This is a fantastic channel for regenerative content. I would really love a booklet plan to generate better soil while running cattle and other farm animals on property. I know so many people hunt on the farms they farm. I know there are many things that will work with animals, but some that may not. Specifically what type of seed blend for cattle and deer? Graze and crip? Will these work together? Stuff like that. Thanks guys, keep it up!!

Cattle tend to eat more than their fair share unless they are moved frequently. Cattle can be used to improve soil health and wildlife habitat by using the mob grazing technique (polywire and moving daily most of the time).

This is great information. The video that I’m watching is the gentleman with 80 acres and he had a lot of rocks in his food plot. I have the same condition. Did he just broadcast the fall release on top of the rocks?

He has broadcast and used a no-till drill!

I am just starting with the release process. I planted the summer release blend in all of my plots with a no till drill. I’m sure I’m not the only one here but I had a really hard time with weeds taking over. Therefore my plots are going to require herbicide in preparation for the fall blend. What herbicides do you recommend to control broadleaf and grasses? What rate? When should I make my herbicide applications? I’d imagine the herbicide would need to be applied x amount of days before planting the fall release.

Hugh - Most folks use glyphosate (Roundup) because it's a broad spectrum herbicide - controls most grasses and broad-leafed weeds. It will be best to spray before the bulk of the weeds may seeds! glyphosate doesn't harm seeds. It can be applied and the plot planted in the same day.

Seems like a real lack of lateral cover? New growth is short, brush and shrubs got killed with fire, tops of felled trees burned up in fire. You can still see through the majority of the stand. For bedding purposes, this appears far from ideal. Nothing I see in this video, outside of the food plot (tall rye grass), appears to be quality bedding cover. What am I missing, or are we relying on the neighbors for bedding?

Cooter - without a drill, herbicide or crimper, broadcasting and timely prescribed fire to remove the past crop and prepare a seedbed. We have showed this in videos. Thanks!

I live in arid eastern Montana, so food plots are out unless they are part of normal agricultural practice. I want to improve my soil and work on water harvesting structures. It's just 20 acres of land with only a cabin/shack on it. Are there some dryland cover crops that could help? It would be great if it could eventually support sanfoin to run a couple of steers on it.

By using regenerative practices, and building healthy living soils, you will ultimately increase the soil's organic matter. On average, for every 1% organic matter increase, you also increase the soil's holding capacity for plant-available water by 1%. This equates to around 3400 gallons of water available to the plants, per acre, per 1% organic matter increase. This means more drought-tolerant soil conditions across the board. For reference, 3400 gallons in the same volume as 0.12" across an entire acre.

Tim - These principles work in eastern Montana. There are farmers there using this system. It's important to plant a good blend and not a single species.
