Costco has the OGD for $157 and I still passed. Got the WT 8 year there instead for $39.99
@Skad00shable6 күн бұрын
The OGD one surprises me seeing as how they also just released the Winter Reserve which is a toasted 6 year which is an absolute banger for the price imo (24 bucks I think). Was very surprised by it. Its definitely lower proof than I normally drink but still surprised me.

There are four mainstream Japanese Blantons. You had a Takara Black in the video. There is also a Takara Red. It’s higher proof than the regular Blantons. There is also Takara Gold and Straight From the Barrel.

Good to know! I'm sure the higher proof ones are more impressive

I ran into a "deal" today. A bottle of actual George T Stagg! Ok, so the deal to get it was I had to buy 6 bottles of something else to get it. 2 Bottles of Store Picked Makers Mark and 3 bottles of (to me unheard of) Oconnahee(Sp). So to get all this it was $530. I have been looking for a bottle of GTS for years at a decent price and after doing the numbers I figure I got the GTS at about $200 so I think I got a decent deal.

Stores like these need to be named. That’s a really scumbag way for them to operate. They would make more money by doing raffle based or putting it on the shelf as it comes in. It’s sad when they rely on some sucker with fomo and a pocket full of cash.

Everyone of us have different palates. I struggle to find the flavors that you do. All I know is some whiskies suit me better than others. And I am typically playing with the less than $75 bottles. Tonight, I am finding the Ezra Brooks 99 Rye quite enjoyable. I do enjoy your videos.

I was disappointed with grain to glass as well. Should have been much more affordable. The 7yr bib has been my go to for quite a while. Total Wine has had them at 41 bucks for about a year now. Hard to beat that if you like the 7yr bib like I do. The 70th anniversary WT is fantastic. It's the best WT product I've had other than rare breed and a sample of Russell's 13.

I got to try all 3 of the HH Grain to Glass expressions recently. The bourbon was disappointing, the wheater was good and the rye was great. I was able to pickup the wheater for $87 at Costco but they didn't have the others. I passed on the OGD 16 at $200 for 100 proof. Agreed it should have been 114 but probably would be over oaked.

Good list on the good and bad side. I'd would buy the 16 yr OGD but it was around $50. At $65 jack daniels sbbp is way better. Thanks for another great video. I appreciated what you do. Cheers 🎉🎉🎉

There is an Old Grand Dad 100 proof bottom shelfer so there is some precedence for that proof

That's true and I did think about that during editing, but forgot about it when I filmed. That said it would be such a better Whiskey at 114 proof.

I've seen one bottle of the WT 70th and it was $65. Hadn't seen the reviews yet so I passed since it was hiked up that much past the MSRP. Wished I would have grabbed it now. What I find an interesting 'coincidence' is the release of that and the WT 8 year, is a lot of chatter that regular WT 101 quality has suddenly gone down. Bourbon Junkies and SLB were both surprised how poorly it did in recent blinds with other value bottles. The HH 7yr BiB is such a great value, especially since my local Costco has cases upon cases of it. Which is shocking since it never seems to have any quantity of anything but local distilleries.

Another great video--saves me from buying some plonk and makes me aware of some good to look out for. I am sipping the WT101 70th anniversary for the second night in a row and it jut gets better. Jimmy Russell punched in at Wild Turkey in September 1954 and I punched in on Earth a month later, so it is my 70th anniversary too!

When it comes to the price / year / proof of HH Grain to Glass $110 where i'm at.... HH Bottled in Bond is just so good for the price and easy to find anwywhere. At Costco easy to find it for 40-45 bucks the value compared to HH G2G is just to good to justify a G2G purchase.

@@WhiskeyRow I'd happily take Filibuster SiB Single Estate or their BiB over the HH. Both are grain to glass and cost less. I *LOVE* Heaven Hill, but this just seemed like a shameless cash grab gimmick on their part.

if you take requests can you explain why it seems that you put forth that higher proof bourbon is more flavorful. I apologize if i am wrong. I am just not picking up increased flavors based on increased proof. I feel i am missing something and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. thank you
@WhiskeyRow5 күн бұрын
Everyone may have their own opinion on this, but the higher proof pour has a higher concentration of flavors from the barrel. A barrel proof has the highest concentration of the bourbon itself. If they proof it down to 100 proof, they are adding an additional 20%-30% by volume of water which waters down the flavor. Sometimes that can be a good thing, but more often than not it is watering down the concentration of flavors.

This reminds me of the beer craze in the late 2000s/early 2010s where everyone was chasing IBUs and high alcohol to prove they were real. Numerous times he complains about the proof but touts the flavor. We get it you like high proof and you aren't a tater. Just seems like he's trying to hard...just tell us about the bourbon
