Thank you for the incredible amount of time and effort you invest in these videos. Your knowledge, your work ethic, and your values are an inspiration for me. I am extremely impressed with how easily you seem to transition and function in such a wide array of machinery; from the purely mechanical very old equipment, to the somewhat younger mechanical early electrical combinations, and now to the computer managed and diagnostic systems that are the future of most all equipment. Your depth and breadth of knowledge is very impressive. I also like your relationship with your dogs. Someone looking for a great education would do well to have you as teacher.

I had to replace the compressor on my sears seat in my Case magnum. Man what a pain to get at. Dealer wanted over $400, bought same thing on line for half that. Love the stories man! I was in the Navy also. Cussing doesn’t bother me, it’s a universal language! 😁

Mind your back! You've only got one and when it goes bad, you'll know about it for months or years and it will never be the same again. I had a similar seat blow a hose on my MF7490 last Summer. Luckily the hard plastic hose was easier to get at on the Grammer seat than on that Sears.

Pleased to see I am not the only one that shops at harpor freight . Some of there stuff is very good , some OK and some not so OK . The thing is to know what you are looking at . In general , I think there tool quality has gradually improved . And if I need a specialty tool , at my age , if it works one time , I may never use it again . Enjoy your videos and your common sense way of working and dealing with things . Wyr God bless

exactly.........on any stressed, Turbo diesel engine............use new main bolts,rod bolts,head bolts,buttress bolts..........chase the threads,clean the threads and make sure the thread pockets have no liquids in them, trapped liquid under a torqued bolt will SPLIT the block in a matter of weeks or months. If the harmonic balancer is a fluid filled type..........throw it away, they go hard eventually and destroy the crank (unbalanced). The solid rubber balancers also have a habit of coming apart too.

Your 2 years younger than me, I'm telling you that only doing out of frames will lengthen your career. I stopped doing inframes probably around 38, you seem established & busy enough to make some of your own rules to make your life a little more pleasant. Just my 2 cents, also just did a 8.1 out of a 644j with 2 broken pistons, nice engine to work on.

Keep telling your stories Warren, a good part of the appeal of your channel is these stories. I can't get a machine shop to listen to what I want done, even when I hound the counter lady to write it down on the work order while she doesn't even understand what she's writing and fights me at every word dictated. Needed a pair of VW air cooled heads milled flat and not the standard flycut, I get instead flycut cylinders which I was going to do myself off of the flat surface I didn't get. Had one outfit steal my Delorean OHC Pontiac crank and subbed a chevy 250 six crank for it as if I wouldn't know the difference. Surprise was I went back with their crank and they produced mine after all - thought for sure it was long gone and forever too. I'll never understand how they would try to steal it in the first place but especially giving it back up on demand like they did. My mentor had no such troubles with his work, but his account was worth a thousand a year to them at the very least. I was just a walk in nobody so they did their best to work me over somehow every time. I don't get machine work done anymore.

I had the same problem on a 12.5 in a 9620 wheel tractor only instead of running away the son of a gun would loose prime after sitting for 5 minutes two different shops put cups and injectors in it. It took me a while but I found that plug had started leaking fuel into my intake drilled tapped and sealed a plug problem went away. Love your videos you should do a service truck tour

Great video and stories lol, I have used interstate Mcbee parts several times and have had very good results. I agree as an independent mechanic it is definitely an insurance policy to change out the injectors , head , rod bolts , even water pump and thermostat! I even flush radiator and change out coolant hoses if there questionable. When you work for a dealer you have them to back you if something fails but when your on your own its your pocketbook !! Great info and advice to your viewers thanks for sharing and I know Otis and myself definitely appreciate what you do bud 👍

"Machine shop blues" . handy tools to make if machine shop loses the aligning dowels from the block ,cut the head of some old head bolts two of then cut slot on the top .it will align your head gasket and you can drop head straight on top ,put a couple of head bolts in and unscrew em with a screwdriver ,gasket has stayed aligned . simple and handy for them blues .

My local dealer is trying to get me to trade the CIH 7140 in for a new one. At 12,600 hrs it’s never been apart for anything. Just regular maintenance, some shift cables, few light bulbs, and couple pressure sensors. The dealer recommended I change out the injectors due to hrs. I haven’t noticed any blue smoke (minus a little until it’s warm) or any change in performance. I really don’t want to trade as it’s paid for and has never let me down. Dealer wants $195 a piece! What are your thoughts on changing the injectors?

5k subscribers! What was the ring you had to chisel off the crank flange? The only thing that comes to my mind is a seal surface repair sleeve but I wouldn't think you'd want to remove one of those. I think you might have edited out explaining what that was.
@markrobert52796 жыл бұрын
It was the wear sleeve for the original seal. I am guessing that the new seal was an updated seal, the type that turns inside of itself instead of the crank turning in it.

@jeffleach26686 жыл бұрын
Don Voll. An in frame is where the block doesn't come out of the vehicle. You can easily do pistons and sleeves in the frame and save a lot of time. You couldn't change the cam bearings and I don't think you'd want to remove the crank when doing an in frame.

The problem you have with machine shops is nationwide and it’s caused by two things. 1. The first is the trend toward reman everything. There’s simply not the demand there once was for machinists. I still remember when every Carquest or NAPA had its own in- house machine shop. 2. Young boys( and I do mean boys) have zero interest in hot, heavy, and dirty work. Why do you think Mexicans are doing all the hot& nasty labor jobs in America now. We are the second largest county in my state and we have ONE automotive machine shop in the whole county. With agriculture machinery it may be different but in the automotive world low mileage salvage engines are the way to go for most auto applications today. You could easily spend three times the amount to properly rebuild the average car engine today compared to a low mileage salvage engine. I can buy a Honda Accord engine with less than 40K miles on it for $800. You can’t even buy the parts to overhaul it for that. It’s obvious which choice the customer will make. Again, the agriculture engine repair business is different in that salvage yards aren’t full of low hr. Engines. I did automotive machine work for 5 years. If I had several million dollars for equipment and a building I’d open a shop for you but I’m too old and too tired of the business.
