I hope Thadius ends up a cowardly/friendly super mutant and joins the party to round out the Wizard of Oz analogy. Maximus as the Tin Man, the Goul as the Scarecrow, Lucy as Dorothy, and super mutant Thadius as the cowardly lion. Lucy even found Maximus stuck in place like the Tin Woodsman. If New Vegas is like the emerald city next season, then Mr. House would be like the Wizard if he is alive.

In the birthday scene, one of the dads calls Coop a "pinko" , a cold war era slur for a communist sympathizer; which to me suggests he tried to blow the whistle and was discredited as being communist leaning like some of his film star friends

I think it was more just using the slur for someone who just doesn’t toe the line/disagrees with you. Coop’s called this after turning down the Dad’s request for doing the famous thumb’s up pose, and we hear later in one of the last episodes that communist has become a slur for someone who is disagreeable, not because they are actually a commie. Which very much brings vibes of the 50s Red Scare where some people were labeled commie just for being weird/different and it was a great way to get rid of someone or make ‘em shut up

Couple of things I noticed: Barb was the head of marketing, the CMO (hence being in charge of advertising). Also, Coop implies his career is already dead. He comments that Codsworth is the only of his invites who shows up to the party at his house because he’s been shunned by Hollywood for doing the Vault-TEC commercials.

When Cooper has his "I bet that outfit makes y'all feel like a big man" moment, he's loading ammo into his gun that's different from the ammo he uses against Maximus. The key difference between those two scenes is that he wasn't expecting Maximus to show up. After encountering Maximus in power armour, he needed to be prepared to potentially face more armoured BoS.

My theory is that the snake oil salesman had gotten a hold of a Vault Tec "miracle cure". Cooper is seen to be smoking constantly in the flashbacks. In the present, whenever he waits too long to take his medicine, he's shown with a pretty significant smoker's cough, the kind that is often used to foreshadow lung cancer in TV/movies. Maybe he got sick and was duped into being a test subject, just like when he wore the first generation power armor in Alaska. Speaking of the power armor, I think he doesn't shoot Max in the chest immediately because the first thing he sees Max do is use his own body to shield Lucy, which, given what we'd seen already by that point, doesn't seem like typical behavior for a Knight of the BoS. I think Cooper picked up on this and Max's clumsy use of the armor and, correctly, guessed that he was just some dumb kid playing hero. I think he saw a younger, pre-war version of himself and took a little pity.

I like that idea and it's a good one, unfortunately the cure thing is simply to stop them going feral, but your theory is nice and could be spin into it somehow, like how people are puzzled over how Walters ghoul isn't feral yet, maybe his was induced by said cure?

Yeah, the coughing thing seems to be bundled into the "ghoul needs his drugs" explanation, but your theory a to why his withdrawal type symptoms resemble a smoker's cough is very interesting. I like it. As for the Snake Oil Salesman, I'm not sure. I believe, there must be more than 1 way to become a ghoul. We see the "magic cure" way, I hope to see that character more in season 2 as well, and the radiation way. I'm not sure if Cooper would fall under just radiation, both, or some third way. But I haven't dug that deep into Fallout lore...yet, lol.

I think a good explanation for why Vault-Tec may have been caught unprepared when the bombs dropped is that as a corporate entity, they didn't actually have their finger on the button, they were merely acting as provocateurs, and that's not an exact science. So yes, they wanted war to happen, but they did it by putting provocative events into motion, not by actually launching the missiles, which they didn't directly control. They just pushed a little too hard and The Enemy reacted faster than they expected.

In one of the enclave scenes. there is a figure under a sheet transported on a gurney, and you only get to see the hand, pretty sure that was a super mutant.

i think what was implied between hank and moldaver was that because the previous overseer had died, someone else from the vault had stepped up. hank had kind of a weird reaction to her, and he wouldnt have been able to do anything about it because he couldnt risk leaking the secret of vault 31

In his mind she might have only been recently defrosted and he's having a "You look familiar... but where do I know you from" reaction. Did they bump into each other at the Vault-Tec Christmas party in 2076, or did they bump into each other in Shady Sands? He can't quite figure it out at first.

Regarding Lucy's mother being kept alive (so to speak) by Moldaver as a ghoul, I felt there was clear subtext implied that she basically couldn't let Lucy's mother die until she restored power back to Shady Sands. Like Moldaver understands her soul is dead, yet can't bare to kill her body until their dream of Shady Sands has been restored. Or at least the promise of it. That, and the whole "look what your father did to your mother" thing.

Moldaver's last words were "we did it, Rose", so I'm sure they were close. As to why she would let her raiders attack Lucy, I think she's just an asshole who thinks her friend's daughter is acceptable collateral damage for capturing Hank to get the cold fusion code. Also FEV might play a big role next season. In the current canon, China attacked the US because the US wouldn't stop making FEV. So Vault-Tec might have figuratively "dropped the bomb" by leaking information about FEV production to China to provoke a war.

Iirc in the games the peace talks actually break down, leading to the bombs. In the show all we have seen is the peace talks going well, and Vault Tec starting to talk about wanting the bombs to drop. I think you’re correct, I think Vault Tec are going to mess with the peace talks in some way.

And I think it's great that the character of Cooper Howard was written in such a way that he isn't a pacifist because he always was, but because of everything he witnessed in the war. In my opinion he wants his movies to have that not violent ending because he wants people, and especially kids like his daughter, too see that violence isn't always the only way to solve problems. He wants to deliver people that world in his movies because they sure as heck ain't gonna get it in the real world.

Plot twist: the experiment in that vault is it has the ability to scan the inhabitants' brains to determine all the movies and shows they always wanted to watch pre-war. The vault then engineers situations where all of those pieces of media are spoiled for the dweller, and their slow decent in to madness is tracked. Eventually all dwellers fall in to despair as no new media is being created and everything they might have been interested in is now ruined.

The Cabots are part of a part of a subsection of Fallout lore that is so out in left field that I'd be shocked if the show ever tackles. Down in the deepest depths of the Fallout Iceberg, down below even the Zetans, there's all this weird stuff about ancient civilizations and Lovecraftian entities. Best case scenario I could see for that would be having a character raving about mad conspiracy theories without any confirmation.

I think that's the one mike was referencing that he said he'd need to look up, iirc its the one that gives you like +16000 rads or maybe (-16000), i forget - I remember finding some but never doing anything with it & mostly just forgetting about it until I stumbled on it on a wiki some time later. I think it's more likely to be either ghoulification or FEV though, we don't see a supermutant per se but I think in EP2 the scientist sees a big mutant hand slip out from a cover on a gurney. Also to me, that vault of scientists that the Vault-tec advertisment that Cooper did the advert alongside, that were also shown in a recording near the end, to me it sounded like they were barring the door from super mutants - i seem to recall large sounding / thundering bangs on the door.

If this theory turns out to be true, it may be a tip of the hat to the KZbin series Nuka Break. Their ghoul's origin was that he signed up for the vault before getting married. The guards wouldn't let his wife in bc she wasn't registered. This ended up being only half the reason that that ghoul didn't get in the vault. The potential Easter egg tie being Amazon's ghoul & wife signed up for the vault before having their kid so he gave up his spot for their daughter.

So it is explained in the show why he doesn't question her as a vault overseer. He says that he was sorry to hear that the previous overseer died when their crops were blighted. So she is a random vault dweller that has taken over after the last overseers unexpectedly died. Possibly they didn't have anyone on deck to take over immediately.

We do find out that the entire population of vault 32 died about two years pre-show. I wonder if Hank knew about the deaths or just the death of the overseer. I also think Moldaver and Rose were a couple :)

Regarding cold fusion: the main reason the NCR was after the Hoover dam was for the electricity, they were also holding HELIOS One for its power generation potential. If the NCR either lost the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, or won and some other catastrophe cut them off again, cold fusion could be badly needed. It was also noted that fusion cores were very rare, implying sources of power are hard to come by.

Fusion cores also burn out when used in Power Armour, meaning the BoS almost certainly hunts them down first & remove them from the equation. If Moldaver's cold fusion device is truly infinite power, it might be able to charge all their suits & remove their operational time limits

@@ChaosDeary I would say that a single core can last for hundreds of years and still hold what is basically a full charge in most use-cases, yes. But Power Armor is just so intensive (and perhaps inefficient due to the technology being developed during a heated war where it was needed yesterday and damn the expense) of a use-case that it burns through them. The cores running out may or may not have ever been explicitly stated in lore, but then, fusion cores as a whole didn't exist in Fallout lore until 4, so I don't think that's a good reason to assume it's a gameplay-only idea. Speaking of which, I wonder if they're going to acknowledge the differences in technology from New Vegas lore to the show's lore. I think it wasn't so much of an issue bringing the technology from 4 into the location from 1 because the first game was so long ago that not many people would point it out, but I think Fallout: New Vegas is too recent for them to be able to assume that. I think either Season 2's New Vegas needs to not have any of the technology that was introduced in 4, which would be interesting to see but would probably complicate things for the writers more than the lore-accuracy is valuable, or there should be a few lines or a side-plot that establishes that traders have brought old Pre-War tech from other regions of the US to New Vegas/are distributing them around the country, so any lore item that any of the games or the show have introduced could start popping up anywhere. Or, they could just leave it unanswered, which would be simple but disappointing.

The actress who plays Moldaver basically confirmed there was an intimate relationship between Moldaver and Rose. I am wondering how she convinced raiders to work with her, clearly she had like 4 or 5 NCR soldiers with her but the rest were just wild raiders. I also suspect the "Flame Mother" worship is some kind of Mother of Dragons-like walking out of the fire thing where she's worshiped because she somehow survived actually being in the explosion. I have no doubt she will be alive again in Season 2.

My guess is that the raiders she's working with at the beginning are also Shady Sands survivors, just ones that didn't flee to a vault or start rebuilding on the surface. So post-destruction, you get a microcosm of post-Great War, with the survivors following the same three basic paths of survival (raiders, vaultdwellers, and surface settlers).

I think a question that needs to be asked is what are the Brotherhood of Steel going to do with the Cold Fusion device? Given that their main deal is to hoard pre-war tech, I can't imagine they would just leave it to power a crumbling city. They're going to take it for themselves. I don't know what they could do with it though. I'm guessing that Maximus' story will delve into this.

A lone supermutant walks amongst the crags of the Wasteland, a shadow flits overhead. He steps out into a valley just for the deathclaw to lunge from above and kill him. While it feasts we hear a roar from behind. The Deathclaw stands to defend from the challenger, and finds a trio of further supermutants enraged at the death of their pointman. A fight ensues that results in two gutted Supermutants each locking one of the deathclaw's arms before the third Supermutant walks up and tears off the deathclaw's head, holding it up triumphantly. Fade to a flag bearing a deathclaw's head, representing the show's Super Mutant Faction, remnants of the Master, wanderers from Vault 87, and assorted victims of various unknown FEV experiments congregated in one last bid to dominate the wasteland under Mutant supremacy... I can see it now, and therefore they will not do it.

Maximus will be villain by end of S2 for S3(maybe?), conflicted by Lucy but also by the power & respect he’s accumulated in BoS. Norm will be the one to take down the Vault Tec management remnants(across all vaults, if they introduce more)

Nice theories! Do wanna nitpick about Wilzig. I don't think the West Coast Enclave would hire someone from the wasteland, considering all their plans in the original games. But then again at the same time, we don't really know much about the Enclave in the show, since supposedly they were destroyed (West Coast in 2, East in 3), with only a few remnants remaining, whilst seemingly being a powerful and functioning faction now? Gotta learn more about them in Season 2.

I wanna say it was Fallout 2 that stated New California Republic was comprised of ~700,000 citizens, even way back in 2241. Shady Sands 'only' held ~35,000 at its peak

One thing I noticed was when Lucy and Maximus walked up to the billboard saying welcome to Shady Sands, it said the "first" capital of the NCR. Maybe they have a new capital now. The NCR territory covers several states in the games, so they could have moved to a more defendable location.

Yeah, they already cast a young Robert House from that final boardroom scene between all the major US companies at the Vault-Tec HQ, so my bet is they'll either use that actor as a basis for casting an older House, have that actor play an older House, or have House be dead (probably from vague circumstances so as to not force any endings of New Vegas to be canon) and his role in the story is all from his long-game preparations.

I have two theories on the lack of super mutants. In universe, an established, large scale settlement like Shady Sands could feasibly have wiped them out in the area and they haven't had the chance to roam in since. And I think across all the games it's stated their numbers are dwindling due to having no reliable means of making more of themselves, with the protagonist's actions further destroying those means. Out of universe, purely a budget constraint, making them as a practical effect like the armours would be super expensive or just too difficult to create in suitably terrifying numbers and having those same numbers created with cgi would have used up way too much of the effects budget.

I know it's no one on the OX Teams favorite Fallout game, but in 76, a big part of the main quest was for Vault Dwellers to gain control of the Nuclear silos in West Virginia. If other Vault did that on there Reclamation Day, then Hank may have been able to call in a strike remotely. Also, notice that every Vault had a Reclamation Day, but they were all different. Vault 4 was like 50 years after the bombs, but Vault 76 was only 25 years, and most other Vaults were beyond 200 years!

I'm curious to see if they bring in any Fallout 76 lore into the show. For all we know it's a West Virginian nuke that got used on Shady Sands (assuming it was a nuke from above - which I do have some question about). I could also see some Vault-Tec employing mentioning that they're recently graduated from VTU / Morgantown. That'd be an easy thing to slip in. Right now, I think the only bit of 76 lore in the show is that the West Virginia Vaults do show up on the Big Board.

The Show Gulpers strike me as weird genetic hybrids of humans and axolotls, which makes some sense (as much as anything in Fallout makes sense) because axolotls are used in medical research and Vault 4 was experimenting on human genetics in radioactive environments. Might have used axolotls in those experiments. This does make them quite different from the gulpers in Far Harbor and Appalachia, which are just giant mutant hellbenders without any obvious human components in the mix.

My biggest questions: Despite Shady Sands being nuked, the NCR was big enough that they have many towns, farms, a full on military, a President, a General, etc. Surely the capital of the NCR being gone doesn't mean the NCR is just gone now? They should still be pretty big. So will we get a bigger NCR presence in season 2? I'd love to see NCR Veteran Rangers. Todd Howard said he didn't plan on making any of the endings of the games definitively canon. But if the airship from the first season really is the Prydwyn (It literally says it on the ship) then we now know that the canon ending to Fallout 4 is the BoS/Minutemen ending. But will they actually canonize an ending to New Vegas in season 2? I doubt it could be the Wild Card ending since I doubt they'll make the Courier a character in the show. I doubt it would be Caesar's Legion because then the city would be a slave city. So it's either the House ending or the NCR ending presumably? Will Vault 76 be mentioned at all I wonder? A control vault that opens only 25 years after the bombs fell. Could make an interesting way to add a character into the show who's a descendant from the vault. "Oh yeah, our reclamation day was like 200 years ago with my great grandfather. You guys still hadn't left your vault?" to Lucy. Will we see a synth? The Institute was only destroyed (If the BoS ending is canon) a decade ago. Synths should still be around and Could be cool to see one. Could the Enclave actually make a comeback? They were close to extinction as of Fallout 3's ending, yet now we see California still has an Enclave base and supposedly the upper part of the country still has active Enclave bases. Would love to see them appear in the show with the X-01 and X-02 power armor and plasma guns

I'm fairly sure the true nature of vault 76 was for the overseer to secure the automated nuclear silos in Appalachia. This would sit in line with Vault Tecs plans to 'wipe the slate clean of competition' it may also have been to see what it's currently like on the surface and how well the Vault Dwellers survive. With it being an open ended MMO it's free to set whatever outcome they want for it.

I don't think the presence of the Prydwen (assuming that wasn't a production error and it's not supposed to be named something else, as some folks online have speculated) means that the BoS ending is canonical. It just means that any ending where you destroy the Brotherhood _isn't_ canonical. And you certainly don't have to do that for the Railroad ending, if I recall correctly.

I think the power armour fault isn't used on Max because he earnestly believes the Brotherhood is doing good, and stands for justice and helping people, and the ghoul is curious as to whether it's a one off, or the Brotherhood is different now, and when he sees that they aren't, and still try to rule with fear, he chooses to exploit the weakness. It shows that his character still cares about some things, even though he tries to act like he doesn't.

In the first episode, when Lucy is leaving the vault, Norm looks down over the barrier and the vault is absolutely massive. They take the elevator up to the main vault door, and the doors for 31 and 32 are on the same level as 33. So I wanna know what’s on the other levels. Bud does mention in the meeting that they have resources stored away, so could be that. But also bombs. Probably. Also, who’s the shadowy figure up behind the glass in the meeting room?

When it comes to the lack of supermutants, I think they're mostly extinct on the west coast. After their creation in Fallout 1 by the master, their base and most of their people are destroyed. Then in fallout 2 the FEV is controlled by the Enclave, who are also destroyed. The mutants in Fallout New Vegan are all survivors of the original army and we've never seen any evidence of new FEV being discovered on the west coast. Without a way to create any more mutants their numbers will have been dwindling for over 150 years at this point. I look forward to seeing how or if these mutants have changed by their situation as an endangered species. (The reason there are still mutants on the east coast is because FEV was being experimented on in vault 87 and by the Institute.)

my personal take: a lot of people seem to be confusing vault tec's *willingness* to drop the bomb with them actually dropping them, I very much agree that what we see in the show seems to send mixed messages. worth mentioning is that given everything is meant to be based on canon, there are a *lot* of US nuclear weapons in the games that were never launched during the war; fallout 76, love or hate it, has an entire in game event built around it. I would not be surprised to find there were several plans, and lots of them fell apart

Same. Vault Tech planned to, but they dropped 20 hours early as House claims. Tons of people had the motivation and means to do it. But it could have been anyone. From some rogue element of Vault Tech, to America, a random set of terrorists, or a foreign power. After they dropped. There was bigger shit to deal with and nobody was worrying about figuring out who caused it. 200 years later, any chance to figure it out is gone.

That's an interesting idea, and it would work with the fact that 76 establishes that plenty of nuclear missile silos still have ammunition left. I don't know that there's enough to declare it canon yet, but it would be very interesting if the reason nobody was prepared for the bombs was because the nuclear explosions weren't caused by bombs. People just assume they were because that was the logical conclusion of all the political tension at the time.

My question, which sort of got part of an answer in the show, was what exactly happened in Vault 32? Like, we see the aftermath of it (the 'fallout' if you will), but we never find out what instigated it. I'm just that kind of curious person who wants to know the full story. I want to know what caused them to go crazy and kill each other. Was it that they found out what was going on in Vault 31? Or was it something else? Because that was a lot of dead bodies in the Vault. For me, it just raised more questions than it ever answered...

If you go back and rewatch, they mentioned that vault 31 are miracle makers, when shit hits the fan. So how did shit hits the fan, probably 31 causes the problem that only they can fix. If that's the case, how easy is it for 31 to kill all the plants and cut off all food supplies.

"what was your vaults experiment?" 31 was an ark for vault tech employees to play overseer. 33 residents seem super nice way beyond normal. maybe the residents of 32 are supposed to be jerks which is why they're supposed to intermingle every 3 years. test how optimistic and pessimistic populations create chaos when forced into marriages

My money is on Muldaver not being dead and simply passed out seeing as her wound isn't very different to the one Lucy suffers on her wedding day. Muldaver is likely now a prisoner of the brotherhood who will want her to replicate the cold fusion for their use. I think Vault tec didn't drop bombs, being a company geared for tunneling, they had them buried at key locations ready to detonate if the need arose, notice the lack of smoke trails in the sky or any sign of planes, also how deep the crater is at Shady sands, hinting the explosion travelled more up than out. Alternatively maybe the brotherhood were manipulated by Hank into being the ones that destroyed Shady sands which would provide a significant twist in Maximus' story as he joined the Brotherhood to hurt those who hurt him, if the reveal is that it's the brotherhood that killed his family then that would cause deep conflict within him. Lastly the snake oil sales man hints that radiation will no longer be a problem which could lean to either ghoul or super mutant, but super mutants never stop growing and will eventually become behemoths if they live long enough which implies some level of continuous cellular growth/regeneration which would explain how tanky super mutants are and how his foot is able to heal itself.

At the end of the fight scene with Cooper and Maximus you see him shoot at the chest then look a little surprised/disappointed it didn't kill him. Makes me wonder if something was cut like a line or scene that added more to why he didn't just kill him like he did the other people wearing the same armour. Maybe Titus took the armourer perk it to a stand improved it like in fallout 4 before he died.

Yeah, her dad goes from being like a sympathetic and likable character who you’re kind of worried about at the very end to just incredibly dark controlling and psychotic in a way I really did not see coming. I personally had this theory because I thought it would be an interesting twist that the brotherhood actually blew up the city Where they found maximus and where Lucy’s mom died because he kinda like worship them as heroes so I thought it would be kind of an interesting twist that no they’re not heroes. They’re actually the people who caused the explosion. But I definitely did not expect her to have just been the one to destroy the town, and you could really tell by the end of the show her has a very dark personality. You do not see a lot of, but I think they kind of tease where he drowns that guy that was after his daughter kind of sees that maybe dad’s a little more fucked up than you think he is

What does cold fusion mean? - Moldaver wanted to give it to the people. The Brotherhood of Steel now has control of her power plant with the cold fusion. Their entire thing is being the only ones who have pre-apocolypse tech. They are going to unplug the fusion core from the power plant and stick it into another set of power armor.

Would make more sense for them to use it to charge power cores for multiple power armours than just 1, they will probably leave it as it is than risk losing an infinite power supply for their armour, still gives them a tactical advantage

I'm certain the serum Maxiumus' squire gets has to be some sort of FEV and he'll become a super mutant, that's why he healed up straight away after betting hit with an arrow in the throath. Only thing about the show I have to mention is that I think it weird that they made a point to have Coop and Moldaver interact in flashback, but we didn't see them in a scene together at the battle in the finale where they were both clearly in attendance. Seems like a bit of setup for something to go unaddressed, or unaddressed so far at least. Of course, the only way to do that now is for Moldaver to make a comeback. Also, the "iPad of Mystery" looks an awful lot like a Lenovo Tab M series. Maybe an M10 Plus?

Hank said he was sorry to hear of the previous 32 overseer's passing, so I assumed the story Moldaver sent over was the 31 overseer died suddenly and there weren't any 31 people at the time to become the new one.

On the topic of the snake oil salesman and the ghoul juice, I’m pretty sure it was supposed to kill Thadius. When the foot knit backs together his face implies that he wasn’t expecting it, if Thadius is turn into a ghoul then I think it’s probably just super irradiated water or something, or if it’s FEV that means he’s come from a Vault as FEV just kills you painfully if you have any radiation mutations.

As for the whole cold fusion thing you have to remember that a whole war was fought over Hoover Dam. Electricity is definitely a concern for the people of the wasteland, and cold fusion could really shake things up I feel

One random thing I want to know is how did they clean up Vault 32 overnight? That place was absolutely destroyed, my theory is that Betty got word to Bud in Vault 31 and he unfroze all the employees to go clean Vault 32. And because of these circumstances, I need that to lead to Lucy finding and saving my favorite character Norman (Her brother)

I wondered also. I would think the unfrozen execs wouldn't be capable of doing all that in a day. No idea how else but I like to think they would be confused and asking questions. I don't think the robot overseer in 31 would be able to answer and don't think he even ever knew about what happened in 32 either. Hope they do explain.

In regards to supermutants, the Vault Dweller (Fallout 1) took down the Master’s super mutant armies. We can see Marcus in New Vegas who brought most of the super mutants to the mountains there where they could be safe (and overuse of stealth boys led to the Nightkin). The defeat of the Master would explain why supermutants are scarce in CA

You forgot to ask: How did hank get his kids out of shady's hands before he nucked it? Particularly sense this would have been while his wife was probably watching the kids since this would have been not long after their fight over her staying in shady sands rather than Coming back to the vault.

I saw a YT video where someone spotted a billboard by New Vegas, which advertised a cryo facility in Tops Casino. So maybe Moldaver was there? Side pondering, the show is meant to take place AFTER Fallout 4 and therefore after NV, so will we be dealing with the aftermath of the Mr House/Legion/NCR situation rather than seeing the NV story from the game?

When Moldava came in pretending to be vault 32's overseer, she has a brief convo with Hank about the blight vault 32 suffered, & the overseeer dying. So the implication is Moldava replaced the previous overseer because there was a load of deaths due to the blight. So maybe Hank just assumes it's a temporary situation but she will be replaced as overseer soon. Or he just doesn't know who all the other manager types in the cryro chambers are. He does say before he's taken- 'I think I know who you are.' So the recognition kicks in eventually.

Theory No.2 After learning about Barb and Valt Tec's plan on dropping the bombs themselves he takes Janey and flees. They are at the birthday party because Cooper needs money to fund their escape. Jane made the point saying its not in line with Barb as a character to not have her daughter with her when they drop the bomb and i think it is because she doesn't know where they are. Maybe Barb was trying to find Cooper and Janey but the bombs dropped early as someone at Valt Tec pressed the big red button early (maybe an impatient counsel member). Don't know if that makes any sense but it what makes sense to me. Peace, love and respect x

I assumed that the bomb that blew up Shady Sands was in situ, iirc when Thaddeus hear Shady Sands being mentioned he ask something like "isn't there a bomb there?" and get the answer "not anymore", but I can have simply misheard that as every other mention of the bomb is that it was somehow dropped and not just exploded.

Maximus says 'the bombs fell when I was a kid,' implying it was a ballistic nuke used against Shady Sands, not an underground one. Overseer Bud also tells Norm that they're planning to 'wipe the surface clean,' implying that Vault-Tec has the means to nuke the world all over again, not just setting off some UEBs like Megaton.

@@Fafhrd42 This might just be a goof with the show, but the way Shady Sands is presented doesn't seem like a nuke blew up above it. There's a giant crater, and anything outside the crater is pretty much fine - abandoned and run-down, sure, but not vaporized like it would be if it were that close to the center of a nuclear detonation.

To the point of how Hank got a nuke, the Nuke sitting in Megaton has a Vault Tec logo on it, showing that Vault Tec had their own nukes. Coming from before the War, Hank could very well have known where Vault Tec was storing them, and once defrosted, sent out people to fetch one, ready to drop one on Shady Sands.

I'm kind of with Mike on mysterious serum. I actually think it's some FEV variant (there are a lot), but mysterious serum could fill the role too. There are several reasons to "associate" the cold fusion capsule with the skull. The courier can lose an arm and continue the mission. If the body is damaged, the head is more likely remain intact. In carrying loose body parts, one might get confused whose hand they have in a pack but never about which head it is. The "romance" between Lucy and Maximus seems to be just situational infatuation. I, too, believe that it won't last, but to me, it makes sense. Lucy's a widow now, but still absolutely innocent. Maximus, at the time, was a knight, a man-of-means, and the only decent man Lucy had met (that wasn't a cousin). Her infatuation with him is rational. To him, well, she's beautiful and competent and also decent. It's better than a lot of the canon ships in the game. Remember that Overseer MacLean is not overseer of an ordinary vault. He's the overseer of the upper-management Vault-Tec vault. He potentially has access to resources the ordinary overseer has.

I'm pretty sure I remember a scene from the show with two empty cryo pods in the secret vault, and they had labels. I thought I remembered those labels being for Cooper's family, but I'm thinking now that one of them might have been for Lucy's dad, because I think Bud tells Lucy's brother to get into his dad's pod. I'm not sure who the other empty pod would be for, then, though, because I think Lucy's mom was a normal Vault dweller, not a cryo-preserved one.
