Life *IS* based upon the good and evil spectrum. Courage and cowardice are mixed in qualities as well, but the good men of the world have the love of God within them and will have the courage to do what is right. Having a good (Godly) heart is conducive to having courage, not the other way around.

I am touched by this. Even though I work as a doctor, I am troubled by the way most governments are enforcing restrictions onto its habitants and spending such huge sums of money on it while ignoring basic healthy needs such as rest, exercise (gyms were closed), nutrition (fast food places were open) and social relations. Still I'm somewhat scared to speak up about it publically and with my colleagues. Will start by having discussions about it!

As a Huge fan of Ryan Holiday and his teachings on Stoicism,I'm hoping to hear what is the view of Stoicism Regarding 1.Marriage 2.Divorce 3.Sex/LGBT My introduction to Stoicism philosophies was through him.I was looking for any word for a person who endures pain without displaying emotions and found the word Stoicism.I didn't stop there,my curiosity to know more about the philosophy lead me to his books which I bought and read three of them.I really appreciate the good impact his works has had on my life since I lost my mum and Dad and had very critical decisions to take.I needed the right models to look up to.like Seneca line that says "without a Ruler to rule it against, you cannot make crooked straight." Hasn't been easy, but I was having suicidal thoughts and would have messed up my self had I not met him.

I'm not Ryan but mì, you know , it can be a first approach . I am so sorry for what happened to you and definetly i am happy that you have found a way out , seriously , i'm happy and i hope you the best . That said , i start by the third point . Generally speaking , the majority of greek and roman philosophers considered lgbtqrstuvz something innatural and becouse of this , nonthing good , many think that in ancient rome and greece all was permitted , this is not properly true . About sex epictetus in the manual , tells to abstain from it , he doesn't specificate how much , i can naturally observe , until the marriage . And even seneca in "de breviate vitae" describes as disgusting all that people immerged in those vices . I want to be polite , so i'm not going further on the topic . Second point , divorce , definetly i don't know what stoics said about , but considering the nature of the man , and even roman laws , nah , it is not a good idea . Marcus Aurelious himself was married with just one woman . First point , marriage . God ! stoics believed in god or gods , i tell you , the real God is Jesus , but beside that , marriage was something sacred , 'couse related , as it is , to God , as life in itself , so you should approach them looking with a , "bad word" coming , teistic approach to life , whatever it includes , marriage , children , drawing , running , eating , washing teeth etc... I hope it can help , greetings :) ( i have tik tok page on wich i spread latin proverbs , it can be a good integration to stoicism , i think . . . Porfiro il Greco is the name of the page , the statue of the boxer the image of profie )

Nice shot of Alpe di Siusi in the Dolomites as the background image of the titles. For me, The Dolomites are one of the most beautiful places to walk and be surrounded by the splendour of nature. When I’m there, and in the mountains in general, I’m at peace. The walks focus you on the here and now, the rocks tell a story of ancient history, ground you, bring perspective and help to remind you that all those little stresses and worries are pretty insignificant. Taking a walk is definitely a teaching that resonates!

I got Ryan's recently book on courage on Audible but was somewhat disappointed. It leans heavily into COVID fears and it is obvious he doesn't like Trump. Ironic, because like him or not, Trump demonstrated tremendous courage standing up to the Washington power structure, the media elites and the Military Industrial Complex. Also, ironic because hating Trump and going along with COVID Fear are the “In Thing”, not the Courageous thing.

@@rogerwilliams5366 Yup. My thoughts exactly. I get it at the end of Courage is Calling why Ryan doesn't like Trump. This video and this concept has never been so important today in our current and turbulent social, economic, and political climate. I hope that "courage calls" those with power and influence today, specifically in government and big business. We are already entering a dangerous Orwellian world where many in this country must "show their papers" even though many countries such as Norway and Singapore have already done away with enforcement and are changing messaging that this is something we all must live with. Austria, seemingly reclaiming its authoritative past, is on the brink of enforcing staying at home for only some of its citizens who don't have the "proper papers." The martyrs of history (including the very recent Jewish Holocaust) were not, nor will ever be, fools. Most deplorable of all, are the risks of enforcing consent for children, who statistically are at a highly low risk and are far likelier, on average, to die or get sick from complications or heart conditions. Billions have been made, wealth has been transferred to a degree never before seen in history to the rich, and I really hope they will turn back, before this becomes their global Waterloo. Crimes against property can be forgiven, crimes against humanity cannot. Not by man. Not by the cosmos. Not by God. Although normally a blog site about sustainability, yoga, and meditation, Our team felt "the call of courage," (at likely the expense of a few of our long-time readers)and wrote about this here: laquilaactive.com/should-covid-19-vaccines-be-mandated-for-children/

I know it is hard to find examples of people who are moral through and through - even or especially in politics, religion, business. Almost every high profile person - you scratch the surface and find a rotting, maggot ridden core. My grandfather is the only man I can think of who did great works, was kind AND absolutely, irresolutely moral in his private life. No cheating, no faking, no weaknesses of character. Try to find men like that to use for ''courage'' that leads to good character. None of the men you used had that.

Courage is a virtue, but courage for extreme causes could hurt others, and expose yourself to legal consequences. Many of the people he exemplifies were in positions of considerable status, or political power, and that's likely not you. Colin Kaepernick was a poor example; a sports figure that's better respected for his athletic accomplishments, and nothing more. Imagine a society where everyone had courage to publicly express their views and take action. We'd be even more divided as a nation than we presently are. Perhaps it's better to just vote in these cases, but he's selling a book here, so I guess it's OK.

Also… The right wing media needed a way to undermine his message against police brutality and turn people against him, because if there’s one thing the powerful can’t allow, it’s people rising up as one. They need to divide us so that they can control us. Kapernick was a victim of what some call cancel culture. He stood up for what he believed in at the cost of his job. That’s courage whether you agree with his message or not.

I definitely wouldn’t put Colin Kaepernick on the same level as MLK; that’s just factually incorrect and morally wrong. Kaepernick was a guy who comes from privilege, was a starting quarterback, and then when he started to flounder he started doing something based on incorrect information (police kill blacks an alarming, biased rate). It was his actions that inspired another misinformed, inept NFL player (Marshawn Lynch) to sit for the American national anthem but stand for the Mexican national anthem; because, as you know, American police are so much worse than Mexican police, many of whom are in the pockets of the cartels and do the bidding of the cartels. None of that is heroic or principled. It’s misinformed and part of a broader movement to dismantle our society into something authoritarian. That is not courage; that is cowardness.

You're awesome. BUT........Colin Kapaernick ?? I need to hear your views on that guy. Perhaps I am missing something. He is not a victim. There is nothing to protest.

waaaay too simplistic. you're either a coward or courageous? Most of us are courageous when we need to be and safety-first when we need to be. We know it's wrong when we see 10 kids bullying one kid but that doesnt' mean we're going to jump in and take on the 10 kids.

Whole lotta simplistic, oversimplified political statements here. The comments about Kennedy and Nixon in 1960 and ignorance about the Kaepernick controversy in particular. Do some research on what actually happened. I love the Stoic points but these "out of your sphere" points are very wrong.
