Honorable mention for borderlands 3. Vaughn makes a comment about the length of time between bl2 and bl3, and the players being cool with it. During a side mission in the holy broadcast center where you have to save his lieutenant from a digital torture machine. Vaughn mentions during his time with Hyperion, he learned people used these devices to "make digital worlds that people ended up living in for 7 years and stuff."

Snake's infinite ammo became a little bit of a running gag since in the Ape Escape crossover "Mesal Gear Solid: Snake Escape" the ending has the monkey you play as and Snake mention something special about their equipment and Snake points to his headband and says "infinite ammo."

Another funny one from borderlands series. In borderlands 3 they have a mission where in “play” a vr game to help someone out of vr and I forgot the exact words but they are talking about how vr lets you explore new worlds that are being made all the time then they say something about weirdo that go back to worlds that’s been around for years picking on the fact that about a year before they rereleased borderlands 2 on vr. Borderlands 2 is probably my favorite game of all time I even have claptrap tattooed. I’ve had more copies of that game than any other game. I originally got it for 360 but than I had more friends on PlayStation 3 so I got it for that, than they rereleased it so I got it for PlayStation 4 because I had the system first but I eventually got a Xbox one and the only person who really played it with me was on Xbox so I picked up my 4th copy, but then they released it again on vr and I love vr so 5th copy.

Another Crash game, Twinsanity, made fun of how one of the games hadn't sold quite as well when compared to its predecessors. Cortex is confronted by a waddle of penguins at one point and says, "These last few years have been a bit slow. Wrath of Cortex didn't do as well as we hoped…" It's honestly awesome to see the games being able to make fun of themselves. Another one is The Legend of Spyro Trilogy, where the voice of the character Sparx is one of two characters to be recast through all three games. David Spade voiced him in A New Beginning, Billy West voiced him in The Eternal Night, and Wayne Brady voiced him in Dawn of the Dragon. When you first encounter Sparx after the first major battles and boss fight in Dawn of the Dragon, Spyro asks him if he's okay, and Sparx replies, "Oh, you know, little stiff, voice keeps changing, but I'm good."
