I have had a few ticks but I make sure to do a thorough check before I head home and then once I arrive home I check again before showering, and on two occasions I've had the police called as well as the city bylaw officers, I only detect in areas that I have permission and or have the legal right to do so . Although last week a young man started yelling at me for detecting a soccer field, so I showed him a bag containing a large assortment of wire/nails/ cut up aluminum cans and other pieces of metal and then I asked if he would like me to replace these items back into the soccer field where I found them . He simply then continued on walking.

@Christoph 1945 I have found only one cut coin and it is quite old , I was told that my cut coin was cut purposely as that was a way of giving change and paying for service or products. I won't be detecting this season however because we had a break in and my detector as well as my bicycle and other valuables were taken , times are tougher for others I suppose. Thank you for watching and commenting Chris and I hope you continue to enjoy the adventures in metal detecting. Best regards from Lloyd.

@Christoph 1945 Our insurance has covered a percentage of the items stolen but I had neglected to include the detector and a few other items to our insurance as they were recently purchased and I had not yet included them into my policy, ( a lesson in procrastination) .I am saving for a new (newer) detector for this upcoming season , the cut coin that I found is a bronze cut coin with no date and very little detail . I did although find my first silver Canadian dime two years ago and now silver is all I think about .lol.

On the beach - Be aware of the tides!! It is so easy to be wandering about on a shallow rise, then find the sea has come in around you, and you have a long wade or even a swim, back to dry land! There are many places to get your local high and low tide times. If you DO end up swimming, watch out for currents that can run faster than a human can swim. Don't fight it, work your way across, until you are out of it.

True, but I'm still finding items of interest within military use areas. Vacated by Canada. Found as Crown Land and open for public use. I'm fond of bayonets and cap badges. Such as off the Queen's Own Canadian Rifles. Passport usage has taken me there. Oregon, also, outside Whites City. WW2 training facilities and medical services.

Great video! I am happy to say I've never had anyone get too aggressive with me for detecting [knocks on wood], but I have had it happen a few times where I've asked for and gotten permission from a spouse, but then the husband or wife comes home and is unaware of this. To them, there's just some weirdo with a metal detector digging in their yard. I have learned to try to explain as quickly as possible that I've already gotten permission!

Hi Kris, great video and reminders, thank you. I'd add lightning, I once nearly had my lot when I ventured too close to a large tree as it got hit by lightning. A very large branch fell from about 20/30ft and missed me by a foot or two. It had only just started to get dark and rain a bit when this bolt came seemingly out of no-where. All the best to you as always.

Tweezers bent in the middle to get rid of ticks. Stops the body fluids being squeezed into your body as you apply pressure. Grab a hold as tight as you can as near to your skin as you can and pull out quickly. Used to long distance walk in Scotland a lot. Rannoch moor is full of ticks. Have removed loads from Me and my dog.

Great video. Here in Australia, not everything wants to kill you. Some of our spiders are very friendly, and make nice pets. Some can even be trained to take a hitch, and can pull a small child about in a cart. As someone who has spent some time under the knife, I can tell you that the sun is one of the deadliest things, anywhere. maybe not today, or next week, but perhaps 10, 20 or 30 years into the future, it's effects could be felt. Cheers! Oh I almost forgot. Kangaroos. Do NOT underestimate the killing power of a kangaroo in the bush. Seriously, they can disembowel you with those rear legs. Never approach one in the wild. And also, never assume that our brown snakes are all 'brown'. They come in a variety of colors from green to black, and they are our deadliest snakes. And I know the inland taipan might look cute, but resist the urge to pat it. They are cranky little sods. And always use insect repellant. This will help reduce your chances of a tick bite. Crikey, I could go on for hours...

I commented on an Aussie metal detector's video that really, forget the SAS SBS SEALS Spetsnaz, anybody who goes metal-detecting in the Australian bush has it way over those weaklings! The video owner commented that yes, sometimes they meet snakes, had one red-black wind itself around the coil. He abandoned the metal detector, came back in thirty minutes, the snake was gone, having won the fight!

Welcome advice for experienced detectorists or those new to the hobby. I often see club members not wearing gloves in the field, but the amount of broken glass, etc., that we encounter make this tip a ‘must’ Barbed wire, above and below ground is also a big problem. Electric fences also require some respect, especially if having to cross them! Some good contributions in the comments column as well, thank you.

The only time I felt threatened metal detecting was not the time I almost picked an adder from beneath the rock nor the time I was about to put my hand on a scorpion. it was the time I was starting to get on my way to home from detecting a beautiful gold nugget and It was already getting too late and too dark, on my way and then a crazy drunken shepherd appeared and put himself in front of my vehicle threatening me with a huge log! saying "You shall not pass!" Being a Society for Industrial Archaeology member is a reason to visit dangerous metal detection areas. An understanding of the various dangers is then cultivated. Before improperly handling items of particular hazards. But, even knowing that from Society resources, I was hurt. Today by thinking outside the box. I allowed my interest in firearms to influence thought. The item of question was dug at a silo tank pad of raised concrete rim for base support. In a mill site of the Koch Industries. Flanked by wide concrete ditching with grated drainage to secure spilled tank contents. I was wearing chemical gloves and appropriate making. Until finding what looked like a small caliber necked casing of brass. An aberration. Seemingly innocent as such. Bemused by my sense of disbelief I pulled off my right hand protection to grip it with a thumb and forefinger. The pain was immediate. My object was dropped upon a concrete surface as I moved to sandy soil outside the containment area. Rubbing my hand extent with dirt damp from recent wet weather. Which quickly took an acid off my flesh. The hand looked undamaged. Mud was wiped off with a rag I had to contain soiled articles. So, gloved anew the casing was gripped to tap it upon concrete. Taking off dirt for me to identify it as a fitting.. To pass a substance between hoses made for that exchange. Put it within my dug hole. I do this activity to find items of interest. I've been reminded that other values need segregation. Mix thoughts without abracadabra.

Good stuff, Kris. Here in the southern US, it is the ticks that I despise the most. Although, I may hate chiggers even more. They can cover you up and you won't even know it as they are so small. You don't know until the little red bumps and the insane itching begins. We have lots of snakes, too. Copperheads and water moccasins are most prevalent. With an occasional Timber rattlesnake but they at least give you a warning.

Remy Richardson It was scary! I was seeing a girl at the time who lived in a village called Langdon, and I lived in a village called Eythorne. I used to walk to her house and back every day in the summer (I was very keen) which was about 4 miles. I used to walk back at around 9-10, when the sun was setting. Walking towards a forest, I saw this huge cat run alongside the field next to me. Looked like a Jaguar or a Puma. After a while, three little cubs popped out as well. I legged it, and didn’t stop legging it until I got to the village. I NEVER walked back at night again. A couple of weeks later it was on local TV as loads of other people had seen it.

Remy Richardson It’s weird, because there seemed to be a big surge in sightings in the early to mid nineties, but now you don’t hear so much. It’s either that they’ve been caught (in secret to not scare the public) they’ve been wiped out (unlikely) or they have just become more secretive. Whatever it is, has made me not really think about them since that time. It’s only this conversation which has reminded me!

Giant asian hogweed is horrible even if you brush past it with bare skin. Looks a little like cow parsely but bigger. Introduced here as an ornamental plant during the victorian era, it went native and rampant. Another area of concern is detecting near golf courses. Might sound silly, and common sense, but on a local coastal hike some time ago - a golf ball landed with a thud, two feet from me at the bottom of some cliffs. A perplexed golfer appeared at the edge looking for it. Also, horseflies are rampant in fields with stagnant water or horse manure nearby. I can attest to the allergic reaction, not nice. Hmph, now I sound like I'm putting folk off the idea altogether! Enjoying the videos, and thanks for your efforts.

These are all valid points , but the finds are worth the things we have to deal with🔊🔊🎧💰💍💰. Another danger that is actually not for metal detectorist but to make sure we fill in our holes. If no one knows they are there it's a good for way to get a sprang or worse. Other than that A detectorist can get eye strain detecting nude beaches 🤣😁🤣😁🤣😁

yall metal detectors better watchout for mines aswell, ive found around 15 tellerminen 43's while metal detecting. And incase you find one get your coordinates call the authorities. DO NOT TOUCH IT or shove it or do anything to it also keep in mind that every helmet, rifle, ammunition etc are very very dangerous because they could be a booby trap and ammunition might be explosive and the lead from it is poisonous. Just keep yourself safe ok?

Great vid dude, I'd like to add a tidbit. Carry some kind of documentation. Whether it be a ncmd card. Print off something from the crown estate website, and I know it's weird to ask your farmer, but get it on paper that he gave you permission. 《

But they have two leg shorter than others and can only run one way around mountains. If you move up or down slope ya ya should be safe. Or so I’ve been told.

Cows in the field STAY OUT, couple of times when I used to fish had a bunch standing right behind me problem is the ones at the back can't see and keep pushing forward had a couple of close calls. Farmer I know was not so lucky, had one of HIS cows charge him knocked him over then quickly came back stopped alongside him whilst he was still winded then drop and roll over him twice.

Oh! great now I'm paranoid. I will sell my detector and stay inside it is safer. Cows never worry me I have had 50-60 cows running at me. they stop about 25 yds away, work out your human and run like hell. There is a primeval instinct it cattle that warns them that a man on foot is a danger. I only ever wear shorts. and with flip flops on my feet. Very casual detectorists me. , But now you have me terrified thanks for that.

Ok it’s maybe not a potential danger for everyone I guess but I was detecting in my local playing fields a few years ago, it was late summer around 6pm I was just bleeping away minding my own business, then this older chap came to ask me if I wanted a bum ! A bum I said , yes he said whilst pointing his boney old finger to some nearby bushes ! Totally shocked and confused by his rather forward proposal I made my excuses and left with haste. So yes make sure you are aware of your surroundings !!
