So many errors I’ve also fallen into, but every day as their mother I work at correcting my own tendencies and patterns as you called them.

This video helped lift a MASSIVE burden off my mother heart. Thank you THANK YOU Katie & Elisha for sharing your life. We are so like minded we could be the same people. I have 4 children 5& under (eldest just turned in may) and I have no family of my own or mother I can look to. I’ve gleaned so much from you& your family and am forever thankful for your labors. I love you all & pray you’re greatly blessed in all you do. Sincerely, a thankful momma from Kentucky.

I really enjoy the fact that you share these book recommendations and speak so much on the school age kids. It's very true those years can be over looked. I'm in them. 3 kids 7 5 and 2 We are thankful for you guys!

John Rosemond is an excellent Christian parenting resource. He has several books. Also, thank you so much for all you do. Your videos have been truly helpful to me as a mother. God bless your ministry.

So I read the book, and I’m struggling. Really on board with what he says about discipline, until I read that he believes in cry it out sleep training at 6 weeks old. And then I think “if I reject that as being developmentally inappropriate , who’s to say that swatting a toddler isn’t also developmentally inappropriate?” I feel like I was on board and then suddenly everything was cast into this dark confusion.

I felt the same way reading this book! Sleep training and blanket training are a no for me- these are very very new, Western concepts.
@sarahw72442 күн бұрын
Compare it against Scripture, the ultimate authority. There's definitely evidence for corporal punishment in scripture. Also, there's a lot of areas Scripture doesn't directly address, like, how to get your kid to sleep :) I personally did the Ferber method once they were old enough and it worked for our family. My mother did the same for me after she was struggling going a year with highly interrupted sleep. Some people can handle being up a lot in the night, and some can't. Also, it is so so so prevalent for concepts of humanism and psychology to make their way into Christian parenting advice. So be highly aware of what you have been told for so long is "developmentally appropriate". I didn't do blanket training though.

The best parenting book after the Bible? How can you cultivate a good relationship with a child by swatting them? Here is an amazon review about the book straight from amazon “learned a good deal until closer to the end. Advising parents to swat a 9 month old!? Advising a parent to do blanket training by sitting the baby on the blanket and hitting him every time he leaves?! Dear Lord! Horrific! Advising parents to swat a toddler until he says thank you for his sippy cup?! Who came up with this because it sure wasn't Jesus. I have a 5 year old and 2 year old and never spanked them for not saying thank you. They both are so sweet about that and they surprise so many parents. There are other ways to train a child, not just using a "switch" as they would put it.”

Thanks for this comment. Sometimes I feel like they ignore damaging messages in books because they like 90% of the content. Alternatively they probably agree with swatting and blanket training? 😢

That is positively horrifying and will absolutely produce bitter children, afraid to make mistakes in front of their perfection-demanding parents. So wicked! Definitely not from the Lord. I agree with you wholly.

You absolutely can cultivate a great, loving, respectful relationship with children with swatting them. You are not giving them bruises or anything. It’s just a sting associated with disobedience. Kids learn that this behavior must be stopped. They do not become bitter unless there is no love and grace in the parents. We have amazing relationships with our children, they adore us and we adore them. We swat them for disobedience and have seen very good fruit from that. Reasoning with a toddler simply does not work. A physical sting will actually communicate to them.

I agree with all of these “errors” and have read maybe all the books the author recommended. I used to be heavy into the pearls for parenting and am one who has distanced myself from them since they were in thick with the Gothards. I agree with you that in a sense we don’t need to throw the baby out with the bath. Sounds like a good book. Why children matter by Doug Wilson is probably my favorite parenting book. It’s so simple and to the point and as you know he also has fantastic adult kids.

Hi! I love your podcast and I love all the recommendations you give, they're so helpful. Im just struggling to find good practical advice on how to raise my 18 months old son. He is our first and only child and starts to yell a lot whenever he wants something. I haven't really found clear instructions on how to react to teach him discipline at this very young age. If you have some godly books on this topic for the toddler stage I'd be very thankful. Even more if you'd do a podcast on the subject 😊 Thanks again and be blessed

Be friendly when they are young (relational, kind, warm, patient etc.) Be friends when they are teens/ adults. I wasn't friendly or respectful and it damaged our long-term relationship. I was moody , stressed, busy, and thought respect was a one way street. Basically a Martha. Respecting them doesn't mean submitting to and obeyong them. It does mean you're modeling and honor of all people of all ages. All of this may be obvious, but in the thick of things, I lost the plot.
@sabl63812 ай бұрын
Thanks for this. I have a 2 year old and a 2 month old, and I've been way too Martha on them at times -- especially the toddler. I keep praying for joyful selflessness and to remember that if a task can wait, the relationship takes precedence.

We recently moved here and are renting. It sounds like your beliefs are much like ours and we're wondering if you all can recommend a church that supports and encourages strong family?
