I was offered Ozempic by my doctor. I am a female, 53 years old, 5’7 and was 205 pounds. I have tried many diets too. While I have not hit peri menopause yet, I do worry about additional weight when I do. I said no to the Ozempic and simply eliminated almost all sugar from diet, I eat whole foods, proteins and veggies. Almost no fruit, no juice or soft drinks. Pasta, rice and potato is a rare treat. I eliminated snacking. As I work night shift, I eat one large meat during the day and a tiny meal on my lunch break at 4am. I have committed to also going to the gym at my work on my lunch break and do light weights. I do a lot of walking. In a few weeks I have lost ten pounds and I am 195 today. The journey continues.

what she say is not the whole truth. the bariatric is with the skin and a size issues because the surgery is way more agressive that any diet. the skin problem is because you lose the weight way too fast like is 500--800 calories a day for a body that needs 2200-2500(plus exercises), and the size could be the same problem cause with so low calories usually low on protein and almost no exercise(post surgery), anyone will lose a lot of muscle, and muscle is way smaller than fat, so she could easily lost 5--10 pounds of muscle more than needed in the process. another thing that is alot of bullshit is her metric and her graghs, anyone that is consuming less calories than needed to maintain your bodymass. gets in to autophagy(a lot of papers proving that already), some authophagy is good a lot of it maybe not that good(research needed but you could be destroying some cells with autophagy in excess that you have to remake it right in your next meal) autophagy do not break only old and junk cells, and if is always high they break what is easy to break(especially if in need of fast energy). and if it was all true the best way would be fasting like 36 hours than 1 big meal, than fasting again 36 hours, the big meal would take like 8-12 hours to digest , and get 24+ hours of autophagy(no ups and downs, and don't need to be testing )

I got up to 168 10 years ago (peri & menopause age 48) and started a whole plant food based, high starch diet. I did lose about 10 pounds and was able to maintain there easily (even though I moved to Mississippi)😆. However, I was stuck there and could never seem to get below 155. Less than 3 months ago I decided to try Keto so I could break my addiction to nacho chips (my cheat food) and corn tortillas so I could get into my old ski pants. What a paradigm shift! I hadn't eaten any animal products or even oil for 10 years(except what was in corn chips, or other times I would cheat on my lifestyle diet). Wow! I lost 10 lbs within a couple weeks. I platueued at 152 but learned about IF and extended fasting. That helped me break under 150 down to 147, only 2 pounds over college weight. I love the convenience of OMAD ( compared to eating 5-6 times/day) and am amazed how well I handled 24 to 63 hour fasts. Since I am used to eating lots of vegetables the shift to a mostly whole food keto has been fairly easy. I just carry canned asparagus and sardines in my car in case I can't make it though the 23 hours to OMAD

The weight you lost while on Keto was most likely water weight. I lost 20 pounds in two months, but did not lose another pound over the next 12 months. I ate twice a day, with an intermittent fast ratio of 16-8. Many days I ingested zero carbs, but never went over 30 on any given day. I felt sluggish, had bouts of sleeplessness, and never felt fully alive. There must be a better way. I've noticed the Keto priesthood is always selling something, so I generally don't follow those that do. Be well.

@@jacksquat4140 So I've had a totally different experience with keto. I've lost 66 lbs since 2021 most of it in my visceral fat area. I haven't lost 66 lbs of water. I never feel hungry anymore like I did when I ate sugars and starches. I have increased my muscle mass and at 50 I'm in the best shape of my life. I feel amazing. Cutting out sugar alone will change your body to a more normal look. Mine did after I cut sugar, and that was before I did keto. Eventually I lost 65 pounds, but I did not go on a diet the first four years. I just cut sugar, sugar substiturs, gluten and processed foods. After going on keto I lost an additional 35 or so pounds over two years. It took me longer than most people because every ten pound loss was a strong plateau, which there is a medical reason for. My body knows where it wants to be. I was nearly 300 lbs the first time and hit 280 lbs the last. Being clean keto with little crap really helped my sleep and joint pain and reduced the amount of gluten caused itching and no longer required skin/face cream-- who knew! I never tested ketones but I trust what my body tells me. Don't forget the salt!

I’m looking to get healthy now. It’s crazy the sacrifice I made. If you’re on the fence jump off and get on the keto diet I’m hoping to be able to turn this around. What you started talking about at about 36 minutes in...was me...Oh, my goodness! That is exactly how I felt when I got into a size 8. So emotional, I'm about to cry now talking about it. When I said to one of my good friends, that I have been overweight for over 25 years and my youngest child who was 21 at the time (today she is 22) had never seen me under a size 20! When I look at myself in the mirror, I still don't see a person who has fixed her life, her eating habits, her mindset, etc. I went and gained 10 pounds recently (on purpose) because I let peer pressure get to me. Where people were telling me that I looked 'too skinny'. I did, I let it get to me and put on 10 pounds (it was difficult, very difficult) because my eating habits had changed so much. I was used to fasting and getting my body into autophagy. I was used to eating a low-carb diet. I started eating more meat and eating fewer sweets when I'm just sitting at work. Anyway. What you said there just resonated with me and I felt that I had to share. I love your content!!!

What weight and height were you when everyone was saying you were too skinny if you don't mind me asking? With keto, as long as you're getting enough healthy fats in your diet, you can be thin but you won't look sickly skinny bc the fat makes you look at youthful and balanced.

It can be challenging but we cannot and will not ever change the opinions of others. You'll either be too big, or too small, now you look sick, oof you gained it back. I wish we would never comment on others body's.. So we have to be strong and know we are doing the right things for ourselves, our bodies. They will still talk but you will get stronger, then so will your response, then soon you'll stop responding altogether. P.s I've said, no, not too thin, just the right amount of healthy. You are the first Doc that is able to explain all that is happening to my body and all the failures and things that did happen in the past which no doc at all could explain into this detail than you! I listen to other docs on the carnivor/ketovore diet too but you are the best for me. I am a severe diabetic and I bought a ketone meter too and did most of the things you explained as to eating windows fasting alternate and getting to the most extreme one and not dying from it! Haha. My hba1c is down from up anywhere to 13 to about 7 now in 2,5 months!!!! I ditched Ozempic totally and I am only on 1 gluclazide now from 3 next to the Ozempic. I had Ozempic face already and I stopped because it was detrimental to my eyes. I damaged my eyes by using Ozempic which I didnt want too but I was finally convinced because I could not loose weight anymore and I had too. I am down 22.5 lbs in 2.5 months and down 2 dress sizes. I did have some stalls which went away by me just persevering changing my eating windows, fast here and there just change it frequently so my body didnt know what was coming next and didnt hold on to the weight that much. There are struggles I admit but I have gained so much good things already I am not willing to give in ever again. Thanks for educating me (us) and keep up the good work Doc! Love you for it! I thank GOD for docs like you telling the Truth on eating. Been overweight all my life I am 55 now and also have postmenopausal issues but I still can do this! THANKS!!

Thank you for the information! You saying that moving eating window earlier is benefitial has actually confirmed my current experience. My eating window now is usually 4am-12am, since i get up very early and go to bed early as well. Before the shift in my sleep schedule I ate between 12am-8pm, and the impact on the weight loss was minimal, also it was really hard mentally to abstain from sugary processed foods in the evening and therefore it impacted my sleep quality and mood, so it wasn't sustainable at all. Now it's all good - sleep is better, making healthier food choices is far more easy also!

@cherylh4688 Жыл бұрын
@@ann-mariecoombes632 Unfortunately, Ann-Marie, I haven't yet received a reply, altho' it's been a month already. But I'm guessing there really isn't a substitute, since she has said she chose sardines for their specific fat-to-protein ratio. So I am currently waiting to buy fresh or frozen sardines, when they again become available in my area. If I hear of a substitute anywhere else, however, I will save your comment and try to remember to come back here and let you know.

I am allergic to all fish and I was wondering this as well - would love a substitute!
@cherylh4688 Жыл бұрын
@@houseofthegreaterdanes2807 You know, H, I have seen several requests now for info on substitutes, but no replies yet from Dr. Boz. So I suspect she doesn't really know what to substitute, since she did say she chose sardines in oil for its ratio of protein to fat (and probably it's Omega 3s). So after reading your question, I've started wondering if one couldn't just substitute eggs, or at least egg yolks (if sensitive to the whites); add in good quality olive oil and maybe a 1/4 tsp cod liver oil (if you can tolerate it); and use that! After all, there IS already a popular carnivore diet challenge where one only eats eggs for 3 days or something. (I forget the details.) So since a can of sardines has from 18 to 22 grams of protein, it would take only 3-4 whole eggs or 6-7 yolks to equal one can. And that plus maybe 1/2 to 1 Tbsp EVOO might do the trick! For myself, I recently had a can of sardines without a histamine reaction, so I will give myself a couple more weeks of healing and then give that a try. But if I react, I will then try this egg version myself. Good luck to us both!🤗

So glad I saw this because I’ve been researching Ozempic and thinking of asking my doc about it at my next appointment. I’ve been D2 for a few years now. Making some improvements but not nearly enough imo. But I had the SAME question about HOW you can lose weight in the presence of insulin. UPDATE: My doc suggested Mounjaro instead of Ozempic and I couldn’t be happier with the results! Three weeks in and my baseline blood sugar is down significantly AND I’ve naturally lost about 5 lbs so far with no feeling of deprivation or struggle. Plus I’m sleeping straight through the night (8hrs!) and not waking up in the middle to pee due to nighttime sugar surges. 😃 I also had a two week free trial of a CGM that I inserted a few days before my first Mounjaro shot so I was able to watch in real time as my stats started improving. Even though my insurance won’t cover the CGM, I’m convinced I want to continue with the shots even if I can’t monitor the improvements. 😃😃

Not everyone is perfect and its good to support people to get back on and not just look at "their mistakes"

@@dana102083 You're right. No one is perfect. We all struggle with something and not all struggle with the same thing. Thank you for enlightening me.

That's the problem with dieting...as soon as you stop and go "normal" it all comes back plus more. I really don't know the solution. Somehow I more and more believe in psychosomatic...I am 45 y/o and now i believe it is not being ok, having stress, unresolved chronic problems, not being authentic make us fat, because of our bad coping mechanism. Also, sadness make us sit between 4 walls, sedentary...and more fat.

OMG! This video was AMAZING!!! I think you just gave me a part of my missing weight loss equation. Its so important to understand the physiology behind what my body is doing and why my weight loss has been so difficult. I've just discovered your channel and will be diving into the glucose/ketones/insulin connection. Very informative. I have turned my nose up at canned sardines, but I think I may need to put my bias aside for my own good. Thank you so much Dr. Boz!!!
