Dominating in the strongest and most athletic era of women's tennis is no easy feat. Nice video
@carrerau71385 ай бұрын
Serena won 15 of her 23 slams between September 2008 and January 2017. In that era giants like Ivanovic, Jankovic, Safina, Wozniacki, Azarenka, Kerber made it to #1. You have to be completely stoned to call that "the strongest era of women's tennis". Real tennis fans call that era "the clown era" for a reason.

I loved the Henin rivalry… Justine was the only player that could really consistently match or occasionally outplay Serena. And Venus was a distant second.

No, Henin had her number in 2003-07, was 5-2 H2H against her in that period. Beat her on all slam surfaces - clay, grass, hard court. And in 2000/01 Venus had her number.

Honestly the void that Serena has left in womens tennis now is WAY TOO LARGE! In fact, the calibre of womens tennis players Serena built her greatness on is really just not the same in womens tennis now :( In any given tournament, you can't rely on the top 4 women in the world making it to the semifinals and finals of a WTA or grand slam...and to consistently do it. I certainly do hope that there are some young girls on the come-up that are going to bring back the spice to women's tennis again where you have high quality matches and rivalries that make it exciting again.

Honestly .... Serena underachieved when you look at how good she was. she could have won more. .. but so be it...She is indeed the greatest.

I think it comes from the fact that she managed to have her sport career and off court career both going strong at the same time! She was never 100% into tennis, Never!
@regulusarcturus Жыл бұрын
I don’t think she underachieved. She won so many Slams after being on the brink of defeat. She could easily have lost to Clijsters in AO 2003 (down 5-1 and 2 match points), Sharapova in AO 2005 (down 3 match points), Petrova/ Peer in AO 2007 (2 points from losing in both matches), Kuznetsova in AO 2009 (2 points from losing), Dementieva in Wimbledon 2009 (saved MP), Azarenka in AO 2010 (down 6-4 4-0) and US Open 2012 (2 points from losing), Watson in Wimbledon 2015 (2 points from losing) and then the entire 2015 Roland Garros where she was down a set and a break in 4 different matches. That’s 9 Slams that she won on pure mental strength and being clutch. If things had gone the opposite way, she easily could have ended with 14-15 Slams instead of 23. So things worked out in the end. For every Slam she could have won there is a Slam that she also could have lost.
@regulusarcturus Жыл бұрын
@@chrisarmelseyibayebek4977That’s simply not true. She was fully committed to tennis in 1999-2003 and 2011-2016.
@marcusanderson545 Жыл бұрын
I’m not sure she underachieved but maybe she never became into her full potential - let’s say she didn’t get injured after Wimbledon 03… her form 02/03 was almost unplayable… We have to factor in her sister’s passing So that would have impacted her Then we look at the 2010 glass incident - again Serena was serving the best ever at Wimbledon that year and her movement and physique was almost back to 03 form. Then we have Serena post Olympia - physically never got back to full form / able to maintain it… There’s a lots of variables Serena could have broken all the records and definitely won more grand slams But she had an amazing career… but I think Serena was one the greatest athletes.. but maybe if she loved tennis she would have been something even greater than she is/ was .
