66 years young guys, and I appreciate your videos. I’m now going to call myself a “Master Runner”! Love that! Currently training for 5K in October and November so keep the good information coming!

I use to run 5 kms in my early 40s between 17-18 minutes, I'm now 57, after 14 years of alcoholism, depression and cancer I decided to start running. After a medical I was told I have arthritis on my right hip and wow its hard because I had long covid for 3 years and find to regulate my breathing. Now I've been carrying a sort of pain for 6 months on my right leg which resonates from between my shoulder blades, through my right buttock, down my leg to my calfs. I've stretched it and massaged it but nothing seems to work. My 1 km spilts were terrible at first, 8-9 minutes, but now I've managed to get then down steadily to under 5 min today . I done my first park run last week and managed 24:05 after only 3 weeks training.

To me #4 recovery strategy to both running and strength training sessions. Heavy weight lifting causes soreness impacting running performance until the body recovers.

Biggest challenge is the pre-race warm up. Getting body ready without overdoing it. Always feel pace is good in km 1,4,5 but lose pace in km 2,3.

In my large running club, the mature runners run easy and they are consistent. The issue is that 90%+ of them do not do speed work. They don't do tempo runs, interval runs, hill repeats, or even strides.

Nice one. For me sleeping is a killer. I'm finding i need to supplement with melatonin to get a good night sleep. Two bad nights in a row, and my performance suffers. My next biggest killer is beer. Specially in the summer or around a BBQ. not so much a killer, but super difficult is to keep my carbs or sweets in check. I only have 'think about it' and my body composition bathroom scale throws a fit. 😂😂
