berger 195 EOL or 190 long range target hybrid, hornady eldm180. I would say SMK 197, but in all but the hottest and highest alititudes you will sacrifice BC with an 8 twist. Bigger question- can you give more detail on bedding an accustock? And adding an oversized recoil lug? I have this rifle in 6 creed and it's fantastic. thanks!

I recently had a 7mm saum built. I’m running rl26 and shooting Hornady 180g eldm. Thing shoots amazing. .25 moa at 100. Shot it just a couple days ago and shot a 1.5” group at 500 yards with about 10mph wind gust. Haven’t got to shoot a group size past 500 yet but so far seems to be proving itself

The 180 gr eld has an impressive BC. While it is lower than published results, it is pretty good. Be careful on the speed though. Some have had the bullet come apart in flight at over 3000 fps.

Hi Kenny. I'm curious whether you measured CBTO on the new barrel and will continue to measure as the round count goes up. I'm under the 'impression' the ultra mags are real burners. This could be a great format to prove/disprove that notion. Another great series! Thanks!!
@EagleEyeShooting5 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, every bullet profile I logged the CBTO. It seems what erodes the throats are powder and bullet combos that hold that high peak pressure to build pressures. This cartridge seems balanced for a magnum. Barrel life might be slightly less than a Creedmore. Basically hope to do little load dev as possible and just shoot ELR

I built my 7mm SAUM on a Savage 116 all-weather long action, Criterion barrel 1-9 twist, 26" stainless, Holland muzzle brake, on a Boyds Pro Varmint laminated tactical stock (coyote color scheme,) adjustable cheek rest, aluminum pillar bedded, and free floated. Topped off with a Vortex PST 5-25 w/ mag adjustment throw lever and bubble level, on low Burris mounts. I use Norma brass, federal magnum primers, RL17 powder, and 175 gr. Hornady ELD-X. Laminated stocks are underrated, the best looking, and very strong.
@EagleEyeShooting5 жыл бұрын
What kind of velocities are you reaching? R17 I found in my 308 to be very temp sensitive. Shoots amazing though, looking to try R16. Thanks for sharing!
@johnnash51185 жыл бұрын
Eagle Eye Shooting RL17 was designed for short magnums; it’s giving me the highest velocities, even over Hodgdon 4831SC. I’m getting my best results with .3 grains under the maximum listed. I’m getting @2900 with the 175’s.
@EagleEyeShooting5 жыл бұрын
Ill try some. H1000 shines if you can pack 63 grains. Velocities shoot up from some testing ive done with 183gr's. Getting just over 2930 fps

180gr Berger Hybrids. I've had very good luck with them at 10-20 thousand off the lands. Even during load development all the group were less than an inch at 100 yards. Most were 1/2" or better. Only problem was choosing which tiny group out of the loads I wanted to continue loading. LOL This rifle is chambered in 28 Nosler on a Weatherby Vanguard action.

I just ordered a 7 saum prefit for my savage the other day and I have a question. I noticed that on ptg's website they say the 300 saum go/no go gauges are compatible with the 7 saum. Do your gauges say 7 saum or 300 saum on them?

The 300 WSM and 7 Saum are the same shoulder dimensions I believe. I ordered the 300 WSM Lee collet die and .284 mandrel for my reloading, however I think they should discount the go gauge since it doesn't have the correct caliber marked
