I’m a solo cruiser and someone told me to join the cruise critic roll call for my cruise so I could connect with others before the cruise. Best thing I could have done. Some one in that group organized a cabin crawl. I met so many other people and got to see cabins I would never get to see otherwise. On the next cruise, I went on another cabin crawl and someone in the group opened their NCL Haven accommodation for us to see, it was so awesome. Because of the roll call groups, I’ve also done a poker run, and donned mardi gra beads to identify that I was part of a roll call group. Sure I love the ocean, the food, the entertainment but it’s the other fun or weird things I’ve done, and the wonderful people I’ve met that’s kept me cruising.

I love cruise culture! When people ask me why I cruise so much, I tell them because cruising offers so much that does not exist in regular life. I like paying for meals I don't have to (a fraction of what you'd pay on land, so why not?!). Getting pizza at 2am in my jammies after closing down the night club always tastes better. Being in the middle of the ocean with zero physical obstructions is amazingly beautiful and freeing (just blue on blue by day & velvety black sky and water by night). I've grown an extensive duck collection & am preparing 40 duckies to bring on my cruise next month. Simple joys in an alternate universe - that's cruising to me!

To the searching of ducks...we were on Princess cruise in February, found a couple of ducks quickly as we went to the buffet for lunch, saw 2 young girls (3&5??). Asked their dad if I could give the girls the ducks... they had the biggest smiles!! Saw the girls a couple days later, still carrying the ducks. I felt good inside making a couple kids smile. Great videos you do!!

My bestie had her birthday on our cruise last month. We bought her some flowers and balloons (the balloons were attached to the wall plaque where our cabin number was). Definitely made our cabin stick out, and was super easy to find because of it. We also added some fun little signs to our doors (friends had the adjoining cabin). Harmless fun, and it truly does make your cabin easier to find. Cruise ducks are just a scavenger hunt, and I think it’s fun. Haven’t found any yet though. Oh, and we all wore our cruise day shirt on embarkation day. 😁

I am part of the weirdo cruise tribe. I have sang kareoke, paid for upscale dining, hid and found ducks, worn group tees on boarding day, and decorated my door. I have always felt there was something special about being out to sea and sit on the balcony every night before bed no matter where I am or how cold it is. There is something special about feeling so small and the vast ocean and sky around us. I always thought the love of sea had to do with my Navy Vet Dad and feeling close to him now that he is gone. It is good for my soul. I also have my own weird precruise habits. I check to see if my itinerary will give me a shot at the Arora Borealis or a full moon. I have experienced both on cruises and they are the best. I have one weird kid that refuses to cruise with me. The other 4 have gone. I am working on the grands now. I have also boearded a ship just my hubby and i and left with new friends.

Tony, having cruised many times, lately I’ve doled out little rubber ducks - I don’t collect them though. I have seen MANY gleeful passengers (kids and adults) finding a duck I’ve hidden. There’s no strings attached - no need to do anything in return like buying something, or clicking on a link. I just attach a tag with our names, where we’re from (Canada) and watch quietly as people find them. I might have decorated my cruise door before too. 😂

We were loose about having to be there so it was the then famous BLT in cabin one night and a cabin crawl and show with our group of mostly solos and show and walk around ship together on last night. No matter how "simple" compared to new fancy ships...you have proved that most ships are good ships...just different and what one wants at a any given time. Remember when this ship was new and so glad she looks so nice. I want a long Princess and Royal trip for sure. PS KUDOS on your sponser. That is fantastic.

Another great video Tony! Yep I agree that those who never get to cruise are probably the weird ones because they are missing out on the best experience that life can bring. 🥰 The weirdest thing we ever saw was a very conservative looking couple who got up on karaoke night and the lady was going to sing. The man was going to do “interpretive dance”. When his wife started to sing, he threw himself onto the ground, in his suit and tie (not even formal night mind you! 😂) and started doing “the worm”, breakdancing, and all sorts of weird moves. Hubby and I almost wet ourselves laughing. 😂😂

Think of decorating your cabin door like decorating your dorm room door. There are a few, or many, years between the two, but it's kind of fun. I personally like the sign that says, "I'm spending my family's inheritance!" You may not be able to take it with you, but you can spend it before you leave! The first night, we could sit down right away at a large table with strangers or wait about half hour. We let our son decide, and he was starving so we chose the large table. It was a mostly adult cruise and my son who had just graduated from high school got so much attention, everyone asking him how he rated to get to go on this cruise, and when they found out it was a grad gift everyone started asking him about his plans for college and life... He was ecstatic! Wanted to sit with strangers every night after that!
