The first day of my retirement I bagged up all my work clothes/shoes and took them to the Goodwill.

When I retired in December 2005, my daughter went through my clothes and gave my work clothes to Dress for Success and a women’s shelter near us. I was good with that. I still like to be kinda dressy casual when I’m leaving home. Jeans, tank tops, blazers, sundresses, and sweats with my granddaughters age 12-15 months. I’m happy with my closet now. I store fall/winter clothes with cedar blocks. I will do the same thing with spring/summer clothes

I feel identified after 11 months retired but working from home since 2019 and gaining weight during those years fir the stress. I m enjoing very much with your videos, advicing and tips!!!! Thank you 👍🏻🎉

I can identify with weight gain through stress plus working from home. I worked online for 21 years and for several years I worked in the middle of the night. My entire routine was crazy. It took me over a year and a half to wind down after retirement. My mother passed away and I was executor of her estate (stress, stress) and I downsized (also stressful). Now I am almost 2 years into retirement and finally finding my footing and planning fun things in life. 😊

I have been retired for a couple years now and a few months ago I went through my clothes, did some purging, and then divided the remaining pieces into 12 monthly capsule wardrobes. This is really helping me to see what I actually wear and when I wear it. At the end of each month I re-evaluate, make adjustments and I feel by the end of the year I will have a retirement wardrobe that I love and fully use.

This was helpful. I retired 6 years ago and at that time I had no casual clothes that could be seen in public. I didn't even own a pair of jeans. I watched a lot of KZbin videos and bought a whole new wardrobe, some of which are not really my style but I liked these things on other people. I still love what I had always worn which is a monochromatic base layer and a blazer but now I have a lot of denim jackets moto jackets, duster cardigans, and kimonos in addition to blazers and jeans.

Thank you, I retired from a professional career roughly 6 months ago and I’ve held onto most of my corporate wardrobe because I love that classic, tailored style. Thanks for the ideas.

When I retired I moved to the Desert. I had to introduce cotton and linen loose fitting clothing in my wardrobe. I donated half my closet to charity. I had to rethink my style as well to suit my new lifestyle.

OMG since finding you I have completely revamped my wardrobe and I didn’t even know I needed to 😱 I realised that I had a mountain of clothes that I never wore because I either didn’t have anything to wear them with, they didn’t suit me or they didn’t fit 😳. I now have a much smaller wardrobe that all mixes and matches and suits my lifestyle perfectly. I stopped working 6yrs ago to look after my husband and love smart casual comfy clothes and now thanks to you have an amazing wardrobe! It also makes going on holiday very easy as it’s now soooo easy to pack. So thanks and can’t wait for the next video xx

I can definitely relate. It seems like getting rid of so much that we don’t wear, and having less makes us feel like we really have more. I had a closet packed with so many clothes, and felt like I never had anything to wear. It was overwhelming. Now, with much less, I feel like I have more choices. It’s so much easier.

I agree. I have really taken a look at my wardrobe & I got rid of the clothes I never wore, plus those "just in case' clothes. That step helped me see that the clothes left were every color in the rainbow making it so hard to put together an outfit. Now I have 1/4 of the clothes, everything fits in the same color palette, making getting dressed & packing for a recent trip a breeze! I love going into my closet each morning to get dressed!

Great video with a lot of sage advice. I have a hard time decluttering , so I put all my clothes hangers the wrong way and then turned the right way after I wore an item. After 3 months, I was able to see what I wasn’t wearing and got rid of those pieces. Such good advice! We really need to keep the pieces we wear often. Thanks so much!

I thought I would enjoy "retirement clothes" but I miss my work clothes. I loved getting dressed up for the office. Now I live in a very casual warm weather year round place and live in skorts tshirts and sandals. It sounds great but I miss looking put together. I have a massive amount of clothes shoes accessories that just sit in my closet. Mainly because i have no where to wear them now being home so much. I find it depressing. My former fashionista self has gotten lazy in retirement. And have gained unwanted weight in the process which makes getting dressed even harder. Ugh!

Get up, get “dressed” for your day. I have developed a dressy casual style of dressing. Jeans with blazers, jackets, sandals, loafers, ankle booties, statement shoes with casual sundresses. You should dress for your lifestyle and your style.

Thank you for this video. I wish I had seen it 6 years ago when I retired. I have struggled with how to dress in this phase and encountered some of the situations you talked about (no business clothes when I needed a blazer). Since I still feel that my wardrobe is transitioning, I'll be taking pictures of my outfits, and sort my clothes to get a better idea of what I am truly wearing. I'm sure I will find these practices useful.

I am still kicking myself that I got rid of all of my blazers, silk blouses and dress pants when I retired 6 years ago as I have done nothing but attend funerals in the past year. Those clothes would have been perfect to wear to that type of occasion!

All good tips, especially "what will you be doing, and dressing for your new role"! I retired in 2016, moved to Vancouver BC, and enrolled in a BA program at Simon Fraser University... so my post-retirement wardrobe is mostly band t-shirts and jeans LOL As I worked in tech, my work wardrobe was not super formal, so I use those clothes to go out for dinners, weddings, convocation, etc.... I did bring my one suit, never wore it and donated it this year.

Thank you for the tips! I started my transition during the last years when I worked. I was wearing nice pants and sweaters and I still have those. I have been retired for two years and I am not wearing jeans all the time…I bought a blazer for funerals and I wear it on special occasions.

I have a question… What kind of detergent do you use when washing your beautiful Lilly Pulitzer every day clothes? I have a lot of things from Talbots and I think they’re quality items but after I wash them one or two times I can see wear on the T-shirts especially. I’m thinking I’m washing them wrong and I need advice! Love your channel I’ve loved it since you started it!

I’m too ocd about my closet organization to move stuff, so I turn the hanger the other way when I put it back, and add a bread tab each time I wear it. Then I get a true idea of what to toss and what I need more of.

I’m updating now but am a ways from retirement. I’ll have to try the rotation tip. I lost weight and for some reason held on to pants that are too big. I need to donate th. 🤪

I lost 65 lbs doing keto and bought all new clothes. With keto and intermittent fasting, I lost more inches than weight (body recomposition). I gained during Covid and had to buy a couple pairs of new pants and still have a potato chip problem. It's easier for me to eat none than try to control myself. I'm now doing low carb and intermittent fasting based on the book Fast Feast and Repeat by Gin Stephens. Used to wear size 2XL tops and 18W pants. Now wear small or medium tops and 14-16 pants (pear shape).

I think they are great but in your videos maybe you should just be you without the other clutter. I have already learned so much from you and all of your style advice.
