They fit perfectly, they are a thousand pounds heavier than a 5.9L Cummins, so you need a heavy front axle, and if you're in my world where I us a truck for work you will loose a thousand pounds of payload, personally the best engine Cummins ever made

Finally seeing the light and Cummins is only way to get ford out of the rut. Cummins made a believer out of me when I swapped out a 440 gas to a 5.9 12-valve p-pump in my 1975 Dually Power Wagon. Very simple motor with less parts and more power & torque and great fuel mileage.

Better is subjective. 1K pounds extra weight and not a lot of extra hp. They are notorious for spitting rods when turned up.
@BillyBigRiggin3593 жыл бұрын
@@Freakingstang actually its the ones that were in combines that like to throw rods. And a 5.9 12v only has 160hp with 400 ft/lbs of torque, where as the caps pump 8.3 comes stock 400hp with 1075 ft/lbs of torque. Seems like a lot more power to me lmao
@Freakingstang3 жыл бұрын
They threw rods because they were turned up to whooping 300hp and 3000 rpm. I love how you cherry pick numbers. The lowest hp 5.9 ve pump non intercooled was 160hp. 96-98 5.9 p pumps had 215 and industrial versions with the same pump were 205hp in medium duty trucks. The lowest hp 6.7 was 350 in pickups and 300-310 hp in industrial applications. Some exceeding 400 in current years. Most p pump 8.3’s were rated at 230-275 hp. There was never a p pump 8.3 rated at 400, only the common rail isc engines received that power, and isn’t applicable here at all. Combines spit rods, generators spit rods under full continuous load of a whopping 200kw. Even seen a few medium duty trucks with lots of crank issues. -Cummins tech.

I had one of the first 08 F.450s and had tons of problems with the 6.4, always in the shop for weeks at a time and it was my personal service truck. At 100k miles when the warranty was up I did a 5.9 24v with p pump conversion, pistons, bottom end, fuel plate mod, cam, injectors, turbo, south bend twin disc (i ordered it with the manual 6sp 4x4 with pto). It did 530hp to the wheels on the dyno after it was all finished. The 8.3 is awesome though, that's a serious under taking.

@AustinC28383 жыл бұрын
@@billyboots3730 Why? If Ford or GM had it from the beginning they would have the recognition of the reliability of Cummins. In this hypothetical world, whatever Diesel engine Ram would have in its 2500/3500s would probably be a pile of junk. Take the Eco Diesel for example, absolute fiat garbage I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot pole. Google it if you don’t believe me. Dodge can’t make a Diesel engine or transmission worth shit. The only good thing they make is the Hemi. People only like them because there they’re the most macho trucks, always were. Largely due to the Cummins engine. GM is the best overall truck. Both for diesel and gas. *Most* generations of GM Gas and Diesel trucks were extremely reliable, or in other words they had the least un-reliability of the three. For new trucks Fords are probably the best in terms of reliability today from what I’ve personally seen. I am completely un biased by the way, I know people and have family members with trucks from all three brands.
@billyboots37303 жыл бұрын
@@AustinC2838 nice writeup, but i think you missed my point, people dislike cummins just because its in a dodge chassis, and by the way, all the standard diesels were good, as well as the 68rfe, and the new aisin is good, the 47s 48s and 68s are based on the 727 torqflite, which was never made for a diesel, but, in stock form, those autos werent actually that bad.
