Oddly enough, my favorite memory w one of my besties is from us at school. There was a heavy storm and we were out where we could see it. She was laying down on her empty laptop bag and I was in the middle of telling her a joke when I realized she was quiet. So, I stopped and we both just sat there, enjoying the sound of rain. After a while, she said "the rain is nice." I just agreed, and even though she probably forgot about it, it was still really special to me.

This video just reinforced something my new best friend made me realize: my old BFF from middle and high school wasn't a good friend to me. I wouldn't say she was a *bad* friend per se, but I was made to realize the fact that as a friend, I was doing the best to offer all the things listed above despite suffering through abuse during most of our friendship and also dealing with crippling mental illness. I had so little energy and I'd still take the time to devote what I could to be there for her. To keep a long story short because I almost made this post into a super long vent, she had a tendency to take without giving. I recognized how her Aspergers manifested in how she thought and expressed herself. I also made sure to vocalize concerns of mine I felt like she wasn't seeing to make sure I didn't build up anger towards her for things she didn't know were upsetting me. But in the end, she just didn't treat me right. I'm very happy to say I have a new best friend now. Alongside him, my personal growth and recovery have absolutely skyrocketed at speeds I could not have accomplished without him. He brings out the best in me and actively looks out for my health and wellbeing. The only "downside" is he knows I have trouble figuring out how to express my gratitude (other than saying thank you) and won't let me do nice things for him, haha. He even told me that when I buy him food and stuff, he's been slipping the money back into my purse somewhere that I won't notice so that I can't give it back to him. I'm so thankful to have him in my life now.

I had a pretty good friend who was also my neighbour. We had been friends since kindergarten. She had horses, dogs and birds. I often wanted to spend time with her. I guess I also learned a bit about horses and what to be aware of. She broke her arm falling one of the horses. The first one reminded me of something. (Trigger warning.) Back when my family was being very toxic with me in middle school. I used to contemplate suicide a lot. They basically made me believe that I was a mistake, a complete utter failure at everything. I was this monster that somehow caused the problems in the family. And the ADHD meds I was on probably made it a lot worse. I used to be so stressed I would grind my teeth at night, my eyes sometimes twitched, and I believe I even had random heart palpatations because of them. One evening I tried to go through with it, with a kitchen knife, afterall no one would miss me. I sat there sitting against the kitchen counter, mentally saying goodbye. I thought about my best friend. He would be at my funeral. He would probably be crying. He was the one person in my life that cared enough to listen to me when I was upset and tell me that my family was clearly being abusive and that I wasn't some terrible person. Nor was I a mistake, or crazy. I couldn't bare to betray that. He was the one person in my life that actually knew that I wasn't the happy go lucky kid that everyone kinda knew. I gave up and swore that as long as he was my friend I couldn't let him down. Even if things got worse I just couldn't bare to imagine leaving him. This might sounds incredibly corny, but I'm grateful that he was my friend. And, while I hope he doesn't have to go through bad times, I hope to help him as much as he helped me. Even if he wasn't there with me at that very moment. Just knowing he was my friend saved my life.
