As an experienced Des Moines player, this is simply delicious to watch. A few crucial decisions I wouldn't have made there, especially versing the Thunderer, and your though process was outright superior. Not as spectacular as the 400k Ohio game? I'd say it's twice as good as any battleship games when the odds are against you both mechanically and numerically ;). Well played Potato!

Upon further inspection, I think I know why the Z-46 was not running away. My man has four kills. He must’ve been greedy and was trying to get a Kraken by killing you LMAO!

One of the best game i've ever seen, that Z-46 (althrough it was first of his team) did one mistake, and this caused the downfall of a win, and this is a thing i like in this game, a win is only a win when the game is over

I’m blown away by the graphics once again by the close up de Moines engagement. The art dept of wargaming goes so under appreciated. The details are so cool. The smoked up, broken turret with the synchronized sounds, it all looks so cool

Salem is still one of my favorite cruisers in the game, just because of its amazing dpm and super heal to make you be able to hold positions better and get yourself out of bold situations

Two things I noticed, first is the Ammo choice, against the des memes, then thunderer and NC, lots of times i would have used HE instead of AP, and true be told, i would have died hard... It is something that is worth creating an entire video about tbh. The second thing is where to aim those shots in the ship at closer ranges, I know it requires knowledge of the ammo you are using and the armor of your target but still, against that thunderer i would have tried to citadel him because of the close range but PQ focused on his upper belt, clearly he was right so... yeah, awesome game, thanks for the upload

My gameplay in Salem improved dramatically when I started using more AP. And why not, even without expert loader she reloads so fast that a mistake in shell type is easily corrected.

I don't think the 203's have the pen to reliably citadel Thunderer, even at such close range, it's a hit or miss thing, and you run the risk of getting bounces instead of pens. Aiming for the upper belt is more reliable DPM if you ask me, because you either get pens, or overpens on the superstructure if your shells go high.

Guaranteed damage on the upper belt/plaiting is generally better than the RNG of getting a cit if you're unsure about penning their belt

I also have played the Des Moines and Salem significantly. My win rate in the Des Moines squeaks right about 52% ish, but with the last dozen or so battles I've played in the Salem that's been around 71%. It's hard to describe, but I think that heal in the Salem matters much more than people give it credit for. I think a lot of 'ship reviewers' that just look at paper stats and don't actually play the ship, or play at higher tiers, really underestimate how this ship feels in game. There can definitely be a difference for how any weapon feels on paper and how it feels in battle, when a player is using the sum of the traits to maneuver and fight. Also, @potatoquality, I have gotten the impression that the player base hasn't recognized Salem for what it is yet... When I get in a good position with the DM and start engaging, the enemy team recognizes it rapidly... but with a Salem... it's almost as if they don't recognize it?

Des Moines was my baby. Then I got the Salem.... Oh boy I couldn't believe I waited so long to get her. ..... Great commentary showing thought process & how to play the ship.... BTW, nothing like being on the receiving end of no front turrets left...

Not only do many not know how to protect a win, some refuse to run even when it is pointed out. I suspect keyboard manufacturers are somehow behind this.

Those games are magical when they come along. Had a 6 kill about 200k game in an Asashio today. It came down to being behind with 5 kills, had the C cap, just took the B cap and had to find and kill an NC with about 1 minute to go. He was at the edge of B near an island. Think I got one torpedo in him, then had one torpedo reload I could use, and hit him with one more torp. They were tough shooting angles and he was moving, but he had to activate a repair due to flooding. I think he was out of heals. It came down to a gun fight, with my ship having maybe 2k hp left and the NC having maybe 1.5k hp. I was able to start a fire, and the NC died as the end of match counter was ticking off. Thought he would kill me but cut speed and he over shot. His secondaries were not enough to help. I'm a very average player around a 51% win rate, and can be very hot or cold depending on the day, or how tired I am. Also think being an older player can put you at a disavantage when being up against younger players, but I do love those sessions where I get on a hot streak!

Some people just try to win harder than they should. I think he just got greedy for a Kraken, and that was their downfall. Still, you played an INCREDIBLE game. One of the best I've seen.

The message is sinking in for at least some of the playerbase. I’ve played several games lately where my team has pushed it past the tipping point and we’re gonna win. When my guys start to chase the reds, you can tell them, “we’ve got this, play defense, don’t try to win harder.” Probably 3/4 they pay attention and pull back. The rest of the time they suicide like normal lol. I’ll take what I can get.

Given the opportunity, I always rush Petros. They don't have the turret traverse to keep up with you and it's funny as hell to point blank torp them. Plus, the plinking sound as their shells bounce off your hull is music to my ears.

Great ship ! Great game ! Great player ! I don't play much randoms but I use my Salem in COOP to farm almost every mission. It's my first T10 coal ship and it's purely great. Recommend it to every type of WoWs player.

Very well played ! Yesterday i also scored 8 kills for the first time. Carried a T7-9 match with my Musashi, 257k damage and Yamamoto activated. It was also quite close as an opponent FdG just had to run away to win, but he turned broadside and did eat a double cit salvo for 40k 20 seconds before the battle would ve ended :D

I dunno - being able to fool the aim compensation by drifting or maneuvering feels like a feature, not a bug. Plus even the best realistic fire control system can’t deal with fully evasive targets.

So the destroyer was sitting on 4 kills. Therefore, he figured he would wait for you to push and engage the Battleship and he would pickup an easy Kraken. He was being greedy and didn’t expect you to come straight at him. He may have been banking that would be out of radars also.

It’s really hard to take Halsey off my Ohio, I get Confederate in that ship very often. Watching this has made me think I’ve got a good backup if I need to change in the future 👍🏼

Ohio and Salem are both premium ships on separate class skill trees so you can use Halsey on those ships with no penalty.

No need to retrain between premium ships, and nowadays each ship type has their own separate commander skill tree, so you could use Halsey for a premium DD, BB, CV, CA/CL and have different build for each of the four!

Regrding the wonky dispersion/aim bug.... Lots of players have been commenting in various comments' sections about this and I believe it's gotten worse in recent weeks. I have noticed this myself. In the last week or so I thought my aim/play had suddenly gotten a lot worse and I was getting quite frustrated with myself and the game. Then I found out this 'bug' or whatever is a known thing and I was a little relieved, sort of, that it wasn't just me being shite all of a sudden. ;-)

I think the only reason is that he did not knew that Salem has radar, a lot people do know which ships have radars. Probably he just want to spot for the NC and thought he was safe. Also DDs usually do not live to the end of the match, so he probably did not knew how behave in the late game. P.s: I am just speculating

i can see the enemy teams chat, calling the DD and NC all kinds of names for blowing a sure win if either one of them would have just run away. we have all been on those teams that had players blow a sure win, and it's so frustrating to watch.

Sometimes it really comes down to your enemy. If they let you win, you win, lol. No need to discuss that dd, if the Thunderer comes around the corner and ram you, there is not much you can do.

One point to make here is that you say "Most people dont know how to play the late game". Well there are plenty of folks like me who do not care to have a high winrate and just want to have a good time.I would go out with the NC the way he did in a random match. Because its more fun. I wouldnt broadside you constantly givinig you an easy target, but I wouldnt care if you won or if I won. The question is why do yo ucare?

I’ve gotten the Salem but never played her…as I am a BB player by nature I forget I’m in a Cruiser - I play like a BB and get absolutely wrecked, receive messages of how I should either uninstall or start from the beginning When I explain it was just a mistake on my part, they always counter it was a mistake that I was born Bi*ch!! Gameplay criticism is one thing, attacking me via my unknown birth mother is quite another
