personally was never confused by how Vader found out Luke was his son. To me it was obvious, that after he sensed that the Rebel pilot who destroyed the Death Star had the Force with him, and was powerful, he would become obsessed with finding out who was that pilot. During his research into Luke’s background he probably realized his full name was Skywalker. Just like his real name before he became Darth Vader, and since he was strong with the Force, he strongly suspected that that pilot was indeed his long lost son he never knew existed. But since Vader secretly always planned to eventually overthrow his master, he decided not to tell the Emperor, or anyone about what he has just found out. In the scene where the Emperor tells Vader that he has a son, and that it is Luke Skywalker, Vader has known already, but simply never brought it up until then, the Emperor probably found out the truth about Luke himself. (he likely has his own sources, or simply foresaw the truth through the Force or something) Heck, it’s even possible the Emperor was the one who told Vader about Luke being his son in the first place, prior to the events of The Empire Strikes Back. So I never understood why it was ever a question how Vader knew Luke was his son. Vader isn’t stupid. He probably found out the name of the pilot who in a way defeated and humiliated him so he can get revenge on him, then recognized they both have the same surname, and adding the whole attunedness in the Force, it was unlikely to be a mere coincidence.

It might have been the fault of Owen or Beru that Luke knew his surname. Maybe one or both of them used Anakin's rightful name when telling tales, or maybe Shmi's name was on her grave and they told Luke that was his grandmother. Therefore as Luke grew into his teens he clung to the name as an icon of the father he didn't know, so when he came to rescue a Coreworlder princess, it is automatic for him to say "I'm Luke Skywalker!". Certainly he would have been insistent enough about the name that Biggs and their friends knew Luke considered himself a Skywalker. Which, on that thought, I am reminded of Tattooine Slave Culture fanon. There was an enterprising writer only a few years ago that wrote a really good fanfic series about Vader being a double agent, and a Tumblr blog expounding on the slave culture in the fic series that has given rise to a whole fanon theme that writers will toss in to expand on both Anakin and Luke's backgrounds. In it, names like Skywalker, Darklighter and Whitesun are slave stock surnames, with at least the original slave culture writer's story holding that Beru was granddaughter to a freed slave and raised Luke in knowing the slave culture, particularly knowing the recipes and family traditions she learned from Shmi, so Luke would have the true Skywalker heritage (one of which is recipes for a spiced tea that varies from family to family). At leats between the like of Luke and Biggs, there would be a shared understanding of being the freeborn sons of slave families, and maybe Beru told Luke his father had been a freed slave, and probably likewise about his grandmother, so Luke clung to the Skywalker name because it says a lot about him being freeborn. So maybe Luke was initially "Luke Lars", but he got told stories about his father and insisted he was Luke Skywalker instead.

I believe the fact Vader was Anakin was a secret known by very few people. Aside from Obi-Wan, Yoda, Ashoka, and Bail Organa, everybody else was led to believe Anakin died in battle against Vader. If Owen snd Beru were allowed to believe that as well, they may not have felt there was a reason to change Luke's name. Also at the time Luke was left in their care, Tatooine was not under the control of the Empire. Leia, on the other hand, was adopted by someone who was aware Anakin became Vader, and understood the need to change her last name.

That's not actually what happened to Darth Vader after the Battle of Yavin. That comic is non-canon. He was adrift and was retrieved by a shuttle sent by his Star Destroyer, the Devastator.

Even without the comics, we really don’t need an expansion on where Vader went after the Battle of Yavin. Researched will point out that the TIE Advanced x1 unlike a TIE Fighter has hyperdrive (and shields; just something else a TIE Fighter doesn’t have); so clearly without the comics, a simple explanation is Vader jumped to an Imperial base, or Coruscant . . . Edit: The correct answer to how the Rebels learned of the second Death Star is “Play X-Wing Alliance with Ace Azzameen” :3

Don't forget, Han Solo did NOT shoot Vader's TIE fighter. He only shot the guy on Vader's right. The other TIE Fighter pilot then panicked and crashed into Vader's TIE fighter. The only thing that saved Luke's life was that moment of panic.

The Rebels would have spread the story of the Death Star's destruction across the galaxy, including the name of the pilot responsible for it. Vader already knew he was strong in the Force. Given they have the same surname it really wouldn't be difficult for him to figure it out.

Vader's ship had hyperdrive. He just zoomed back to the fleet. How did the rebels know about the 2nd Death Star? It's made pretty clear in RotJ that Palpatine has been leaking intelligence to draw the fleet to him. Why did this need further explanation?

Skywalker could be a common name. Maybe it's like Smith, or Jones. A traditional name of descendents of space pilots. Maybe there are a dozen other Skywalkers on Tattooine of similar age, and Vader did not know that his son was named Luke. Leia, on the other hand, being raised by Senators and not just a couple of farmers, needed extra protection from being found. Luke was just a farmboy, and would not have drawn attention. As far as we know, Owen and Beru may have been Obi-wan's family who Anakin knew little about. Luke could have been just one of a dozen farmboys of similar age named Skywalker on Tattooine, and Anakin had no way of knowing that his son was named Luke. Only when Luke joined the Rebel Alliance and was shown to be strong in the force would he have stood out. One more thing: a few of the newer movies are very good. But I consider only the six movies made by Lucas himself to be canon.
@spcglider Жыл бұрын
The Emperor himself claims that he let the Rebels know about DS2. Remember "Its A Trap!"??? Always take the expanded materials with a big grain of salt. For me, if the movies contradict the extra stuff, the movies ALWAYS dictate what is canon. Whether you like it or not.

He engaged his hyperdrive to fly to the next Imperial base? Or he waited 10 minutes for the Imperial Starfleet investigating the Death Star wreckage? Because there is only these two options, everything else makes less than zero sense. It literally makes negative sense.

Where did Vader's suit come from? Palpy finds well done Ani on Mustafar, loads him up on the shuttle, and B lines it back to Coruscant. There, medical droids perform emergency surgery on Anikan. Suddenly there's perfect prosthetics and a suit that is basically a wearable life support system.

Owen could’ve been the one to insist on Luke keeping his surname. Also, although Qi’Ra giving the rebels the intel on Death Star 2 alone isn’t enough to make up for how bad her character is, she does some other things in War of the Bounty Hunter, Crimson Reign and Hidden Empire that would solidify her as a fan favorite if more people would read the comics.

Two very possible answers to the "Skywalker" name question. First, it's possible Skywalker is a very common name, like Smith, Jones, Lee, etc. Just because someone is a Skywalker, doesn't mean he is any relation to Anakin or Smee Second possible answer; When Kenobi delivered the baby to Lars and Beru and told them the boys name, he believed Anakin was DEAD.
@cl8733 Жыл бұрын
The second answer doesn't quite cut it, though. Obi-Wan knew hiding Luke was part of the big plan of training him at some point so he could defeat the Emperor. The Emperor could be looking for any "Skywalker", some kind of alert in all databases would actually make sense, so as soon as Luke applies for the Imperial Academy (which he plans to do, as mentioned in ANH) or gets as much as a speeding ticket on an Empire-controlled world he'd set off an alarm. Further, even if it is somehow implied Obi-Wan never knew Anakin had survived past Mustafar, he learned about the existence of Darth Vader at some point, and knew he was Anakin. So he should have run to Owen and Beru ASAP and told them: "This is Luke Lars now, I don't care this sounds ridiculous!!!" Simple answer: Not even the creators knew Luke was Vader's son when they came up with the name. I can live with that and accept that it is a minor plothole not to change his name.

Why were the Medium transports at the Battle of Endor when they seemed to just sit there. The answer is more meta than cannon. it's because in the Star Wars universe we typically don't see small scale anti aircraft fire. Compare that to BSG where we see every .50 cal in a dizzying display. In the Star Wars universe we only see large caliber fire when we are a mile away from a large ship. So the medium transports were there for anti aircraft cover you just can't see it. Similar role of destroyers around carriers in the Pacific Theater.

Lucas knew the secret of Vader - he wrote the script! Actors David Prowse and Mark Hamill didn't know....... I seem to recall David Prowse's line was written / scripted as "Obi-wan is your father". That was later dubbed by James Earl Jones to "No, I am your father:" Luke's reaction would be the same either way. Only Mark was told the real truth shortly before doing the scene by Irvin Kershner, the Director.
