:) Thanks guys! We definitely try to do all those things! The hard part is being honest without whining. Haha. We are in an incredibly privileged position (especially if you contrast it with the average Cuban) so while our gripes are legitimate, that are to be taken with a grain of salt. /J

This is not a criticism of you two but what you have to remember when in Cuba is that you can't get hung up on local price vs. tourist price. Most of the stuff that we would do, like horseback riding tours, are only for tourists. Cubans make < $40 USD per month. They struggle every day to put food on the table and keep a roof over their head...they're not spending their days riding horses for fun and sightseeing. Compared to the average Cuban, every tourist who travels there is rich in comparison. The money they make from tourists is used to support their entire extended family and friends as well. If you're going to take a tour or do anything that only a tourist would do, be prepared to BARTER. A lot. If you don't they'll think you're a sucker. 😃

Hi guyssss i have been follow you for a while and i love Your videos. Is the first time i comment... the reason is just be cause i have travel to Cuba for the past 3 years maybe 2 times for year. The first time was really expensive more than i have expected, i made friends and my family and i fell in love with de people and the culture, and by being With locals each travel became less and less expensive. We inmerse in they religion Wich is another type of expirience because is sooo part of the life in Cuba, and yes for type of videos you madre it made by way out of the bugget bit this people really need the money. If you go tu Cuba you have to be prepare to deal with high prices, bargain, the food olso delicius its limited in variety, But its a place you have to visit not only to see beuty like in the "cayos" (little islands) but to meet their people. And the history of a country who has survived. Im frome mexico and a way away fan. Thaks for the effort and the quality of the videos. I adore the mexican videos.

Hi +ivonne cruz Its so great to hear from you. Your first comment:) Awesome! I really appreciate you sharing your experience and how making friends and getting to know people make a difference in the amount you spend. Its so awesome that you were able to develop these relationships. I assume that you speak Spanish which is also super helpful when traveling to Cuba. I hope that next time I visit my Spanish will be much MUCH better. Thank you so much for watching and sharing. -Ash

Hi Scott. Im actually not a fan at all of cigars but I did it for the shot and bring in Cuba with a cuban cigar. I really liked this one as well. It was such a special day of experiencing local life in a way. Cubans are hard working and so kind. I learned so much that day. -Ash

I understand Cuba was a different place before Americans were allowed in. In the past it was refreshing to see a place without Coke brand Cola or advertising of any sort. I know of two Canadians who have moved to Cuba. As far as haggling and getting ripped off I found India to be the worst experience in my travels

I went to Cuba in 2011 and as soon i got there the taxi driver ripped me off, he take us from la habana to varadero. When almost arrive to the hotel y started to telling how hard the life is from them and they only live trough tips, so i try to give him money but i didn´t have change so i told me that´s good enough. Others try to sell us habanos, rum. In habana its worst than any other place you cannot walk without getting scream at you. I always leave tips but there are a lot of people who will try to make the most from you.

I think they take advantage because they see it as a means of advancing themselves in a communist country. They are given limited resources and when they see tourist they see it as an opportunity which unfortunately sucks for us, the tourist. But keep negotiating, you can usually lower the price a ton, which you guys have been doing pretty well.

@TheWanderingWife
@TheWanderingWife 7 жыл бұрын
LifeMeetSteph, and they've been so oppressed and cut off from the world for so long, they are now seeing the new tourism as a chance to get a little bit ahead. It's not just a Cuban thing. Taking advantage of tourists is an age old thing. I think maybe because tourists are new in Cuba, they're a little less savvy about it. Tourists all over the world should always be on their toes.

It's not taking advantage. It's trying to get some more money to live. Cubans are very poor and see in tourism a source of money. It's still very cheap compared to other places such as the USA. When in Cuba, you've to be prepared not to pay in local currency. 10bucks a night or for a complete meal (appetizer, entree and dessert), it's not very expensive compared to Europe.

I can sympathize with the mixed feelings. I truly dislike being taken advantage of opportunistically like that. I think you have to know that you're setting yourself up when you go to remote places places you're at the mercy of others. The choices are don't go or go with clear expectations. It sounds like you enjoyed the experience, so just pretend you got a great deal!

@DeusExMachino
@DeusExMachino 7 жыл бұрын
@fredotob
@fredotob 7 жыл бұрын
