Might be fun if you guys do 60 seconds so you can watch the crazy distracting stuff because some of it is really great. If something crazy happens then just pause at the end to get your full 30 in for the word and math. Just an idea.

No she’s just really good at maths and when you’re that good you just know if it can or can’t be done as there’s only so many ways to get close to the number

@@bigmushypealad8530 Speaking as someone who's also really good at maths, and who's written a countdown numbers game calculator, I disagree. Unless she's using some countdown theorem I'm not aware of. The vast majority of numbers have a solution, many solutions in fact. It's very odd she said this with extreme confidence, without either apriori knowledge, or some shortcut rule to prove none exists. Given she didn't elaborate beyond that statement, leads me to believe she has the aid of a computer program.

I guess what I'm saying is, the search space is too big to arrive at that conclusion with that amount of confidence in 30 seconds. Either she's employing some neat heuristic, or she recognises this category of exception, from previous study and categorisation of all impossible solutions or she has live access to computing power

⁠@@morganganot to be too rude but I highly doubt you have comparable math skills to her. She has also said that before and been wrong (with an audience member picking up on it) so when she says its not possible, she means she can’t figure it out which usually means its not possible.

@@cahan557 I'm not a practicing arithmetician, although I do have a 1st class degree from a rival university in Mathematics and Computer Science. I'm struck by just how confident she was. I wouldn't dare assert the negative unless I had exhausted all possibilities. To say it can't be done with that much confidence has got to come from more than just staring at the problem for 30 seconds. I've also seen her say "I haven't got it yet, carry on, ill come back to you..." She somehow knows for sure this combination is not possible, and I believe that's either study of all impossible combinations or computer aid.
