The first time I saw the wonderful combination of Gaynor and Farrell, and it's my top favorite of their films together. One of my all-time most loved movies. (The sound remake doesn't come close to the same magic.)

I have never seen this version of this movie before, I am looking forward to seeing it tonight. Anybody that doesn't know about the movie Lucky Star with Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell should give it a shot.

Wow, what a treat PizzaFlix a double feature on Monday. I did not realize you present semi-"silents" too. That was when facial expression and body language made for the best actors. The film quality is excellent given its age. Very good selection. Thanks for dishing up this piece.

Hi Mike 🍕to most of us, this is a silent film. But it’s actual considered a sound film. While there’s no spoken dialogue, it has a synchronized music and effects track. In this case it’s a full orchestral score. 🍕
@mikenixon240110 ай бұрын
Yeah @@PizzaFLIX that's why I said "semi" but in all fairness and accuracy you are correct. Thanks.

I really enjoyed seeing this silent version. I'd only recently seen a talking version of the film and really enjoyed that. This was even better! Thank you very much for not only finding these gems, but for sharing them with us. All the best to you PizzaFlixMan!

A beautiful, five-foot-tall redhead with massive talent. Good things do come in small packages, especially when her name is Janet Gaynor. She was Fox's most reliable box-office draw in the late 1920's and early 1930's, and Charles Farrell was often her male lead (though I loved her in "Sunrise" with George O'Brien). Gaynor easily made the transfer from silent to sound, and later had even more fame as the lead in David Selznick's original "A Star is Born" in 1937.

Hi Doc 🍕I haven’t posted many before because I prefer the ones that are “technically” early sound films with the original synchronized music and sound effects track. They were only produced for a few years between1926-1929, before they went full sound 🍕

Whew! What an emotional roller coaster that was! So beautifully done. The story, the players, the direction, the sets, and the music. everything was magnificent. Even the battle field scenes were outstanding. The lines of taxis gave a little comic relief from the drama. Gaynor, 🥰at only 21 years old, her talent stood much taller than her petite 60 inches. One can easily see why deserved that 1st ever awarded Oscar. She set the bar high. Thank you PF for bringing this masterpiece into my living room.

I was in my bedroom waiting for this to begin on channel 13 PBS on a large console TV. My father was passing and asked what I was doing and told him this movie was just beginning. He replied that he saw it when he was 9 years old when it was released. I was about 13 and we sat together and watched it.
