Those McGruff ads worked with me! I was walking home from school, and someone said "my mom asked him to pick me up" and I said "NO" and ran away. Turns out, someone in the school office failed to relay the message. My mom did sort of congratulate me afterward, however. Voltron was so incredibly awesome, and I guess these ads were playing at the same time the cartoon was airing, but I didn't see any of these toys for at least another year. Still, it was must-see TV in the afternoon!

Coming from the bay area, I remember some of these. I was around five years old in September at that time. And KTVU was our affiliate in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thanks for the memories.

I love the transformer commercial airing during the go-bots stressing the little sticker that proves Transformers are the "real deal".
@Aeravon8 жыл бұрын
That wasn't an attempt by hasbro to dig at the Go-bots, it was an attempt after the first year of Transformers popularity to curb counterfeit transformers streaming in from tons of companies. Original 1984 transformers just had stickers of their faction and no rub-signs. Jurassic Park toys in the 90's would do the same thing with the JP logos in their advertisements.

+Aeravon1 very interesting. Still didn't keep my go bots from feeling like bootsie-ass TF wannabes though, lol. Cy-kill was legit though.

These are from Monday, 4/15/85 (not 1984). "Challenge of the Gobots" aired at 4 PM. The 3rd Annual "American Video Awards" aired on Saturday, 4/20/85 on KTVU at 8 PM.

You just gotta love how there is a commercial for Transformers in a block of commercials for Challenge of The Go-Bots! Also, I remember that Knight Rider Big Wheel, I had one of those as a kid. Even though I had the Big Wheel and remember riding it up and down the sidewalk quite vividly, I do not recall watching the show a whole lot as a kid.

Yea exactly! Also, notice that this is a GoBots "special presentation", which Tonka probably paid out the bum for to compete with Transformers made by Hasbro/Tomy. And then the station aired that Transformer commercial which totally dissed their knockoff competitors like GoBots. Such brand drama in the 80s :D

@Boomska3168 жыл бұрын
I was wondering what that was. So did that version ever get released?
@OzzieAstaroth8 жыл бұрын
Kind of, sort of, but not really. I think they confused the other gun Transformer named Browning in Japan, for Megatron here. A toy of Browning exists, but only in Japan, and it has a different color scheme with that same head.

OJ's Cereal was a decent cereal my mom picked it up quite a few times, I recall. I do know for certain that we, as kids, made absolutely no correlation to O.J Simpson and the name of that cereal. I wonder if other kids our age did?

McGruff kind of reminds me of Lt. Columbo. Golden Girls looks like a blatant rip-off of She-Ra, but this was before She-Ra so I guess not. Robin's in real trouble if he has to rely on Aquaman to save him.

OJs-that cereal wasnt bad actually.. Fruit Bars commercial-yet another "everything about 80s fashion summed up in one ad" deal lol Amercian Video Awards-seems everybody was coming out with a music video awards show back then(i remember one of the local tv stations here had one) arent the Go-bots now canon with the Transformers universe ?
@JohnnyUtah158 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember that there were at least two to three music video awards' shows. I believe one I recall had a good amount of off-stage interviews.

Okay, a few thoughts here... -When did She-Ra come out, because Golden Girl looks like a blatant rip off. -4:17 - How nice of the Joker and Lex Luthor to take Robin hostage near water, so Aquaman would actually have something to do. 6:40- "The most perfect pizza on the planet!" Maybe back then, kid, but have you had Chuck E. Cheese lately? Also, am I the only one who preferred Showbiz to Chuck E.?
@beckigreen8 жыл бұрын
I liked showbiz pizza a million times better than chuck e cheese.
@miketroncin7498 жыл бұрын
I was the opposite- but it's prob because I went to Chuck e Cheese first, when I was in fourth grade. Also every couple months a costumed guy would come out during an assembly at school and sell Chuck-e-bux, $3 cash for $5 of tokens. I bet parents didn't appreciate that pressure to go just because their kid bought $3 in tokens

@80sCommercialVault4 жыл бұрын
I think it was just another company coming out with a MOTU-esque doll line for girls and then Mattel making their own version shortly afterward. It might have been a similar situation to what later happened with Hasbro's Jem/Mattel's Barbie and The Rockers.
