Which is why many EG/DC Honda guys ran the OEM ITR spring/shock combo :) EDIT: I was surprised with the AMRs, but I think it has a lifetime warranty, would be nice to do a re-test. Probably with a Koni yellow too.

I have been fitting shockworks products to a customers car. I have had several cars with different coilovers but have never driven with anything like the shockworks before! Ive definately learnt from this video, i was unaware that the shock is able to give body control. I thought that was purely upto the spring and swaybars. Thanks very much for taking the time to make this video guys.

Same! I would have liked higher spring rates for my own car. But for my customer, it was the ultimate road car setup. They dont look super flashy or anything on the outside but its the tech and RnD thats inside them is where the money is! I do have some really weird old HKS/Kawasaki s13 coilovers with inverted tube shocks that looked like they would be good but where terrible on the road if you ever want to run another random bunch again.

Thanks for producing this content and having Chris walk us through the results. I have seen some say that Bilsteins with lowered gas pressure are a really solid setup. I think they may be onto something as Bilsteins on the street can be a bit harsh and have quite a bit of feedback in comparison to a Koni yellow which does ramp up hard, but overall is more comfortable until it's not.

Thank you guys for this test/review which is not only without any self interest but really objective, technical and really untainted results. It seems "Made In Japan" is the best no matter the brand (Showa, Cusco, Buddy Club) or age (20 or over 30 years). I am sure KYB and Tokico would perform similarly. Safe Real value over time. Mid range price may be a hit or miss. Cheap is just good for stance, mild casual use and short term use.

Dude, this was awesome info! Now I understand the difference between a good shock and a crappy one. HOWEVER!!!! You can't really perform a test like this using the method u applied. You need to test at least 2 of each brand. ie. The American model was clearly a factory defect, and IMO because of the technology (pressure, fluids, gas), it's pretty likely that there were more that underperformed or perhaps overperformed their brand just by chance. That's why you need at least 2 tests for each brand. The real lesson learned here is, you can buy good shocks and still get a bad ones and never know, sans the dissatisfaction. Looks like Quality Control is the right way to shop them out! Again, the information was fantastic! you got my sub!

thanks boss beek! yes I agree, at the time i made this video as you can tell the camera quality is low and the lights are flickering, but all that aside I borrowed all those sets from people and luckily for me Chris from shockworksis is local and had time to do the comparison, I would love nothing more than to test 15 different brands and three sets of each all for the same car , you are 100% correct some of those coilovers were old some where new some were from crashed cars , but the info and message was all the same, when shocks leak they leak regardless of age, the factory civic shock were nearly 30 years old with over 300,000kms on them and still performed like new , there will be more videos like this coming soon

Really interesting to see the comparison & would be interesting to see relative prices & perhaps comparing @ similar damping rates where possible rather than just 'softest'. 2yrs ago found MXSR irresistible for the price for '89 Civic whose originals felt VERY soft despite no evidence of leaking. Happy for the relatively little use it gets & lower ride height if less Impressed by very short travel & rebound to cater to those who want to SLAM their cars (a worry if ED already had the shortest travel of later Integra & Civic they also claim to fit.! Makes me glad I have some Koni on CRX & some 2nd hand Koni for EG & Prelude projects, even if I will still try MXSR on that too (bought previously...& hope to fix 2nd Prelude) wonder how they compare?. Guess I'm probably not pushing hard enough to complain about 2nd hand Tein on my DC2.

Great content guys and super informative. I’m a very amateur former club-level racer here in NSW who achieved reasonable results using the Tein Superstreets with the spring rates and valving as per Fulcrum’s setup. Oh-in a GDB WRX STI. The rear struts started leaking after about 5000km but I believe it may have been extended time between drives may have buggered the seals. I’ve had both rears rebuilt and the front left is leaking and knocking too. Have you dealt with these struts before as I’m keen to hear your opinion. I’m thinking seriously about Shockworx setup for my FG GS. Good to see they performed well, though I’m also considering Bilsteins on Kings low as it’s not a track car. Great content and I’m subbed.👍

@@daskamu I’ve had both rear dampers rebuilt and the front left needs rebuilding as well. These are Tein Super Streets with less than 15,000 km on them. I’ve found the Teins are great while they are working, in so far as they are OEM factory quiet, comfortable for the daily drive and still capable on the track for a bit of club-level shenanigans. The damping/spring rates are far from optimal for track but I’ve put down some respectable/competitive lap times on the Teins and I can “glide” over ripple strips that upset stiffer setups. The low-km rebuilds are the biggest problem with mine, but I’m probably contributing by leaving the car for weeks at a time.

@@TURBOTRISTO most of the serious guys and gals in the NSW combined clubs Supersprint series I used to run in seem to be running MCA although I’ve seen some very quick cars on KWs, HSDs (surprisingly good from my observations) and BC racing. I've seen about a dozen personal accounts, from members in a car forum I'm on, of maxspeedingrods breaking at the welds. Most commonly if there is a link bar bracket welded it breaks off. A couple said the base broke on rears where a skinny arm is welded. One person said the top cap split. Saving money isn't worth wrecking possibly dieing, get at least one step above!

@@TURBOTRISTO yeah I used the COT6 coilovers and they were super easy to adjust and install. If I was playing to do some sporty driving ("doing turbos" is what my girlfriend calls it lol) I would just adjust the knobs to stiffen them up and for everyday driving I kept them somewhere in the middle of the adjustment range. They actually looked pretty good as well, the blue and black looked really good with my blue brake calipers and gunmetal gray rims. They are definitely an upgrade from the OEM suspension that came on the 2nd gen wrx's. I eventually upgraded to a set of Tein coilovers and the only real difference was that the adjustment range was more dramatic and they felt less bouncy and at their softer settings, but honestly there wasn't actually a huge difference in the overall performance.

@@TURBOTRISTO cool not far away I'm in Oakleigh..yeah alot of people have just run these Whiteline springs in their lancers on the OEMs with no issues. It's about a 35mm drop in height all around so nothing to crazy, so I think there is still quite abit of travel in the shocks. This car is a just a daily that gets driven to work and back each day, nothing hectic like track time, I do love the height control of the coilovers to be able to dial in that perfect height, I just need to decide if want the comfort of springs over the slammed look which is obviously going to be alot more of a ruff ride.

besides fitting every coil over to the same car and doing a set track in controlled weather and temperatures, with fresh tyres on each test there is no way that it could be a fair test, this is the fairest test known to man, the shock dampening rate is the only factor worth measuring, spring rates can be swapped and changed, re valving and custom valving shocks in almost all cases in not possible
@StopTargetingOurKids

@@TURBOTRISTO but isn't the springs what causes the ricer bounce on the cheaper coilovers?
@badgermetal
@badgermetal Жыл бұрын
@Kevin Hawthorne cheap coilovers usually have a combination of too high spring rate paired with poor damping performance. 12k springs on any shock will feel bouncy compared to stock which is about 700, especially paired with a small shock . They use super stiff springs so when you slam the car on the ground the tires won't have the travel to hit the fender. Imo the cheap ones are for people that want to lower their car and don't mind buying new ones when they die.

If you were unsure how to fix that/what is causing it.. it is the framerate of the camera not matching the stupid 50Hz frequency the Australian power grid uses. you won't notice it with a bulb or normal light, but with fluro's they turn on and off constantly at the 50 Hz frequency as the power grid. This means if you have the camera set to record at 30 FPS or 60 FPS it wont match the 50 Hz frequency of the fluro and cause the flicker. If you set the camera to 50 or 25 FPS that should fix the issues as it will be in sync with that 50 Hz. Sorry for the long message, just thought it may help with future content :) Loved the video great content!

We need testing for all the shocks as part of a professional review service. It would be great to do a wear test on them too.

Hey just wanted to ask when you have the chance please if you think maxspeedrods are good for lowering the car to daily driving and will be good to ride on i dont want to drive and have my springs come off😅 I have a 05 acura tsx thank you!
@TURBOTRISTO

Yeah they sure are they can handle the punishment. You just need to make sure they don’t have any leaks when they arrive the quality checks aren’t the best, if they leak send them back they will replace them no charge , if they come with no leaks they will last you years no problem

Do the shockworks and cusco smoothen out the ride with stiffer springs? What does it feel like to the driver in comparison?

@@TURBOTRISTO So a BC or Maxpeedingrod with that same spring rate will feel harsher in comparison to the shcokworks?
@TURBOTRISTO
@TURBOTRISTO 9 ай бұрын
it would depend what that spring rate is, i would recommend emailing shockworks
@dennisrobinson8008
@dennisrobinson8008 9 ай бұрын
@@TURBOTRISTO Like an 8k or 10k spring rate. On BC and Maxxies it will be harsh over bumps. I wasn't sure if a higher quality shock or strut could smooth that out, where we have ground contact at all times but not as much harshness transmitted into the chassis. So we'd have the advantages of the higher spring rate and more smoothness? I guess the only way to know is run both with the same spring rates.
