@erikdavidantonio53683 жыл бұрын
@@snardylarose1959 Yes, the Brazilian Navy is building 4 conventional Riachuelo submarines (which is a fraction of the larger scorpené with parts and national technologies), one is ready. But we also have a working nuclear reactor in tests, this is 100% national technologies, only the hull will get knowledge of the old Tikuna class (which we manufacture nationally with German technology transfer + that of the French Scorpené). This will give the nuclear-powered submarine SN-Álvaro Alberto, that if all goes well, the start of assembly and union of the reactor with the hull will take place between 2028 and 2030.

No astute 's probably the best attack subs
@jeffslade18923 жыл бұрын
@m n No, because it has proven itself to be so. There is a tie-in between the british BAe and american General Dynamics. Virginia is good but has older tech from the british Trafalgar class. The Seawolf overran budget, so Virginia is the cut-price version. Virginia does have more things that go bang, americans like that, but an Astute has enough to wipe out a fleet, which is probably enough. What Australia has stumped up for is an updated Astute version. Turned down the french sub at the last hurdle. If you're going to get an attack sub, get the best.
@jeffslade18923 жыл бұрын
@m n One of the reasons the aussies cancelled the french sub was cost escalation. So I doubt there is much cost differential at all. The merikan sub costs more due to the way they manage and contract building of them. The Virginia is a little less capable than the Astute, so why pay more?
@jeffslade18923 жыл бұрын
@m n The merikan subs cost more due to the way they sub-contract everything the american way. They're not all that different in size, the Astute 7000-8000 tons, the Virginia 8000-10000 tons. The merikans do like carrying more weapons than necessary. Astute has more torpedo tubes because RN has a tradition of loading bananas into them when setting sail.

One reason why the Australians went with UK/US subs is not having to to cut open the hull to refuel every 10 years and weld it back (French Barracuda). UK/US subs need no refuelling for the lifetime of the boat.
@heuhen3 жыл бұрын
Fals on so many levels... The French submarine Australia was going to have, was not a nuclear powered submarine, it was a Diesel Electric submarine, just like the current Australian submarines, only difference is the French one, was to have a AIP-engine (Air independent propulsion). the UK/US Submarine deal, is an Nuclear submarin, it will have a nuclear reactor. Yes the nuclear reactor last the length of the expected life span of an submarin (in USA), but some countries keep running them for several years after, by just updating them. Mostly due to government forget how long it take to get new submarines, when you order some. So if Australia end up running them longer then they envisioned (after US standards, some all those numbers come from, USA have after all a continues building program) they have to refuel...
@PIERRELAURENTVANDERPLANCKE3 жыл бұрын
Not the reason of the cancellation. If Australia wanted nuclear subs, perhaps it was a solution to use the French system - but what's about proliferation in this case? Australia cancelled by convenance because the government preferred to be protected by Washington and obtain a politic guaranty, rather to be obliged to build an independant sub force and to pay for. Why not. But remember Australia is unable to produce the sort of uranium made in USA the UK/US subs need. So, it means perhaps Autralia will lease some foreign submarines, but the country will have no more australian boats (or if a big work begins now: perhaps later, in 2050?).

Try looking at the bigger picture. China is now threatening everyone. French boats were going to cost a huge amount (way more than UK/US nuclear). The diesel subs do not have the range. They needed a Nuclear sub. But, the barracuda just is not up to it (refuellin problems). So what to do, hence AUKUS. But, there is a LOT more to it. By AUS now building/maintaining their own boats, they will have the capability to have US/UK subs parked in Australia. This is just MASSIVE. There are lots of other benfits not related to the subs as well.

@@KangoVYou do not know exactly what you do mean... if China "is now (only ?) threatening everyone" as you pretend to consider why do Australian forces need a so big range for their subs in order to defence themselves? Anyway the choice of Camberra is no more to have some australian diesel-electric boats (designed from the Barracuda base but not Barracudas and made in Australia) but to host at home both UK and US subs. No contract was signed about a building "made in Australia" of any sort of nuclear subs. Not yet ? or Never ? Clearly, nobody can imagine that the US will give the technology to Aussies. US just need some harbors to attack if necessary some targets in southern part of China sea and will give a guarantee to Australia due to this deal. Another point: France did not ever talk with Australia about selling some Barracuda nuclear subs. But if it was the case, as you are suggesting (but untruly) when you compare Barracuda to UK and US submarines: say "ten years for a refueling, damn ! It's so short !" is just a ridiculous reason to choose heavier and so complicated but less furtive boats.

@@PIERRELAURENTVANDERPLANCKE Australis realised that the diesel subs were no longer an option, so needed a Nulear sub. The Franch sub just does not cut it.

What a waste of time, you missed the newest and most sophisticated attack submarine in the world off the list, the BRITISH ASTUTE , it's like doing a video on luxury cars and missing Rolls Royce off how can anyone take you seriously?🙈

The Astute Class has been in service since 2010. It is not new anymore compared to the list.

@@thebuzz4108 Then Virginia class, shouldnt be on the list, since that class have been in productions since 2000....and the US Navy is already on block 4.... so there must be something wrong with the submarin since they need so many variants. They have already done block 1, block 2, block 3 and now block 4 and they have just started on block 5!.... There are several Version of the Astute class, 2007 is the block 1, RN is currently on Block 2 now, where the last one was just launched a few weeks ago.... So if Virginia class can be on the list with Block 4 then Astute class can be on the list with block 2... since it is a more modern submarine then Virginia class... that still use the old style submarine design, while Astute are using the new hull designe that even to a decree deflect sonar, in the same way a Stealth aircraft do... Just look at Norway's next submarine "attack submarin", the design have come out, in it is build to deflect sonar even more.... US navy submarines, are so yesterday. but what they are good at is there sensors and having equipment running silent... just look at those Chinese submarines, if they want to be silent, they have to shut down everything... including pumps, oh wait reactor needs cooling. Or Russian submarines, silent the first few years, but after some of there Equipment starting to get a bit "used", they start to get noisy... and they appears to not ave it in there Budget to replace noisy equipment, just try to fix it, something that never works, it only work for so long!

@m n US have to upgrade a 20 year old design, that in reality is and late 80's design, being upgraded 4 times to try to make it relevant and they are planning on a 5 version... yeah. And they still use an old hull design. While we in Europa are building submarines, that can deflect active sonars + being so silent that passive sonars can't hear us, we basically take stealth technology underwater.
