@@loschrodproductions4519 You probably haven't even seen the original because that had the same relationship between Kong and Ann (sort of), AND it still had dinosaurs in it. Also in the original Ann doesn't even like him and just screams the WHOLE time, and doesn't even be grateful he saved her from the dinosaurs. And Kong liked her but Ann didn't like him so even tho she didn't, he was still willing to die for her, that is why that famous "Beauty killed the beast" line is in there This film has the best Kong and Dwan/Ann chemistry out of ALL of the King Kong movies ....Yeah you definitely haven't seen the original..... The 2005 remake is a CGI SHOT FOR SHOT remake of the original.... Hey but I do still respect your opinion

Don't take this the wrong way, but it's very rare to see someone of your age appreciate the virtues of a film like the 1976 version of King Kong, which I agree is one helluva movie. Most are caught-up in the latest (and greatest?) YA series (like Harry Potter or Divergent), Disney Star Wars, or something else of that nature. Young people today have no clue how cinema has evolved through the decades and 1) either don't realize there are silver screen diamonds in every decade or 2) are aware, but still think anything more than a few years old is passé and not worth the time investment. So, kudos to you for your obvious love and admiration of the '76 version, which often gets overshadowed by the original '33 film or the Jackson effort, like a neglected middle-child. Keep it up!

Well YOU certainly aren't afraid to go against the grain! I'll say THIS - Kongs death scene at the end is certainly allot more dramatic and emotionally powerful than it was in the 1933 original. Also, in THIS version the heroin actually warms up to Kong and loves him in return, .. . where's in the original she just keeps on being terrified of him and dreading him, never even being thankfull to him for saving her from the T rex, giant snake and pterodactyl "I don't like to look at him! He remindes me of that awful day on the island!". I think THIS one was more focused on the love story aspect where's the old one was more about the fantasy and adventure element - THAT and the time periods ( obviously ) were the prime differences..

There was going to be a another King Kong film being made in the 70s by universal. However RKO denied their agreement. Universal went ahead anyway to make their Kong remake. The film was going to be exactly like the first film, having it take place in the 30s, have the same characters, and have Dinosaurs. The film was going to start filming on January 5, 1976 and was headed for a release in the fall. There was a battle between RKO, Paramount, and Universal with the rights of Kong (like you mention in the next video after this). Universal lost the battle and they abandon their plans for their Kong remake. But then two decades later, universal tried to bring back their remake but was abandoned again because of Godzilla 1998. Then they made the film in 2005. Thumbs up on this comment if you found this interesting.

Funny fact, I used to think this movie was terrible. I saw King Kong's title on a TV channel, and get excited. Only to find it was Kong 76. After a while, the film grew on me, and to me surpassed the original. I think in a way it's even better. A solid 10/10. Give it a watch, people. It's a beautiful film.

I always found myself in my dreams in a huge building trying to hide from King Kong while he was searching me out. Probably hence the Dwan (Jessica Lange) scene of him finding her in that one bar / building. Anyways, I still love this movie. Nice to see somebody else does too!

This is the Kong I saw in the theater when I was very young and it will always hold a place in my heart. It is so decidedly different from the original ‘33 film. I can’t believe it came out 43 years after the original Kong and it’s now been 44 years since its release! The original will always be my favorite of all the Kongs. It’s not only the best Kong movie but also just a GREAT action adventure film. But I tell you, there’s something about the ‘76 remake that is very special indeed. I really liked the modern take on the story and I remember falling in love with the gorgeous Jessica Lange. She really has sympathy (and even a little affection) for Kong, something we never felt from Fay Wray. The overall acting was top notch from everyone in the film, the effects were fantastic for the time (with an extra special shout out to Rick Baker’s wonderfully expressive Kong suit), and the score and cinematography were amazing. The scene where Dwan is offered up to Kong is one of the most memorable ever, imho...that tight shot of Kong’s face and glistening eyes as he’s crashing through the jungle with that amazing musical score. The film does lag at times and there are NO dinosaurs (which really disappointed me as a kid). But, the snake battle is very effective and chilling and actually somehow works better in this spin on the Kong tale. I don’t think 70s era movie dinosaurs would have worked that well, anyhow. The ending atop the WTC is brutal, bloody and hard to watch but your heart truly breaks for the big guy. Kong ‘76 was probably my favorite version when I first saw it as a child but now it’s a solid second, behind the original.

@thedys70 I know there was some really good dialogue aboard the ship returning with Kong. Dwan says something to the effect of , “There’s a curse on all of us”, to which Fred Wilson tells Jack that he’s tired of him trying to “confuse this girl’s mind”. You really start to feel the weight of what they did. It’s as though they have all taken part in doing something truly unforgivable by taking King off that island.

I've loved this movie for nearly 40 years now, and always have considered it the best version (despite some of the bad effects). It never bothered me that there was only one dino-battle on Skull Island (a snake-bout, actually) because it made the film less fantasy-like and more believable, not to mention better paced. A good example of less-is-more. The wall-smashing sequence holds up to this day. Barry's score is wonderful. While I'm usually opposed to tweaking past films ("Exorcist 2000," anyone?), I wouldn't mind seeing a contemporary refresh of some of the visual effects, especially Dwan's fall into the oil tank and the climactic WTC shoot-down.

Man, 76s King Kong is my favorite, i love that silly smile of Kong and his face... that beautiful and realistic face.... If you stop to analyze, in the film of 33, Kong was TOTALLY wild and brutal, but in the film of 76, at least in my view, he became a beautiful (in physical appearance) and charismatic gorilla, today he is an important icon of pop culture and the scene at Empire State is part of world folklore, too bad that in the film of 76 the scene is at the World Trade Center ... And now his death ... I don't know about you, but in all 3 films (Son of Kong doesn't count), Kong's death in the 76 film is the most brutal scene of all 3 films !!!! With blood everywhere, the cries of Dwan begging the snipers to stop shooting and them shooting Kong, not even giving him a chance to defend himself, this is unbelievably heartbreaking. And when Kong falls from the World Trade Center, we can see three people taking pictures of his corpse and Dwan crying beside him, and deep in Kong's heart beating slowly ... until he stops, and Kong dies ... .. Right now, a lot of people come to Dwan to take pictures of her and she finally becomes the star she always wanted to be, but it happens to her in the worst possible way. And the film ends with the credits passing, but the final scene where it shows the population around Kong’s corpse doesn’t leave the screen, and in the background, the music from the waterfall scene plays (I love that song), and that just makes it sadder, because at least with me, when I finished this movie, I wanted to go to my room and cry the rest of the day, because after I finished the movie, I felt a feeling of guilt so great that none of you can imagine , I felt guilty about what had happened to Kong, kind of a remorse mixed with guilt. '' Ah, but it's just a movie '', I know, but even so, it's horrible to think that people can really do this in real life, because the way the world is today, I really don't doubt that it can really happen, when the movie ended, I felt ashamed of being a human, I felt sorry for Kong, even though he was just a guy in a gorilla outfit, and King Kong of 2005 does the same thing to me, I feel angry at humanity, and there is still that sad and melancholic music playing in the credits, really, I like melancholic songs, my favorite singers are Billie Eillish and Melanie Martinez, I like their music style, but that is different, that moves with me, as if to make me feel guilty about the death of a 3D gorilla. '' Oh, what about the 1933 Kong? '' Nah, I don't like him very much, he's kind of ... too brutal, it seems like he wants Ann to love him at all costs, and force someone to love you. loving is kind of stupid. Edit: And speaking of King Kong in 1933, I want to make a protest against Ann Darrow from that film. In 1976's King Kong, it's not even Ann over there, it's Dwan, so let's skip this movie. In King Kong 2005, Ann is a captivating character, with a sad personality that makes you really feel sorry for her, on Skull Island, at the beginning, she didn't want to be with Kong, more after he killed the V-Rex , she wanted to stay and started to like him (this is called self-interest). In the sunset scene we see this, she really likes Kong, in the Empire State, she feels sorry for Kong and begs the snipers not to kill him, but, as the movie takes place in 1933, society was still macho as hell, so they completely ignored her, and when Kong dies, she cries. Okay, now why I DETEST Ann from the 1933 movie, simple! She is a dick with Kong, she is a dick with Jack and JUST YELL AT THIS FILM !!!! EVERYWHERE INSIDE THE ISLAND THAT SHE APPEARS TOGETHER WITH KONG SHE JUST SCREAMS !!!! And besides, she is not like Dwan and Ann from the 2005 film, in this film she doesn't care about Kong at all, she doesn't even care for him, she just screams and tries to escape, it annoys !!! "Ah, but it was to portray it as if Kong were the villain", I know, the monster films were like that, Gojira was like that and with King Kong it was no different, because there came the HORRIBLE films that turned them both into a joke (I'm talking about King Kong Lives and Godzilla from 1998). Which is why I hate Ann Darrow from 1933 King Kong.

Lol, couldnt agree more with you, although the original king kong was a masterpiece and a revolutionary and very innovative film for it's time, the 1933 Ann were annoying without doubt, though it wasn't blame of the actress Fray Wray, her character was writen that way.

This, by far, has the BLOODIEST climax to a King Kong film I've seen! That doesn't ruin the movie, though! If they remake this remake (say that a million times) they most likely won't use the Twin Towers again, because.... we all know why. Instead, they could use the new World Trade Center being constructed right now!

Christopher Steve That actually doesn't sound like a bad idea, to be honest. Heck; this is the film that introduced me to Kong when I was young, I've always had a strong attachment to it since then (like BigJackFilms here), but now that I look back on it from an adult perspective, there are things about it that, if I were in the director's chair, I'd do differently. One thing would be to show this version of Skull Island as being more populated with other creatures besides just Kong and the giant python. The creatures don't necessarily have to be dinosaurs, they could be a host of strange, beautiful, bizarre, and terrifying life-forms all their own, and found nowhere else on Earth (in the same vein as the cast of creatures from the recent "Kong: Skull Island"). I could go on and on, but I think I'll stop there for now.

I DON'T hate this movie. Heck, it's THE film that introduced me to King Kong. But personally, it isn't exactly on the same level as the 1933 classic and 2005 remake. For one thing (and this might sound petty), I wish this film included the dinosaurs that Kong shares Skull Island with. He's supposed to be a prehistoric ape, so therefore, I feel the dinosaurs give him more 'identity,' you know? But in actuality, that doesn't hurt my enjoyment of this movie at all. I still have true love and affection for it. 😊

Great job kid, I couldn't have said it better. Folks have poked fun at me for liking this movie, but over time I'm proud to declare that I love it, and don't give two shits about the backlash. One has to have a sensitive soul to understand and appreciate this motion picture. Plus, I can't get enough of Jessica, without a doubt among the most stunning and beautiful of women ever to grace the silver screen. Yes, I saw Kong 76 at the theatre! Great memory.

This is the first Kong film I ever saw. In 1998 I was 6 years old and lived in Inglewood CA. We went shopping at City Farm (yikes I know) and when we got home I turned on the tv just in time to watch king getting captured and knocked out by the chloroform. By the end, I was left alone in the room in time to watch the ending. It was a gigantic film to me. Since then I played King Kong with my stuffed gorilla, pretending the large wooden cabinet in our living room was the World Trade Center. In 2001 (yikes again) this became the first DVD I ever owned.

To be completely honest here, I think this film should have won the Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing. The way the film sound and looks, especially, are part of the main reasons why this film works. The way Kong and Skull Island and New York was shot was so good. Even the roar and score and the sounds of the film are very well done. 👍

The 1976 remake of king kong is the best king kong film of series in my opinion this film was very dear to heart for me as a kid. I saw the movie on tuesday nights when every it came on tv and what weird is i was born when the peters jackson's version came out but the 1976 version was the one i saw as the first. And i thought the 1976 version was the most interesting with it great practical effects and soft lines of dialogue. Plus i always thought that a rick baker's king kong was more convincing than andy serkis kong, even though andy might have been more realistic as an ape to me rick had a smooth stance as he stands up as a person which always had a cool off centered quality to it. Overall i have always loved this movie and most of times i watch it it give me nostalgic feeling of me watching it as a kid. And watching your review i has brought some nostalgia for me again and i do agreed with you it is the best king kong film. Also jack nice review.

I do think this is a good film. I probably don't like it as much as you do, but I, like you, look at it as a film that stands on its own. I too like the score, production value, and special effects for the most part, and I think the three human leads do give very good performances overall, and I also think the film did a great job with Kong and had a great cynical ending. My problems with it are that there is some occasionally stupid dialogue, I'm not entirely convinced of the romance between Jack and Dwan, and I think that there wasn't enough time to show off what other wildlife there is on the island, besides that big snake. On the latter though, I do acknowledge that the film had to focus more on the Beauty and Beast story between Kong and Dwan.

King Kong 1933 is considered by many to be the best film ever made. The creator of this video is the only person I have ever heard say this version is the best fiñm ever made. I've heard a few people say they like this version better, but still it wasn't their pick for best movie ever. I grew up hating this movie because of the influences of my much older brothers that knew the '33 version is superior.

"Umbarge"? Dude...come on. I appreciate your enthusiasm for this movie. I dug it too when I first saw it in theaters in 1976 when I was 11 years old. And i still watch it from time to time, just to reference how disappointing it is, and what could have been. I'm not a huge fan of Jackson's remake. I actually saw the 1933 version on a big screen theater here in Tacoma, WA, a couple weeks ago, That was a treat. Anyways, I don't mean to scold you, but the word you were looking for is "umbrage". LOVE THE REVIEW. Very informative. Did learn few things I did not know before. Thanks. I was there in summer 1976! My friend Bill and I were 15 years old, and we went to top of the south tower, and after coming back down, saw Kong's body between the towers, covered under a tarp (think I took a picture). When movie premiered in December 1976, I was now 16, and then saw it. BUT out of all the KONG movies, this is my favorite, nostalgia, as it is from my generation AND I WAS "THERE"! Thanks again, for reading this, and for your review. This is PAul.

@jackbuchanan9085
@jackbuchanan9085 8 жыл бұрын
+Wayne Daly The fact there is no dinosaurs, is the only thing I can really complain about the film. But I can see the studios reasons. 1. The effects would have been a nightmare to figure out. Since they wanted to use animatronics and men in suits, stop motion was the only thing to go to bring dinos to life, men in suits would have been too difficult and the budget was already high as it is. 2. They wanted to focus more on the love story between Beauty and Beast, which payed off perfectly. Universal had plans for dinosaurs in there remake at the time. Titled "The Legend Of King Kong" the dinosaurs and Kong was being debated between Stop Motion by Jim Danforth (When Dinosaurs Roamed The Earth) or men in suits by Chris Muler Jr. (The Land Unknown & The Creature From The Black Lagoon)

That's about the extent of any enjoyment or suspense I got from that movie. The remaining 2 hours and 19 minutes and 44 seconds sucked! Oh yeah and it showed the Twin Towers in the movie!
