I feel this guide is mostly applicable to heavy cruiser as well. With the amount of overmatch in the game even heavy cruisers don't last much longer if they get caught in a bad spot open water.

light cruisers using rudder and spamming HE shooting max range on a flank is a nightmare to deal with and will deter most pushing bbs.

A key to getting better at this is to play the flank you spawn on, on any map, from any spawn point, in whatever ship you bring, top tier or bottom. Immediately running from your flank is the easiest way to throw a match before the first shot is fired. Excellent topic PQ, keep it up. o7

Excellent vid PQ As you said, open-water gunboating aboard a light cruiser is one of the hardest skills to master in this game, but can be a extremely helpful trick to have in the bag, especially for cruiser mains out there. I'm definitely saving this video as one of the most important guides i would recommend to any player wishing to improve his gameplay.

With a light cruiser no ammount of angling whill save you really, you will still die pretty fast, the most important thing imo is being in range of as few enemies as possible, playing from the flanks, not the center. I never ever thought about trying to match my concealment with other ship, really good tip, thanks !

This was really informative, thank you potato! Always have a hard time trying to hide by islands as any type of cruiser, and I generally find myself getting into these positions

I watch KZbin videos where people pull this stuff off, however the reality usually goes like this: Fighting a light cruiser as a battleship: Overpens and more overpens. Getting shot at by a battleship when you’re the light cruiser: Gets citadelled 4 times from 3 different salvos. 2 through the stern, 1 through the bow, and the last because a shell bounced off the conning tower and went down into the ship.

I'm enjoying the American Lt Cruiser Tech line. The mobility and distancing isn't fool proof but it sure can help your allied team by getting one or two enemy to fixate on your LC, as you appear to be a soft target (Look weak, deception) . Turrets facing toward the LC are not aiming at allied DDs, which can torpedo tunnel visioned opponents when allied DDs are not under pressure.

Honestly as someone who plays the worcester a lot, i run range mod because it is insane for farming bbs at ranges where they wont hit you.

The only thing i would change on your build is to switch "Focus fire training" ( or "Demolition expert" if really you value that AA skill ) to "Priority target". Very useful to know when you get ping by the red team and it's time to go dark. Otherwise great tips !

For people like PQ it is not a very useful skill, it's more of a waste of points. They are mostly aware of enemies' positioning, they know who might be shooting them and when. So it's more useful to gain some fire chance than to know for sure what you know already. But for me this skill is definitely useful and i tend to use it on some of my cruisers, especially on the squishy ones

@@RomanAmirdzhanov Yeah i agree but it's a guide , it's meant for people who aren't unicum players, and still i think it's useful to know when you get torps for exemple, or when they're giving up because you're dodging too well and you can be more aggressive, or to know at the start (before everyone is spotted once) how many red ships are on your side (since very likely CL are focus first). 1% fire chance is more a waste of points to me or AA skills especially with Russian CV around. my 21 pts CL captain's skills are : Incoming fire alert , Priority target , AR , SI , SE , CE , Radio location (very useful to chase dd or getting away from them if i need to go dark, especially with french CL) and with the last pts it depends of the ship but either Gun feeder/Grease the gear or Last stand.

I feel like austin is the best Open water light cruiser, I often prefer to play it open water actually and somehow its become my favourite ship. Especially if there are no DD's you basically become a like a super dd yourself. Between its hella trollish armor and the ability to pick short bursty fights and then drop into invisibility again, it is really quite comfortable in the open. Also I've noticed shadowing your dd's in early game as you suggested is amazing, it wins so many games by catching out a overextending dd in the beginning.

Funny that you mention that it's been aiming short... I've traditionally had pretty good aim but aiming at waterlines is rage inducing... Now that you mention that I'm wondering if I raise my aim a little bit if that will help.

that is exciting way to play light CL, for me it always ends like this, random BB smacks salvo towards me from max range, and im goooone! Priority target would be nice to have also, so if you see like 5 ships targeting you... then its time to shutdown the light and be like you are not there.

good game but I do think you made an error with the dd at the beginning and not popping radar on them especially after damaging them so much. Radar could have let your dd finish them off.

If you want to "make" yourself learn to kite fight in open waters; Pan Euro DDs. Oland is best, Oster works too, Halland not so much but you still can. For BBs and Cruisers get no closer than 9k launch torps then play a dodgy kite fight with HE out to 12+k. Burn baby Burn! All the better if they chase you.

unfortunately, the gearing smoked up? Umm hello u have 9km radar. It used to be 10... but then WG said it wasn't fair and gave it 9. Then they gave all their Russian Cruisers 12km cause russian ships are special and don't need to follow WG rules of other nations..
