7mm Rem Mag Ammo Test

With the availability of ammo starting to increase I decided it was time to try and find a better option for the 7 mag.

Good vid. All rifles shoot so differently. My Tikka 7 Rem shoots both the 139gr Hornady Whitetail and the 175gr Remington at .75”. Terminal Ascent 155gr 1.8” n Hornady 154gr 1.9”.

If you choose the honrnady I'd be careful on shot placement at close range the 139 grain version tends to blow up even on whitetail when the scapula is contacted but behind the shoulder they should drop right where they stand

I did end up choosing it and it performed excellent, but I didn't hit the shoulder. No doubt they would have come apart if they had though!

@@mrmikes21 ya the velocity of the 7 rem mag with the 139 even the 154 interlock pushes the velocity boundry of the bullet design lol

You will never get the best results accuracy testing without letting the rifle cool off for 15 minutes between shots. The barrel expands with heat.

Your rifle looks nice. It looks like it kicks a lot. I'm curious to see what groups I can get with my 7mm Rem Mag when I get it all set up.

Thanks! The Boyd's stock really improved the appeal of the 770! Try the Hornady 139grain if you can find it. Used it this hunting season, accurate and good terminal ballistics!

@mrmikes21 I was afraid they wouldn't hold up at close range and / or cause too much damage to meat in the 7mm mag. They did great in my 7mm-08, though. Maybe I will try them in the mag after all. I did buy some of the American Whitetail 154 grain 7 mm mag and looking forward to trying those. Thanks for the video and your response.

@@MisterBrewer No problem! I was a bit hesitant as well with the weight so low, closest shot I took with it was about 70 and it didn’t do too much damage aside from ribs. No doubt the 154 will do well!

The 11 grains difference is about the same as 2 toothpicks. It is not a huge difference wieght wise so use what groups best
