I have had my new house in Gibsons since March. I have become completely dependent on being driven around, because I can’t drive, and just the 40 minute walk up down the hill gives me knee pain, which I didn’t have before. The lack of dude walks and streetlights make it impossible to learn to get used to it. It’s a very very wrong move for people who don’t drive!!!!

A car does make living on the Sunshine Coast much more convenient.

Gotta love it here but no recycling pickup and garbage pickup every two weeks is quite the adjustment - oh plus PO box

No curbside recycling was a bit of a shock to us, too. But I think Sechelt (or maybe just parts of Sechelt?) are experimenting with curbside recycling. We'd head a rumour that Gibsons was going to move to curbside recycling, too, sometime in the next couple of years but I don't know if that's wishful thinking or something that's really being planned. In the meantime, going to the recycling depot gives me a reason to leave the house! :D

Good info thanks! Just wondering about the change in driver's license. My wife and I have purchased a vacation home in BC and would like to bring a vehicle out west to leave and use while vacationing. Can we do this without changing our license from Ontario? Best regards.

Not sure! That's a good question. You'll want to ask ICBC directly. www.icbc.com/about-icbc/contact-us/Pages/default.aspx

My husband Dylan and I are looking to move out to the Sunshine Coast when the right place happens to pop up for sale. We currently reside in Ottawa, Ontario so your videos have been very, very helpful, informative, and useful! Thank you for taking the time in putting them together. Do you have any recommendations of a real estate agent for the Gibson's and/or Sechelt areas we can reach out to and to also get to know more as we continue our house search. Thank you and will perhaps be in touch again soon as we continue our journey to the Sunshine Coast. :-)

Thanks for the kind words about our videos. Glad you enjoyed them! I'll suggest a few Realtors and that maybe gives you a jumping off point. We earn our living with real estate photos/videos so I have a soft spot for our clients. 😀 With that in mind and in no particular order, here are three agents for you to start your search with... 1) Tony Browton - www.truebluerealty.ca/more-about-tony 2) Deb Mowbray - www.debmowbray.ca/aboutus/default.aspx 3) Cody Robinson - www.therobinsongroup.co/about.php All three of the above are friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. Which one is the best fit for you likely comes down to who's personality you mesh with. When hiring a Realtor (either to buy or to sell), my advice is to visit a bunch of agents' websites and build a short list of candidates based on what you find. Once you have a list of 3-5 potential agents, either call or email each agent and tell them you're interviewing Realtors before deciding which one to work with. The best agents will happily take the time to be interviewed. After speaking to a few of them, there'll (hopefully) be an agent you like and trust enough to start a working relationship with. My biggest "must have" for a Realtor is that he/she needs to be local. We're so close to Vancouver that we have a lot of city Realtors call themselves "Sunshine Coast experts." Out-of-market agents will sometimes pass you off to a new Realtor based on the Sunshine Coast and say that he/she is part of their team and that's the last you'll ever hear from them. Whoever you work with, find out how local they really are. How long have they lived on the Sunshine Coast? How long have they been a Realtor on the Sunshine Coast? How many properties did they transact last year on the Sunshine Coast? If you have any questions about the Sunshine Coast (or about its real estate agents) but you don't want to post them in the comments section, send us an email at liveonthessc[@]gmail[dot]com. We love living on the Sunshine Coast and think you will too! If you decide to make the move, please follow up with us and let us know where you land! -Paul

visit the place 1st prior to moving anywhere. Been here for awhile. I'm thinking heading out somewhere where you don't have to line up & pay for a ferry ride!

I am curious about why you chose Gibsons over Sechlet. Is there a particular reason why you choose Gibsons? What do you find different between the 2 towns? Thanks! We lived in North Van in the early 2000s and loved it! We are considering moving back to B.C., but have never been to the Sunshine Coast.

We specifically chose Gibsons because of the aquifer water. And specifically we looked for a place in either well zone 1 or zone 2 because those are the two zones that the town's water source is the aquifer. This means I get to drink unchlorinated water! (They do flush and chlorinate for a short time about once each year.) We came from Edmonton, AB where the water was very, very much chlorinated and I never liked it. If you're considering moving back to BC, I'd suggest visiting/vacationing (post pandemic) to the place you may be interested in before making the big move. But that was probably already your thought. 😀

Live on the Sunshine Coast Thanks for the reply! Yes! We'd definitely all places visit first! That is interesting about the water in Gibsons. I had no idea! I had the impression Sechlet was slightly bigger because they have a hospital. Btw we are in Ottawa.

Yes Sechelt is bigger and has the hospital. We head to Sechelt occasionally for a restaurant visit, some shopping and even the hiking or beach access in that area. Let us know if and when you'd like to meet a Realtor. When the time comes, they'll be good at hearing what's important to you and matching you to the right community.

Less restaurants to choose from. Lining up to get to Ferry to cross to Van City. Very expensive fuel costs. No malls. No decent cinemas. Not much professional offices/jobs. Cold ocean. Undeveloped rocky beaches. No Walmart, KFC. Heavy traffic to & from ferry terminals every 2.5 hours. Ok RV campground. No people.
