My name is Amy. Im 41 years old. I've been struggling with hearing loss all my life. I have hearing aids, but they only seem to work a little. They make noise so much louder that it hurts! The doctors have said that they have never known anyone else with such a profound hearing loss. I am going deaf. I can no longer hear things like birds, whistles, baby crying, horns, alarms, etc. The list goes on!! I read lips 100% of the time. I can no longer work because of it. Thanks to covid, I was a pharmacy technician, and we had to wear masks. So, I couldn't read anyone's lips; it took longer to help people, making them write everything down. It took a lot of time to have things accomplished while working. Another doctor has told me that surgery is possible to cure the problem, shockingly. I'm working towards this slowly. It's exciting to know, but with risks, of course. My daily life is difficult. Not only is it frustrating with the family and others, but I also. Loud noise is what's making it worse, I strongly believe. I notice my hearing getting worse by the day sometimes. It's that dramatic! The loud noises hurt so badly. My voice tends to get louder. I know this while people tell me all the time that I'm too loud. When I do wear my hearing aids it's worse, so it's hard to wear them all the time with everything being amplified. Painful. Life is hard to deal with this. I will need to learn ASL soon. I pray for strength in coping and tolerance. God has a plan for me. All is well 🙏🏻 🥲

Hi amycole, I’m 77 and have had hearing loss since I wa 50 or before. I found I couldn’t hear the birds either, and had to people over and over what they said. I bought hearing aids at Walmart (for $30). They made everything extremely loud and I could not tolerate them. Finally I went to Ear Specialist and got Hearing aids. Professional hearing aids did help tremendously. I see an Audiologist every 4 months. It’s still not perfect, but it really helps. Hope you find the help you need. 🙏🏻✝️. Blessings.

I attended a church service in Orlando FL and the decibel level was so high I thought it bordered on child abuse to expose children to it.

Each church and their audio system may be slightly different and each person may have a different sensibility to different volume levels. Hopefully there are other churches in the area or you may try some light earplugs during service to help.
