We have a friend and his wife who went to the dealership and got a great deal on the brand new Escort. They bought it the night before. We went over to look at it. Every plastic interior panel and a lot of the exterior panels were different tones of the same color. He noticed that in the daylight. When they took it back they were denied exchange or return as they were sold at a special price as is. You must look at your car in bright sunlight.

At the end of the month, on a month's long journey, got the best possible deal in my region on an Atlas. All other dealers I was dealing with promised to beat any written offer by 500 or at least match. On the way to my purchase all other dealers stated my deal was impossible and a lie, don't waste you time etc. The dealer I was going to was staying open for me and were 2 hours away. I get there after closing , they let me in. I check the car over ,test drive, all is as advertised, car was made in July on this year and I took delivery last Saturday, 8/29 and it is a 21 model. They are getting the car prepped while we are signing. I came out to take delivery and notice they put the dealer emblem on it. I said take it off or I am not taking delivery, they said the detailers are gone and they can't get it off. I said no deal, they got pissed. I then said free extended warranty from manufacturer (VW) as an advertising fee and I will take it. They feigned anger, threatened to take the deal away. ( not sure if they could). In my state delivery doesn't happen until I drive off the lot. This in mind I got my GF back into the car we came in ( no trade in) and started it up. They literally stared at us in disbelief for about 5 seconds until I began to back out of my parking space. I kept my cool, didn't relent or get angry and left. I told my GF they will call once I am out of sight. About 5 minutes passed and they called, saying they were calling a detail person back in and to come back to finish the deal. I told them we were done and ready to get home due to the long drive. Some strong words were stated how I owned the car now etc. ( a lie)I then explained the law and to that we were done dealing. I stated we spent more than enough time there and placing the emblem of the car was not mentioned or negotiated. I them said the emblem removal will damage the car regardless of how careful a detailer is. A few minutes of back and forth and I had the paperwork for the extended warranty emailed to me. I read it over, pulled out of the parking lot I stopped at a couple miles down the road and returned. I took delivery, later had the emblem removed by a person I trusted , and quite happy. Long story but here is the run down. I got a 21 SEL Premium Atlas, on the the Touraline blue we wanted with the titan black/grey interior. It had all the extra goodies like rubber mats, cargo cover, etc. MSRP was 51689, no rebates available. Got dealer to 43280. They tried to add freight fees etc while I was in the way but I refused. I got the doc fee to 500 from 899.00 and freight waved. I had financing but told them I would let them get some back end if they could beat it. They beat it and even with a point added to the buy rate my rate was a half basis point better than my bank (Cap one). I paid 46246 out the door but got the extended warranty free. I essentially paid 44,000. With 7k down I financed 39 and change for an almost 52k , month or so old , SEL Premium 4MOTION Atlas in the color we wanted with extended factory warranty and better financing than I could otherwise get. I may never get a deal like this again in my life.

Excellent video.I am exactly the same way if not worse.I will not buy a new car with test drive miles on it.I bought a 2019 Yukon Denali 5 months ago and it was out of state.It just came off the truck 1 day before with 8 miles on it.They sent me pictures of the odometer and the entire vehicle.I told them if there was 1 mile more on it I would not buy it when I got there.They gave me a bullshit line of we drive them a few miles to make sure everything is ok,yea right.I said no you won’t or I will go somewhere else.They listened to me and instead of them filling up my new car they gave me a $100 gas card.They all think we are clueless and all we care about is getting a new car.Not all of us.Love the channel

I totally agree......don't be driving my future car before I get it. I thought the same thing when I was told by a salesman that he was driving the car I was interested in to make trips to other dealerships. I lost interest in that car fast. Thankyou for the helpful information.I definitely have OCD like you describe especially when money is involved.

Paint swirls are another big one. Used to work at a dealership that would only hand wash to prevent this. I moved on to a Lexus dealership that didn’t and had an automatic wash, we got countless complaints about swirl scratches. The dealership would say it was no big deal....but when cars would get appraised for trade in they would use it against people to give a lower value. Great video though. Stuff people do not think about.

Especially when leasing, I go over the car with a fine tooth comb, both inside and outside. I want to make sure there's no damage, scrapes, scratches, dents of any kind that I could get dinged for when returning the lease. Plus, of course, I don't want a damaged vehicle to start my lease.

I always insist on the dealer removing all stickers/plates/etc that has the dealer's name on it. If they want it on, they can discount the car an additional $500 to compensate me for advertising for them. So far, I've never had a dealer take me up on it, they remove(or don't add) their nameplates(including license plate frames).

You seem perfectly normal to me! In the used car market, most buyers are willing to pay more for cars with no prior damages or paintwork but the sad reality is that many new cars were already repaired before being sold to the public (a guy who used to work a a Porsche dealership said back in the days, every 3rd car that came off the transport went straight to the body shop for minor repairs). That said, I wonder how the definition of "original paint" is applied in the used car market. 95%-98% of the OE paint? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

When buying a new car you must expand your territory. The last two vehicles we purchased we save 25 and some thousand OTD $s. Local dealers seem to think nobody shops around. The first vehicle, our 4 runner Trail we saved $18,000.00, needed to wait till it arrived from Japan, and had to drive 80 miles to the dealership.
@hamsterama4 жыл бұрын
Yup, my mechanic gave me the same advice. He said to go to dealerships outside the main city. He said he always goes to dealerships in rural areas, because they are easier to work with, more willing to negotiate, and less likely to play games. So, contacted a Toyota dealership located in a rural county, about 40 miles from home. This dealership was more than happy to order a manual Corolla from Japan to me. It should arrive in early March. And salesmen normally get a deservedly bad rap, but mine was great. And I'm a female and car enthusiast, and this guy didn't talk down to me. Much appreciated!

Thanks. Very helpful. I agree with all the suggestions you presented. I have been seeing journalists testing and reviewing new automobiles and after learning that we should not drive hard a new car during breaking in period I would not want to buy a new car driven by a journalist pushing the pedal to the metal and burning brake pads.

Thanks for a great video. You nailed it! I absolutely refuse to take a new car with any sort of dealer emblem, decal, or dealer's name on the rear license plate holder. I tell them way before I place the order that I absolutely WILL NOT take a car with that free advertising on it. It amazes me that this doesn't seem to bother 99% of all car buyers. Maybe they think it's a law that the dealer's name must be displayed on the auto. Such a shame!

I am REALLY OCD about the front plate not being mounted when I am considering buying a new car. I don't know why these dealers don't wait until they have a confirmed buyer before they bother drilling ugly holes into a bumper that someone else may not want. It is a REAL pain in Texas because it is required so many dealers mount the front plates right when the cars are dropped at the dealership so I simply will rule out doing business with a dealer that automatically does this.

I’m binge watching your channel. My advice- have the car cleaned and inspect it before signing. So many times cars will be dropped off in detail dirty from being on a storage lot, etc, hiding underlying scratches, dings etc. While you’re in the box signing on your car, it’s getting cleaned and these imperfections get discovered once you’ve signed on it and look it over once you take delivery. Or, maybe a stain your salesman says will come up and not to worry, you go and sign for it confident that it will. Another possibility is transport damage, which is far more common than one would imagine. Many possible scenarios. Ultimately- have your car detailed and make sure it’s to your liking before signing for it.

I have a question for anyone who can answer: If you had the option of buying a brand new 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe SEL trim for $26,000 or a 2017 Acura RDX for $23,000 which would you choose? Both are AWD. The hesitation comes from the history of Hyundai/ Kia and we know Honda’s are good cars. I looked at the car fax for the used car and it’s good to go then I looked at the recalls for Hyundai... HELP..

Hope this helps Aishia the warranty on the Acura is either 3/36 or or 4/48 so its probably up or about to be.At this point in a cars age you will probably need brakes,tires,possibly a battery soon,and regular maintenance, the Hyundai wont.In three years the Acura will be six years old and most likely need a bit more maintenace which will be more expensive,at this point you are starting to change parts flush things etc etc.Does the Hyundai have more safety features then the Acura?if so this might be worth more then anything.Price out the insurance for both cars and do the math taking all mentioned above...................www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2017/ACURA/RDX/SUV/AWD..
