As you grow your chicken flock, they'll need poles to roost on. Put 2 levels (chickens have a pecking order 😁). And I advise to put straw (cut grass) over the stone floor. Something for the chickens to scratch and it'll be easier to clean out the droppings. It'll also be great for compost. 🙂

We will make a new house for them probably, they have one pole to roost on now! We will be adding a rooster to protect them against birds of prey!

Looking . Do you know what kind of shrub that is with the dark pink flowers? I’m surprised you don’t have predators there that will eat your chickens. What kind of wildlife is around there? Is there deer?

Hello, it is a purple hibiscus. We lost two chickens sadly enough, one to a hunting dog who isn't supposed to eat chickens but got on our land.. and we lost one to a predator a fox probably because our dog was inside the house already and then it took one, so now we leave the dog out when the chickens are out and we haven't had anymore problems! We have a lot of wildlife, well compared to where we lived before anyways. We have deer (small and big) wild boar, foxes, martens, badgers, etc ... 👍

@@DomaineSauvage sorry you lost your chickens. I have lost several flocks over the years to foxes, an escaped dog, a Stone Marten and we think possibly an overhead predator. I worry about free ranging them at this time of year, hungry animals feeding their young. The chickens have a great life in between times. Just a note, straw is better than hay, especially in this damp weather. Damp hay gives off fungal spores and cause respiratory issues, especially when/if raising chicks. Bon dimanche.

We only let them out when the dog is out during the winter time, we learned our lesson. We go and put them in their coop before dark now. In summertime they do it by themself but we dont trust it anymore when it starts to get dark. It is straw we give them we just say it wrong in english 😂. Ifwe go to the farmer we ask "paille" so that should be straw. The coop is very damp though hopefully i can do something about it before next winter!@@KathysFlog
