Per factory repair manual this is how to perform a proper compression test and spark plug replacement.
Plugs I used ACDelco 41-101 Professional Iridium Spark Plug amzn.to/3JkfVpK

Update about spark plug gap
We’ve done a lot of dyno testing and with our "Magnum wires", there was absolutely no difference in power between .045 gapped plugs and factory .060 gapped plugs. Removing the resistance in the ignition wire has many benefits! Back when we use to run Taylor wires, the .045 gap worked well but with the Iridium tips being a bit more fragile I recommend leaving them alone at .060.

Thank you for vid Kevin. Swapped out original platinum plugs. 106,000 miles.. 1/4" gaps. Original wires on 2004 were seized, destroyed several during removal. Made a long hook tool and pulled connectors from outside wheel wells. Same hook tool then reinserted and pulled off the seized metal tip connectors. No more misfires on idle.

Wow 106,000 you got your moneys worth out of those plugs for sure.. Now you wont have to do it till 200,000 miles. But Brazels RV recommends changing every 30,000 and I agree based on what mine looked like at 40,000. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

P0200 means that the engine control module (ECM) has detected a malfunction in the fuel injector circuit. The fuel injector circuit controls the fuel injectors and commands how much fuel and when to spray the fuel.

Kevin, thanks for these videos on the Workhorse chassis and 8.1L Vortec. I have a 2007 Winnebago Adventurer...same chassis/engine...while I don't have a lot of time to work on it right now, I'm looking forward to having some time soon and your videos will be invaluable! My current challenge is finding the reservoir for the hydraulic jack/slide-out system...I know I'm low on fluid but having a hard time locating the reservoir...probably need to call Winnebago! Terry

Dielectric Grease is not an insulator. DG (Electrical Contact Lubricant) provides ease of assembly for electrical connections, protects from moisture and prevents oxidation & corrosion. Whether you should use it on high voltage connections and/or in high heat environments is another matter for discussion.

Hi Kevin , I have a 2004 Itasca with the 8.1 here in Portugal. Much appreciate your films. The one thing I am missing is a engine workshop manual and can’t find where to source one...any advice would be great. Also any thoughts on whether after 6 months sitting I should drain the fuel tank ? Thanks for your time .

6 month on the gas should not be a problem at all, you can always mix some fresh gas with it when your ready. Send me a email to kc5210@gmail.com and I will send you a link to all the repair manuals I have.

Kevin, you mention that you have an "enrichment problem" in this video. Did you ever figure out what was the cause of it? I am wondering if it was the PCM that you replaced with an older PCM that you had when you chased a P0200 code. Also is the PCM and the ECM different components on your MH?
@ktoutdoor
@ktoutdoor Жыл бұрын
The enrichment problem seams to only happen while I'm out west on after big change in altitude climbing a hill in open loop but it never closes until I shut down and restart the engine. The P0200 was caused by a faulty injector driver in the ECU do to moisture infiltration. ECU or ECM = Engine computer TCM or TCU = our Allison Transmission computer.

@@ktoutdoor (just 1 more question) after you disconnected the harnesses to the coil packs and to the injectors, did you bleed down the 55 psi that was in the fuel rail? I am wondering if that pressure remained at 55 while you were cranking the engine but the fuel could not get past the injectors because the harness was disconnected?
@ktoutdoor
@ktoutdoor Жыл бұрын
@@larryv4249 I assume I removed the fuel pump relay so what little pressure was left would quickly bleed off on the first crank. Because the injectors would still be pulsing.

Google spark plug pliers that may help but it might be wise to get a new set of plug wires if any of the ends pull off this is what i bought www.ultrarvproducts.com/SPW8100-UltraPower-8.1L-Magnum-Spark-Plug-Wires

Remove the fuse to the fuel pump. NEXT start the engine, engine will run for a short duration. This will bleed off all the fuel pressure.

P0200 is an injector circuit code. Most likely electrical, not mechanical. The 8.1 is notorious for intake gaskets if you do run across a misfire.
