We all saw why during her fight with Kenpachi. She would probably just nonchalantly kill whoever she was mad at and bring them back to life several times over until they were either traumatized or wanted to simply stay dead. Who knows how many times Yamamoto covered for “moments of weakness” where she was the thing that went bump in the night in some poor district.

I prefer to imagine that the reason Squad 11 is collectively terrified of her is that whenever they would get too out of hand Yamamoto would tell her to go for a walk through their barracks and remind them of the pecking order. Then, the survivors would be too terrified to say what happened to them directly, so the newbies would just have the order to never, ever antagonize the 4th division Captain for any reason beaten into them so hard, they don't even know why it's important that everyone in the Division knows this, just that it is very, very bad if someone does.

I think what he means to say is that squad 0 probably wanted him to accept the blood oath that required all the squad 0 members to unalive themselves in order for one of them to use bankai. And they probably thought his bankai was already too powerful even without being a member of squad zero and that he was probably too dangerous to let live normally where he can chose to use his bankai whenever he wishes. So by making him a royal guard and with the blood oath, they could control when he was allowed to use his full power. Making him less of a risk for soul society. But a dick move nonetheless.

Aizen knows he will not win against Yamamoto, so he had to make Wonderweiss specifically to counter him. He even sealed some of the best captains in Hueco Mundo, which includes Zaraki and Unohana, because he knows it'll be way troubling if he ever fought them head-on.

By his own admissions the only ones he wasn’t sure he could defeat without hogyoku were Yamamoto and Zaraki (the latter because he didn’t know the full extent of his power since according to him Zaraki adapts to the enemy power and somehow he grows stronger and stronger, but he didn’t know the reason behind it)

I always find it odd how Uhonana exists holding the title KENPACHI whilst there was an 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th reign. It gets passed through eras or gens, by DEFEATING the previous holder and or, teaching the way to the next in line as Yachiru stated. I just find it funny how she just ‘dropped’ the title, even though she was inactive as a fighter, more of a healer, basically giving the title up.. in a way seeing the other Kenpachi’s from 2 through 10 illegitimate or unworthy of the Kenpachi name. But it just shows characters like, Azashiro, Kuruyakshiki and Gosuke had insane levels of strength but could never uphold the Kenpachi name like Zaraki We all know Kenny, Zaraki, is THE Kenpachi, the only one truly worthy of the title, as Unohana/Yachiru mentions, after defeating her but still. It is odd how she was alive all this time during multiple reigns or eras. Its intriguing.

In order to qualify as a Kenpachi, one needs to kill the former Kenpachi but Unohana was alive all along for the 1000 years. Therefore, the ones who occupied the office of the captain of 11th division weren’t actually Kenpachi at all. There are only 2 Kenpachis. Unohana and Zaraki

It's sad that we never saw Tessai in action against a powerful threat, since he's supposedly Captain level with only Kido. I sadly don't think Kubo cared much about expanding on it, compared to the more unique Zanpakutō power system for Shinigami. It's similar in a way to JoJo's Hamon which was eventually abandoned in favour of Stands.
