultimatereloader2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback! I personally like the idea of a rifle I could use for hunting (even at shorter ranges) AND for 1,000 yard shooting (we have a 1,000 yard range on-site). The 7mm PRC fits the bill for me.
@unclebob540i32 жыл бұрын
@@Ultimatereloader Gavin you love playing with new calibers and toys anyway. LOL! Hornady has been putting new calibers out and failing to support them IMO. With Hornady as the sole manufacturer of brass for the PRCs and the ARC, and their capacity maxed out, they're incapable of supporting their shiny new cartridges. A similarly built rifle in 7mm MAG will do the same thing with better ammo and brass availability. That would be a fun comparo video series! Hint, hint nudge nudge.
@exothermal.sprocket2 жыл бұрын
Also getting tired of opinionated shooters and enthusiasts claiming things that make manufacturers like Hornady with their ballisticians and engineers and 100's of thousands of dollars R&D seem like idiots for developing something "no one really needs." The 7mm PRC does stuff the 7mm Rem magnum will not do. Just do a little research. You may not be interested or want to drive a Corvette, the Camaro might be just fine for you. Doesn't mean the Corvette is the same as a Camaro. Hornady isn't maxed out. They are a growing top notch company. Go listen to their podcast and hear the horse's mouth. Things take time to develop. 6.5 Creedmoor didn't just happen overnight. .300 PRC is growing. 7mm PRC just came out. These are all designed to take very low drag, heavy for caliber bullets in fast-twist rifling in a highly optimized and efficient cartridge, something the .260 Remington was not, something the 7mm Rem Mag is not, something the .300 Win Mag is not.
@unclebob540i32 жыл бұрын
@@exothermal.sprocket switch to dacaf buddy! This one follows the current Hornady boys' "high BC, Long for caliber" fetish. Even better and harder working the engineering is their marketing department! The problems with advertising "long range hunting" is twits like yourself buy a shiny new rifle, fancy themselves "long range hunters" without spending their time and paying their dues at the range, go out and start wounding and wasting animals. ANY caliber round can be optimized for high BC bullets with the right load and barrel choice. Do a little research and actually speak with a few long range shooters.
