Mubuhay Gardens aka FAB MAB in North Beach as well. One could have caught a Dead Kennedy's show as early as summer of 78. Lots of bands besides the Gratefull Dead played Frisco. Take a look at the bands that played FAB MAB and later On Broadway. It was the west coast's CBGBs until 83-84.

Johnny Ramone describes his early experiences in L.A. as being very respecfull playing in 77 in clubs like the Starwood and Rainbow. London, New York, and allways well received in L.A. No need for the "British Invasion" in L.A. as there was plenty in the early punk underground.

The Rainbow is a restaurant, not a music venue. Perhaps you're thinking of The Roxy. And, yes, people in LA loved the Ramones.

most "punks" are posers.Pre1980s is where you'd find real punks.The real punks understand that its not about fashion,punk isnt about styles,it is about adressing your opinions to those who think that it is immoral to have freedom of speech "It's Not Really My Problem If They Think I'm Weird. Undermine their pompous authority, reject their moral standards, make anarchy and disorder your trademarks. Cause as much chaos and disruption as possible but dont let them take you ALIVE." Love the music but never liked the vanity in punk. The right clothes and look were sometimes more important than if you could play and what you said. You can't be a nihilistic ass kicker and fret over just how tall and orange your mohawk is and if you got the brand DMs not knockoffs. I guess it's always like that, the dirtiest hardest metal eventually took a back seat to wusses fussing with triple tier makeup cases.

There have always been those who insist on being their true selves regardless of what other people think, and then there are those who try to be like everyone else regardless of who they really are. Every good thing turns into a scene of posers and imitators sooner or later. It happened to the beats, and then to the hippies and then to the punks and then to the goths and yada yada yada. Be yourself and let someone else slap a label on it... but it's still you regardless of what they call it.

Hate livong in 2008, wished I was around in the late 70's and some of the 80's. I don't think we ever will see an music revolution as big as punk again or that other indie and underground stuff. Everything will be recycled in the end. Hate so it, but I think music on the whole will be dead around 2040-2050.

Hey, you guys goin' on early 80s New Wave, first off, from what I understood back then, there was not really a separate distinction between New Wave and Punk until the suits got involved at the big labels. It was all New Wave, under the same umbrella. And even if the distinction did come about, at least early 80s new wave pop was fucking miles better than the drudgy prog rock the preceeded it. I'd take The Knack and Missing Persons over ELO any day!

This is Iris Berry and Pleasant Gehman, you guys......they were originals on the scene before any of you clowns were zygotes, so I really wouldn't knock 'em. BTW, there were very few shops that sold punk gear back then...most of the ones that did were one of a kind places with one of a kind designs. Go ahead and dribble all over your Hot Topic "authentic" for the masses ripoffs.
@CosmicPoop
@CosmicPoop 6 ай бұрын
no, not originals at all. iris and pleasant were both just followers of an already dying cult, trying to keep it alive by railing on others like they were the innovators and minor sellers at some melrose shop of the punk scene, and it's poorly regurgitated nomenclature and regalia. There is nothing worse than seeing those two holier than thou posers, trying to tell/sell themselves and others, that they are the real deal, and everyone else is a fake. they fucking didn't even give others their proper due in interviews over the years when talking about their early shitty so called female punk bands. they left a lot of people behind with no respect for their part in the groups. it's like they think they started it all and no one else was involved in making it happen, only them. so fucking full of themselves! If they see this video, or my comment here, I wonder if they will see the error of their words and ways, and actually respond to it in a real and honest way in their old age. I bet not though, as they are still so full of themselves and think they are the pioneers of LA punk scene. everyone has a story in LA, and their story, while sometimes wild and crazy, is not the only story. lame and equally unaware of reality numbskulls have exalted these two to some kind of punk hero status, when they are just silly followers who got lucky staying in the limelight with mostly regurgitated bullshit over the years, although pleasant is quite the belly dancer over the years, and for that part of her life, I find her very attractive.
