This is how singing changed my life. I was going through a really hard time like a really hard time. I didn’t really see the meaning in life anymore, until one day I stumbled across a video of a singer singing the main theme song of my favorite anime and she sang it with so much heart and poured herself into her singing and that’s when I knew I wanted to sing too. I might not be the best singer out there, but singing gave a new direction and new meaning to my life

I grew up with narcissistic abuse, and there was no escape from it. I experienced ALL of the benefits of singing mentioned in this video, but didn’t realize that music was my lifeline until I learned it in hindsight. Producing music with my own body was so therapeutic & nurturing, and there was little to nothing to find comfort in, but singing was always there for me, and I’m so grateful for that.

Singing boosts happiness, reduces stress, improves lung function, enhances creativity and memory, builds confidence, improves posture, and strengthens the mind-body connection.

Singing also oxygenates our blood and since we heal through oxygenated blood, singing is healing. Also, our hearts and brains thrive on oxygen so diaphragmatic breathing can zap our brain cells and make us more alert and energized. Singing from the diaphragm helps to remove gunk from the depths of our lungs.

To me, singing has become part of my life, it's as easy and effortless as breathing. I wake up and a sing, I take a shower and i sing, go to the bathroom and sing, driving and i sing, go to bed and i sing, if im not allowed to sing high, i just sing in my mind. I just sing all day and that makes me happy. At first I was very shy, and I didnt want anyone to hear my voice, so i just sang in a very low voice inside my bedroom but not that often. But the talent in me is so big (somehow i know it and i can feel it) that I just couldn't keep it locked inside me anymore, so at some point I just let it out, and now I just sing and nobody can stop me now.

Singing helps me process emotions. when I am going through something I find a song that relates to it. The experience of singing and expressing the emotions is very healing to my soul.

Singing fixes me instantly. Bad mood? Worried about something important? Going through pain? I'd always sing to make it better. Then i found out that singing is a normal state for humans, and right then and there i happily embraced it as a part of life. I sing, therefore I am.

There's also the great psychological benefit when singing with others, like in a choir. We feel part of something bigger than ourselves.

I always had a rough life and still do, but what made me survive it all is listening to music and singing and being carefree, forgetting about it all even if temporarily. I also want to survive through everything in hopes my childhood dream of being a professional singer would come true, so it's the fantasy I always resort to when I sing a song or listen to a song and sing along to it, just imagining what it would be like standing on a stage and performing it in front of an audience, under dazzling lights, in a beautiful gown, a classy hairdoe, and complimentary jewelry, having my own band or musician friends and such, and adoring fans. A bit of a narcissistic fantasy, I admit, but it makes me happy.

This was great and definitely encouraging! Thank you. Last evening I was revisiting music from my younger days and I found myself singing most every song. It was good for my heart and soul to be singing these songs that encourage my soul and my faith. It reminded me better who I am and it seems much better to just sing out, than to just go around talking to yourself!😉 hahaha😄 Yes, I believe you are right. Singing is good for your health, your heart, your mind and even your soul! Keep on doing what you do!! Thank you for the encouraging words!😀🩷🎶🩵🎵🤍

((First response, it seems... Wow...)) Well, I don't know if it really "enhances" my life, but I know that, in my case, I am one of those who seems to be way beyond any psychiatric help. So, for me, music and singing is just about the closest thing to "effective therapy" that exists. Any song I write, I channel each thought that drives it into my vocals (which I *still* have to greatly control myself, because I have actually managed to destroy one of my microphones with *just* my voice, alone. 😐😵💫 Funny enough, you were actually the last one to actually assist me in finding my voice again.

All of these are excellent points. I didn't grow up singing but have spent the past twenty four years singing out of the hymnal at church. It was difficult at first because I was completely unfamiliar with all of the songs and knew virtually nothing about how to sing. Fortunately I could sight read the notes due to having spent years in school playing an instrument, but attempting to read both notes and lyrics simultaneously was challenging. Singing certain songs with a large group of people is very spiritual and has overwhelmed me at times to the point where I am unable to sing at all. I want to learn how to improve my voice to better contribute to corporeal singing.
