I’m sure it was, but it’s taken a beating for 2 years now and hasn’t skipped a beat, so I can’t knock it. 😂

The 5.4 triton is underpowered to begin with why do you think ford phased out the triton V8? 6 cylinder power with V8 mileage

Yeah it only makes 260hp BUT it makes 370 ftlbs… that’s alot for 2003!! This is all because of the intake design and everything else. Back when everyone else had high 200 something hp and ftlbs ford decided to say fuck going fast and just made a torque monster. But point is if you want you can change that power band, basic bolt ons (intake, headers) and a tune will get it to 300hp and will give more torque. Serious cams and head work can get you to 400. Custom intake manifold ofc. And if you want more than that you can start doing 3 or 4v head swaps and turning higher rpm’s. There’s a lot you can do with these engines and they’re absolutely phenomenal as daily driver truck engines. Yes ford phased it out for a reason, the coyote 5.0 is way better lol. But these things aren’t junk and they’re fun to build on a budget and can serve a worth purpose especially with boost.

The Coyote is just a stroked 4.6 4v with vvti. It's just an evolution of the mod motor. For it's time it wasn't really all that bad of an engine. When the mod motor was introduced in the trucks GM was still pumping out 5.7 tpi engines that made 200 horsepower give or take and 260 pound feet depending on the model. Dodge still had the magnums which made 215-245 and 290 and 345 pound feet but got 2-3 miles less per gallon than Ford or GM. Yeah, it wasn't a super fast engine in the Mustang but it was reliable...the only reason it wasn't more popular was because people still wanted pushrod engines and did their best to trash the mod motors.

Why dont you use the whole RPM range... Are you sacred to pop that 5.4? Like you have the new one at the builders. These tritons in the f150 dont have a red line for a reason. They make power all the way to 7000 aspirated

Nah you're thinking of the 4.6 man .. those love to rev high... And while revving that high may not harm the engine the torque converter in these will balloon up if you rev that high

@@roberth912 no im not thinking i know for a fact that you can go way past. These V8 5.4 are ment to do work. Under a full load mine goes all the way to the pin then shifts up and drops to 4600rpm. I have had lots of experience with this platform. I even recommend what to do with the trashmission like 4 months ago. Im fairly sure he ordered the billet shafts for the trans and the tcase. I definitely have a 4.6 and a 5.4 parked outside my house and a 79 4.9L i6 in storage.

@@johngz3413 yes me as well haha. I've got a 09 Crown Vic police interceptor with the 4.6 and an 02 F150 with the 5.4 lol. Both are fun. I've always wondered why my truck doesn't have a rpm guage. So revving that 5.4 over 5k rpm won't hurt anything?

@@roberth912 yeah the engine will be fine seems like they shift just sfter 6000 keep an eye on the trans fluids. Your torque convertor wont be happy with stock pump pressure if you do it a lot. I had a 99 stage two shift kit and billet input and output shafts. An upgraded manual tcase. My 03 that i drive right now i have kept stock with a giant light bar up top for winter commuting reliability. My 99 had other issues like plugs blowing out of the head because toy truck...
