Jules, you do remember the part where instantaneous wound-healing magic is a thing that canonically exists in every Final Fantasy game, right? Literally not a single thing about VIII goes beyond what the franchise already did. Giant airships: The Lunar Whale in IV. Space travel: IV went all the way to the moon. Convoluted time travel: the very first title went back in time and ended by retconning itself to have never happened.

If you're talking about Phoenix Downs, they don't work on the dead. Only if they're mostly dead. So if you are bleeding out, it can raise you, but not if your heart is ripped out. (gameplay not considered relevant to this official distinction.) So squall would bave had to been found and healed before he could die from missing 1/2 his chest and the fall in order for any cannon cures to work. Some games do have magic that can bring back the dead, but I don't know if that exists in VIII.

@@Lumus14 I'm not even talking about recovering from being knocked unconscious, I'm talking about the line of spells starting with Cure, techniques that instantly heal injuries you still survive with, which is a range of things way deadlier in this franchise than getting impaled in a spot with no vital organs.

Here's a weird moment in a similar case of the last entry in this list: Monster Rancher on the Playstation's collab with Dead or Alive. Now, to fully understand this, I need to tell you how the first couple Monster Rancher games worked with obtaining monsters: You took a CD, literally any CD, be it music or game, swapped it out with the Monster Rancher game disc currently in the Playstation and it would grant you a certain monster based on some coding stuff with the disc. However, there was a unique monster you could claim via only one kind of CD: a certain Dead or Alive game. I forget which Dead or Alive game it was, be it the normal ones or the Xtreme volleyball spinoff one, but if you inserted that specific disc in instead of literally any other CD to get a monster with looks based on a certain one of the girls from that franchise. Here's the catch though: Because it's of the Pixie monster species, it will have a low lifespan before it dies, so you aren't given allot of time to enjoy having it with you. It may be a gift yes, but I'm unsure if the low lifespan because it's a Pixie was an oversight, or it's a prank by the developers of that game for inserting a rather mature game hoping to get something good. This is LITERALLY the only crossover collab Monster Rancher ever got in it, so it's utterly weird why there's a girl from another game in a game that has nothing to do with the Dead or Alive franchise normally

Okay, shame on you Jules. Final Fantasy 8, Squall did not die. The icicle was embedded in his right shoulder just below the shoulder blade. The heart is not in that same spot. It is a wound that is completely survivable. The GFs you already have and a witch summoning ice from thin air and throwing it at Squall with her mind aren't fantastical? Disc 1 is basically an exceptionally long prologue.
